My family could have died because of Cornerstone Inspection Services' negligence. We moved to Noblesville this past July and had Cornerstone Inspection inspect our new home before we bought it. We noticed a gas smell since the first day of walking through the utility room but no one said anything and when we received our inspection report and it didn't have anything about a gas leak, we trusted them and thought a little smell must be normal. In Nov 2024 our extended family said we should get it checked out. Centerpoint immediately detected 5-6 large leaks all over the utility room, locked the outside gas box and shut it off, leaving us with no heat or hot water for 2 days before we could have a plumber replace most of the gas lines in the utility room. The leak was so severe my family and I could have died if our house blew up. Not only did Cornerstone Inspection completely miss 5-6 severe gas leaks, when we reached asking for help with the bill, they went as low as they could go. First, they accused, and still accuse both large well-reputable plumbing companies in Noblesville of trying to sell us unnecessary and expensive repairs. The reality is, we had the 2 independent professional companies both agree with each other the same scope (quotes were $1500-2,200) I told both companies CIS accused them of trying to sell unnecessary fixes and they were rightly offended. One asked for CIS's name. Additionally, both companies had 4 plumbers (2 each with managers involved) speak into the proposals vs 1 CIS inspector and his plumber friend he refers to. By the way, his friend never even came in our house to assess anything before accusing these other companies. Second, CIS claims all the leaks occurred in the 60 day timeframe from when they inspected it to when we moved in. The previous owners did not have any gas line or other work done in the utility room in that timeframe. Both plumbing companies say there is no way all those leaks immediately came to be in that short timeframe and the one who we hired to replace the lines said it happened over a long period of time (years) due to improper original installation. Note: We learned CIS only use their noses to detect if there is a gas leak whereas there is a special gas detector tool Centerpoint uses that I'm sure they could invest in. To this day CIS will not budge. They accuse 2 companies of excessive selling and make a claim that is completely bogus to save themselves. They even quoted us multiple lines of their contract saying the inspection is not a warranty or guaranteed, etc. So, they're basically saying in their contract, if they get something wrong, they're off the hook, (including a $1500-2200 multiple gas leaks situation where a house could blow up.) To me that means, don't trust anything they say. And even more, if they can miss this magnitude of a gas leak, your family could be in grave danger if you use them. Stay away from CIS and pass this true event on to others. read more

I had two people who came out and did an inspection it was sooo much that they missed skipped pictures or didn't even document right. Not to mention my roof is a mess it's mold just a horrible job. They refused to cover the work or even give me my money back they are rip offs be aware! read more

Shady at best. A homebuyer hired Cornerstone to inspect the home I was selling. The home was in immaculate shape. I can only imagine, that due to the condition of the home, the Inspector was forced to conjure up deficiencies. He/she stated that the furnace safety switch was taped down. He also reported damage to some shingles on the roof without physically inspecting the roof. Here merely took his camera, zoomed-in and snapped a few pictures. He also faulted the deck, stating warped wood. The entire inspection report lead us to think that this was nothing than a complete joke and a really unprofessional way of forcing money out of our hands and into the buyer's. Being the nice guy that I am, I obliged to the buyer's request for additional service requests to be completed on the home. All 3 of the companies I hired to complete these bogus tasks as listed by the Home Inspector, discounted me and went on to state in their reports that initial findings were false. read more

I would not recommend Cornerstone Inspection for their services. My husband and I purchased our first home in August of 2014 and three days after moving in noticed significant leaks in our roof. Once we saw the leaks, we noticed several problems that were all clearly visible in our garage. None of this was mentioned in the inspection report. Several licensed roofers that have given us estimates on repairs have all been extremely shocked that none of the problems were mentioned in our inspection report. I find it disconcerting that this business is to provide home inspections yet if they make errors they have no accountability to the client. If you go with them, or any other inspection company for that matter, read the pre-inspection report carefully and hire someone that takes more responsibility for their errors and omissions. read more

Cornerstone was recommended to me to use as an inspection company. I was here during the inspection. According to the representative from Cornerstone - little was really needed to be done.... 6 weeks later I find that there is no furnace filter cabinet or place for a furnace filter. What is here is a nylon mesh filter crammed in between the blower and furnace or air duct....not at all professsional for today's needs. I will have to pay a HVAC company to install a filter cabinet. A couple of windows are broke.....80% of my windows dont have screens which I will have to pay to get fixed..... The dryer vent had not 1 but 3 bird nexts lodged in there which I had to pay a company $200 to clean out. Dryer was not adaquately drying clothes - would take 3 times or cycles to dry...so I investigated. My licensed electrician friend had to rewire the breaker box in order to make sure power was out to the AC unit - this was not at all right. Obvious and major needs that should have been noted so that I would have had the seller pay for these. I would not recommend Cornerstone to anyone for future home inspection. read more

Hiring this company proved to be a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME & MONEY. Had our Carmel, IN home inspected by them on 10-12-2017. They rate their inspection items by categories of Major Repairs, Safety Repairs, General Repairs and Items to Monitor. Nowhere in the report did it list: 2nd floor air conditioner was shot. I'm guessing they never tested it since it was 55 degrees out.($3,200), Instant hot water was shot and had grossly obvious signs of prior leaking ($4,500) and The garage door didn't close properly, despite me bringing this to their attention ($295.00). I really am not concerned about the two ceiling fans that you cannot change the speeds on or the horribly loose outlets that won't keep plugs in them. Sure wish I would have researched these idiots prior to hiring them and paying them $750.00 for this worthless inspection Buyer Beware!!!!! read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Terrible experience. My husband and I purchased a home 1 year ago. Should have know when it only took 1 1/2 hours for inspector to inspect a 5,000 sq ft home and report was back before he left something was shady. Since we purchased the home we are 25k in on structural, mechanical and several items not up to code worth of repairs with more to go. None of which were found on inspection. Immediately after moving in, I discovered significant problems including two leaks, unreported holes in cabinets and walls, and concrete problems They refused to take any responsibility or to refund any portion of the fees I had paid them. No response to a follow up e-mail that I sent to info@csinspection. com. If you hire these inspectors, please follow them closely and be sure that they actually climb their ladders and look at your windows and siding. Don't let them simply point to a window, snap a pic, and call themselves covered. Had they actually gotten up to the window itself, I would have had a picture provided that showed a giant hole in the trim, and they would have noted a lack of protection from rain. But of course, they covered themselves with their finger pointing. Thanks, Cornerstone! 4/3/17 update: They also missed a giant, gaping hole in my roof planking! While this house received a whole new roof shingle job, the hole had been present for a long time before I bought this house! Horrible service, truly horrible! I'm so glad they pointed out the crack in my toilet lid, though! read more

We hired Cornerstone Inspection to inspect my home before purchase. We met with the inspector Todd. He found a few things, but missed some huge huge huge problems. Typical stuff he spotted: - Garbage disposal wire missing ground clamp - Tripping hazard (crack in concrete floor in one room) - Poorly routed furnace and water heater ducts - Improperly grounded gas pipes Typical stuff he missed: - Concrete floor being cracked was because there was no foundation under an addition built onto the house (counted in the square footage). The concrete slab that the addition was built on was sinking. To properly repair this room required a complete teardown and rebuild, roughly $20k! - Furnace was improperly configured and was putting out heat 30F below the typical range. It was an easy wiring fix but crazy that he didn't even check the output temp of the furnace during inspection. - Termite damage that was clearly visible in floor joists. - Electrocution hazard -- a wire was routed and spliced *resting on* the bathtub drain *outside of a junction box* (funny thing is, there's a picture of the splice in the inspection report under "water stains on subfloor", but no mention of the extremely dangerous wiring). - The entire electric system had no ground. When I met with a contractor to look at repairing cracks in the concrete floor he was pretty funny -- suggested that had he done the inspection he'd expect me to have him in court. I'll give him one star for showing up on time and spotting a few things, saving us a few bucks. Frankly though, you would be better served by reading a book on home inspection for a day, and then doing the inspection yourself over hiring these guys. read more

Winterizing your home is protection from broken pipes when you turn the water on in the Spring. One would think a "certified" inspection company would know that all pipes need to be evacuated of water and trapped air. Upon turning the water back on in April, we discovered an upper floor washer that was not disconnected and not flushed. Water everywhere! Upon calling Cornerstone to inform them of this issue, I was told "Without paying for the Dewinterizing Service from Cornerstone, your leak is not our issue." What a useless company! Cornerstone inspected the house I my fiancé and I have been living in for about 8 months now in Tipton. The inspector (Randy) was on time and didn't skip a beat with anything that was a concern in the home. He even let my fiancé follow him around to the attic, crawl and roof so he could check everything out and ask his questions. Overall I am highly impressed with the company, despite the 3 other reviews I read on here prior to scheduling, I trusted my gut on this one and it wasn't wrong!! Another thing is the office staff is friendly and patient. They went over the top to make sure I knew about the process, since this was our first time buying a home. on 5-7-2021 cornerstone inspection svc at 443 rangeline rd in carmel indiana completed a home inspection for me. the two inspectors were very courteous and appeared to be very professional as they worked. it took them less than 3 hrs to finish. two days later, i called on a friend who is a local contractor, to go with me to look at how the gutters were working and whether or not the rainwater was draining away from the foundation properly. i was quite concerned about areas i had seen next to the house which were sunken and wanted his input on that too. my contractor friend discovered that the massive , 2-story brick front entry arch, at its top, had separated from the front wall and had been caulked on both sides. each of the caulk joints appeared to be about 50-60 inches long. and the caulk joints had already pulled apart along most of their length. at the back of the house in a corner of the brick veneer ,there was a similar crack beginning about 8 ft above inner corner of deck, extending up to soffit, indicating that part of house had also moved. using a level, it was calculated that the arch was over 2" off plumb, and tipping away from the house. using a level it was calculated that the rear ( nw ) corner of the house was tipping away from the house. the chimney at rear ( w ) of the house was next measured, and it was calculated that it was tipping away from the house about 2 inches at its top. i took photos of all, and also two places where large wet spots were visible as water was coming through from behind the brick veneer, one on north side, one on south side of house. i gave all into to my agent ( same evening). she forwarded it to cornerstone inspection svc. next day. president of cornerstone inspection svc went to site and took pictures of arch area only, and added that to their report as an amendment. no mention nor picture of long crack bat ack porch. no mention of chimney tipping outward from house. no mention of nw corner of house tipping outward from house. no apology from cornerstone inspection for a poor and incomplete inspection and they ignored everything we found except the arch. $15,400,00 estimate for repair of all, by smartcrawl foundation experts. i won't use cornerstone inspection again and i would advise anyone else to find another inspection service. read more

Because of COVID I was unable to walk-through the house with the inspector and because of that he didn't do his job AT ALL. After moving in, I found plumbing under my sink that was taped together that he missed, I had several holes in my sulfates of the roof, and the corner of my siding was broken and exposed. Since none of these things were listed in my inspection I didn't ask the previous home owners to fix anything since nothing major was on the report. Prior to them even showing me the report they made me sign an agreement form that basically protects themselves from any responsibility of not doing their job. So when I moved it, I found all these issues and one of the holes in the sulfate had bats living it in. total cost of repairs so far has been around $2500.00. So after I brought this to their attention they sent the "manager" out to do another inspection and he responded 4 days later in an email stating all of those things should of been reported in the inspection and were not. Then told me they would refund my inspection cost of $375.00 and that was it. What a joke, do yourself a favor and hire someone who is going to actually do their job right the first time around because now I'm out 2K for their laziness. read more

I had a really great experience with Cornerstone when I used them to inspect a home we were purchasing. Setting up the appointment was easy, and they were able to do it the same week I called. The inspector was right on time, and he was polite and professional throughout the afternoon. I felt that he was extremely thorough, crawling into the awkward spaces of the old house and (somehow) managing to get up through the tiniest attic access point. He encouraged me to accompany him throughout the inspection and answered all of my questions with extreme patience (and I had a lot of them!). I received my inspection report within a few hours of the end of my appointment, and I found it to be very detailed and accompanied by a ton of photos. It proved to be very useful later when hiring contractors to fix things that we didn't request from the seller. Overall I am very pleased with such a smooth experience during all the stress of buying a home. read more

Disgraceful experience. Missed so many items, individually not huge deal, but in total, would have been deal breaker. Items everyone Buyer would want to know or assumed would be. A reasonable person. In addition to that, missed rotted wood windows, yet pointed out some, so basic deceptively saying some worse some not. Missed major leak in tub, downspout issues below deck, furnace piping leaks, and actually door locks not working. Toilet with duct tape holding down plunger, door lock failures, window rot pointed out on some, but not others, leaking faucets, damaged ceilings, not pointed out, roof damage not pointed out. They said they don't check, didn't see, and hid behind their limited liability insurance. They came out and looked, said they would "take care of it" and "make it right" for us, and then sent to their insurance company. All contractors who have been in to fix, laugh about how bad this was. When I mentioned Cornerstone, it gets an eye roll. Cornerstone offered to repay my $390 inspection fee, but nothing further. Insulting. Wish I would have read YELP and other sites prior to using them. I took the word of my realtor. DO NOT USE this company. Basic items, any reasonable buyer would want are not checked from our experience. An absolute horrible experience for these home buyers in Carmel, IN. read more

They were very thorough, added a ton of safety/major repairs that weren't, and buyer insisted on a licensed contractor/electrician to remedy everything, so I had to pay an electrician to come put a cover plate on an outlet, and since the inspector put on there that he recommends getting a qualified hvac inspection and chimney inspection, the buyers then made us pay for those inspections, even though we had a chimney inspection done before putting the house for sale, I was told some licensed contractors give kickbacks to the inspector, which explains why they all asked for a copy of the report, the inspector also missed the only real safety issue in the house, I had my electrician give the home a look over while here, and he found a live wire coming out of the electrical panel that wasn't hooked up to anything and just had electrical tape on the end of it, but over all, he checked everything pretty well, better than some might, and it just depends on who you get from this company, we had one from this company when we purchased the house who found no major issues, and we moved in and found several electrical, plumbing, and hvac duct issues that I feel should have been caught, also I felt the termite inspections was a waste of time since the only thing he did was look at wood in basement and garage and saw no termites around, which I already knew, and then we had a bunch of termites around the house about 3 months after we bought it and were told that there should have been signs during the inspection since they were so bad read more

Cornerstone was great with our new home construction home inspection. Meghan was great at scheduling to meet our needs, providing thorough pricing and information, always responsive, friendly and courteous, and our inspector Todd did a very detailed job and found some things we never would have known or noticed, and some that would have been a real pain to have discovered after moving in. We found Cornerstone to be slightly lower priced than comparable services but of very high quality. We would recommend them to friends and family and will work with them again if we ever buy another home. Worth every cent. read more

This company inspected our home and after they left we discovered some of the lights were not working in the house after they left. We contacted them and of course they did not want to take responsibility for their actions. We discovered a wire pulled lose in the attic. No one else had been in the attic but yet they denied causing the problem. My husband had to track down the problem and fix it so the buyers would have lights. If you use this company you should inspect your own house before they leave and make sure to be there while they are there. read more

I would not recommend Cornerstone Inspection. They misdiagnosed a problem with my house. When I emailed the owner, Randy Surrette, to ask for further assistance, he did not respond. I called the office 3 days later and spoke to Laura. She said she would make sure I got the paperwork I needed. I never received anything. It took getting my real estate agent involved before Randy would respond. Very unprofessional. I highly recommend you use another inspection company. read more
