We had the bucket of wings, which, of course we could only make a dent in because there were so many wings so well worth the $30. Fast casual--think little silverware set-ups and tiny packets of sour cream with baked potato. Salad bar a D (assemble your own house salad more like it--iceberg, black olives, cheddar shreds, bacon bits, croutons)--prime rib an A for flavor but not heated through (on prime rib special night), NY strip looked the exact same as prime rib? walleye fillets had a lot of tiny bones, crappy was fried beyond recognition as a fish fillet, smothered chicken was unremarkable but fries are the super crisp kind with a crackle on the outside and they brought extra tartar sauce--a standout side. I am team lakeshore all the way.

I'd recommend arriving early--the tables fill up fast. There was already a small wait forming as we were leaving. We started with the steak bites, which were very flavorful, though a bit chewy. The sides were hit or miss: the mac and cheese was delicious, but the steamed broccoli was cold. The prime rib was cooked well and came with a huge cup of au jus. We had to remind our server for the baked potato toppings, but it wasn't a big deal. The kids ordered the hot dog and mac and cheese meals. The hot dog was fine (as expected), but the mac and cheese was a little watered down. Our server was pleasant and helpful with menu questions. The best part is the view--the entire lakeside wall of windows gives a beautiful look over the water. Just be aware that the sun can hit you directly

A male employee jumped up on the front counter to remove the greenery. I observed him walking on the counter. When the greenery was removed he jumped down and looked at the counter. There must have been some dirt on his shoes because he took his hands and swept that on to the floor on the kitchen side of the counter. NOTHING else was done. No one disinfected the counter top. When I was leaving I called this to the attention of an employee and got a bunch of attitude from her. She claimed not to have had time to do it. Yeah right. There was ONE walk in customer and a few going through the drive up. At least 4 employees were working. There were shoes prints all over the counter top and they were going to serve food on it. Yikes.

Staff here are friendly, as you would expect in Iowa. There's a certain indescribable charm to Casey's that just leaves me feeling content and at home. Their pizza and donuts are both delicious and I recommend both. The coffee is cheap, with a few different syrups available to self-serve, and hits the mark as far as drip coffee goes. Casey's is worth a stop whether you're driving through or just need a place to stop for a bit.
