I was referred there to take lessons with a specific instructor. When I called to set up an appointment with that music teacher, they said that my child would be evaluated first to see who they thought would be a good fit. When I pressed that I was only interested in the teacher we were referred, to they agreed to set up the appointment with that person. Their new make-up policy is VERY restrictive. I understand having something in place to respect everyone's time, however only one make-up per term IF you notify them 24hrs in advance. So if you accidentally forget one lesson, you lose the lesson. Even if the teacher is available, they will quote you their "new make-up policy". Again, I understand having something in place so that people do not take advantage. However, due to the restrictive nature of their make-up policy, I will not be returning back in the fall. read more

Best decision I have ever made coming to this studio! The amazingly talented teachers and staff, not only go out of their way for each and every student, they make you feel like family with the constant love and support they give to everyone! My daughter Faith Stack has been taking voice lessons with Shane for 4 years, and he goes above and beyond not just with lessons, but helping her grow as a person as well! He is there every step for her along the way as she continues to learn so much! Her favorite part of her week(still after 4 years) is having her voice lesson! Yay! Cornerstone Music Studios offers many various classes, and terrific teachers to accommodate any student level or age! I'm very grateful for the continuous love and support Faith and I have received from them, in and out of the studio! My two children have been attending Cornerstone Music Studios for close to five years now. As a family, we understand the multitude of benefits a musical education awards a child. My husband and I originally began music lessons for my son at age 6 to help him with his fine motor skills and focus as these areas seemed to overwhelm him on an every day basis. Music seemed to be a natural place to help him as he enjoyed music very much. It was also important to us as parents for our children to learn a lifelong skill that was practical yet fulfilling, as well as the character training that goes along with musical discipline. My son chose the guitar and my daughter the piano. We also know the investment in time, money, and perseverance a musical education takes. When we began searching for a school, there were many other options available and it was overwhelming trying to sift through all the reviews and comparing one to another. For any parent who is at that starting point as we were, I hope this review will save you much unnecessary time, money, and heartache because there is nothing worse than investing in music lessons and an instrument only for your child to lose heart and give up after a few months. Cornerstone Music Studios is, we believe, the bar in which other schools and teachers would want to aspire to. The school has expanded to two studios and is located in Millstone which is convenient to many surrounding towns like Manalapan, Monroe, Allentown, Hightstown, East Windsor, Jackson, and more. It is run by Laura Whitman, a talented musician in her own right, but most of all, one of those people that you know upon first meeting her as just a really good person who truly has you and your child's best interest at heart. She makes you feel like you're part of a family, and never part of a business. To put it plainly, it doesn't get better than Cornerstone. In my research, I found the cost at Cornerstone to be comparable to other schools, but the quality goes far beyond. You get so much more for your money. The faculty is a well selected group of musically trained individuals, most of whom are working musicians themselves. Ms. Whitman and her faculty support their students not just in private lessons, but in a rich curriculum of offerings from musical theater, to theory and composition, to summer camps, to Musikgarten for the littles, to Rock Out Loud for children with special needs, to my son's personal favorite class, rock band. There really is a large menu of offerings for all types of children to develop and nurture their own personal musical path. Another unique and really cool feature about Cornerstone is how they support the musical performance of their students. The school offers mini recital nights in intimate settings for students to get comfortable with performance, as well as Open Mic and Coffee House nights for tweens and teens to get together and perform in a peer setting, all of which nurtures the child's self-esteem and confidence as a performer. Ms. Whitman also offers many opportunities for the students to play in community outreach performances. For my son, the performance aspect made his skill and confidence skyrocket. Not only can he take a rock band class at Cornerstone, but he can rock out with his band in front of a bunch of peers and feel really good doing it. It blows me away every time to see my child up there at a performance and putting together all he's learned in a supportive and encouraging environment. What Ms. Whitman and Cornerstone do with these children is priceless. read more

I emailed Cornerstone Music Studio (CMS) inquiring about their private piano lessons and Saturday morning play theater they offer for children. I was interested in enrolling my daughter who is 5 years old. I was given a call back a couple hours later and spoke with a lady who took down my information and was told someone would be in touch. Two weeks later I still have not heard from them. Since I live so close, I decided to stop by with my daughter. Upon walking into their studio, I wasn't greeted and literally had to just stand there as people just stared at me as if I had two heads. At this point, I just approached the first person who made eye contact with me and apparently I made the right choice as this person works there. This young lady told me I had to first register my daughter then someone will contact me to set up an evaluation. 2 weeks later I have still yet to hear from them. CMS is a joke and will not be enrolling my daughter there. Moreover, every time I mentioned that my daughter was 5 years old, the people I talked with kept reminding me that she was "on the young age" as if they were trying to discourage me from enrolling her. These people obviously do not understand child development and I will stay clear away from them. read more

Both of my children have taken lessons (and continue to) at Cornerstone from piano, to voice, to guitar. My son and my daughter's musical talent just blossomed from their experience. The faculty at Cornerstone is held to a very high standard and hail from excellent music schools. Not just anyone can teach at Cornerstone. They are great mentors, teachers, and role models. Both of my children also participated in as well as interned at the summer theater arts and music camp. That experience taught them performance skills, teamwork and organization. They also have both volunteered for the Rock out Loud program for disabled children which taught them compassion and just how music can transform everyone no matter who you are. My husband and I also took lessons...piano and voice respectively. The vibe from the staff to the actual physical space is welcoming and caring.
