Needed a place for a brew and lunch on Friday - Corner Pocket did not disappoint! It's clean and cozy, sprawling and not too noisy. The seating area is far enough away from the pool tables that it doesn't feel like you are eating in a pool hall. They have a kitchen that seems to be kind to vegetarians - I had a delicious potato-leek soup which came with well-buttered toast. Beyond the soup it is the usual-but-somewhat-expanded pub fare and the menu is extensive. I ordered the mozzarella sticks - they were nothing extraordinary but they did come with a generous amount of yummy, heated marinara sauce. This is a crictical detail because seems like when I order these in other bars lately I get a tiny portion of bad, cold sauce. My friend had the sliders (2) with Jo Jo potatoes. The food AND service is USUALLY 10/10 or at least 8/10 . My only constructive criticism is, that, Corner Pocket should not advertise on the internet that they are open particular hours and then repeatedly close way earlier. At best it's an oversight on management's part; at worst: False Advertising. I mean, if you want to close up shop an hour before your advertised closing time, you can do that, I guess-? First of all, we had to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke because smoker area is right by the front food. We were meeting friends for drinks and dinner on Sunday. After sitting for over 15 mins, the bartender asked if we wanted menus. Then he told us they didn't have a cook on Sundays so we could just have deep fried foods. We had a drink and left through the cloud of dust where the bartender was having a cigarette. Nothing found on line told us that There is no cook on Sundays. Very disappointed. read more

Had a delightful first experience (on a smoky wildfire day in Salem). Called ahead and spoke with Leslie, who was delightful, regarding menu questions. She was even nicer when we got there. It was cool and the air was filtered of any outside smoke. Service was excellent, and the food came out hot and tasty. Bring your appetite and cash (as there is a surcharge for cards FYI). Their house made Bloody Mary mix is one of the best I've had in Salem. Not made with Worcestershire! Corned beef hash was also house made and very good. I'm on a low salt diet and got a little more than I hoped, but that's my fault. Bartender was a hoot and very attentive. read more

I have had breakfast here a few times now. The Breakfast Burrito was YumYum, eggs were cooked just right and not to spicy. They Chicken Fry an awesome Pork cutlet and a Chicken breast (pounded out to a nice flat steak), Both were very juicy and moist. The Gravy has a ton of flavor, I think there's a little bacon in it. BTW It's a bar so under 21 not allowed. I plan to try lunch soon, and play some Pool on one of the tables they have. Glad to see this new addition to the neighborhood. read more

So I discovered this place after seeing the YouTube review of the build a burger about 6 months ago ... 1st time I ate here I would have gave it 5 Stars for the food and Big Mikes service. For what ever reason there has been a high turnover of staff which is a shame the food is now hit and miss and so is the service. This was my favorite place for a short time but it has lost its luster. It was once dependably very good to down right great but it's now just good mostly because you never know who's cooking in the kitchen or serving behind the bar each time you walk through the door. The bar is a nice spot. Pool tables, video poker, a dance floor. The food is pretty good but not consistently good during the day. The late night menu is mostly fried food and snack items but it's consistently good every night. This bar is close to where I live so I have been by frequently, mostly in the evenings to relax after work. The vibe for this bar varies based on the customers that come in. They have karaoke three nights a week and a neat little booth for the karaoke host to work out of. I LOVE karaoke, but It's weird to see multiple karaoke hosts every week. I asked one of the female Hosts about it after seeing multiple different people and she said management doesn't like anyone being too comfortable in one spot and they never know where they will be every week. She didn't sound happy about it either. As a regular it would be nice to not have to introduce myself every time and to actually build a relationship with the KJ, since that is why I mostly stay out as late as I do. read more
