Madison seems to have 3 types of thrift stores. Goodwill, St Vinnies, and those run by churches…read moreand/or church ladies. This is the latter type, and they all seem to be very similar (Bethesda, Agrace, etc). Less crowds, traffic, anxiety, and clutter than Goodwill and St Vinnies, but also less selection. Check back regularly and you will find some treasures. For the most part the prices are fair. If I specifically need something, I start with Goodwill, because I have the best chance of browsing. But I dont always feel like stopping in Goodwill just to browse. Versus it can be very peaceful to stop in Boomerangs, or similar. I've probably been there a dozen times since they opened, and bought something 3 of the times. They have furniture, which not all thrift stores carry. The staff has always been helpful.

I found the store without problem, it is in a plaza which also has a food Co-Op. The Goodwill is clean, well organized and pretty much what you expect, plenty of clothing, a nice selection of home goods and decor. I was impressed with the selection of computer related equipment at this store; they had a large selection of computer printers which were in good condition. I had been looking for an Epson printer that uses specific ink refills since I had them on hand. I was lucky enough to find exactly the printer I was looking for and it was priced at $5. When I got the printer home it worked well, just needed to install the software and have the printer clean the printer heads. While not the most recent printer, this was a great buy and made my day. Well worth checking out if you are thrifting, especially if looking for computer related equipment.

This is a clean and well organized store with hardworking and friendly staff! Everyone I…read moreencountered seemed genuinely happy to be there and help customers, even the evening I popped in just shy of closing. So nice! The art selection was particularly good one day. Another time, scored some really beautiful leather purses! The prices are slightly higher than other charity resale shops, but reasonable.

With some extra time in Madison between my Frank Lloyd Wright tours I figured I would check out…read moresome of the local thrift stores, luckily Agrace Thrift Store was close to my motel. Located in strip of shops I found to be Agrace to be a very nice thrift store with a good selection of upscale items. The selection of clothing is a bit limited, but they were doing work to expand the shop into the store next door. Agrace did have a nice selection of decor and home goods, including some really unique vintage items. I found a nice older Mexican wood carving that was very reasonably priced and had to buy it. Agrace is a very nice thrift store with some really good items for sale, well worth a visit to see if you can find something you like. A bit upscale, but with good prices so check them out.

She was a no-show. Called to find out she was off. Called main number Tuesday. Henry said they would pick up Wednesday. They showed up Wednesday an hour late, but I wasn't concerned because there was snow on the ground and I knew they would refuse again, legitimately. Called Michelle, she was told I would move the three pieces to my garage. That conversation never took place. Lots of communication issues here and I have wasted 10 days time.

This place needs some love and I am literally so sad I never checked this place out until recently…read more I came here looking for a couch and certainly left with one which I've included below. I'll say that you shouldn't go in with expectations hoping you'll find something same day. However, I've already been back more than once this week and I keep leaving with things I need! I got this couch for $100 and I feel lucky! One of the legs could use replacement for aesthetics but it is sturdy in its current state even if don't fix it. I also picked up a table (I'm using it as an end table) for $15 because it was missing 4 nuts to attach the top to the legs. It had a few scratches on the table top but a little sharpie fixed it. I went in again and found a nice circular mirror for $35. I've been super pleased with my finds. Things are constantly being added so if you love something that much, buy it! Not everything is a "deal" per say but you can find some good things here. Check out their Facebook page as they've been a little bit more active on adding some of the things they've been selling which got me into their actual store!

Since Madison's "hippie Christmas" turned out to be a bit of a bust, we were really looking forward…read moreto checking out SWAP today. It's only open to the public on Fridays and the 2nd Saturday of each month. Never heard of it? Neither had I. From the SWAP website: "SWAP collects, processes, and redistributes surplus property generated by UW-Madison and state agencies, while providing UW-Madison departments, government agencies and non-profit organizations with low-cost, quality surplus equipment and supplies and finding reuse and recycling markets for surplus property. " And what does this mean? Deals, deals, deals! Once we found the proper exit off of 151-S in Verona, we walked into a warehouse busting with furniture, electronics, and computers. The inventory changes weekly, with new (well, old actually) additions coming from all the UW sites across the state in 20 - 30 truckloads a week! You'll find solid desks ($5-30), 60s-style chairs ($5), metal file cabinets, gym lockers, random electronics and lab equipment, and cheap computers. They even have some Badger sports equipment and uniforms. Oh, and ever wonder what happened to that old rusty bike you left chained to a campus bike rack for a season or two? You'll probably find it here for $5. Today they were giving away free dorm chairs (as many as you'd like) with a purchase. Once we crammed our loot into the car, we drove away with six cool vintage chairs for a total of $10. Not too shabby! Check their website for listings of new inventory and their online auction, too.

This past Saturday, they were selling lots of Badger gear from the swimming/diving team, rowing team and the tennis team. There was a large variety of shirts for $5 each, sweatshirts for $20, jackets for $30, etc. They had a lot of badger seat cushions for $.25/each. I wish I needed chairs. There were so many really nice chairs there (starting at $5 each). Lots of shelves, file drawers, tables, lab equipment, computer stuff, etc. We scooped up an awesome set of 8 lockers for $35 (previously marked for $100). The set is in great shape and will come in really handy. Give yourself about an hour to peruse the aisles. The prices are super low and can't be beat. They do have an online bidding site also for their more popular items. Open to the public the 2nd Saturday of each month.
