The white walls make the space seem large and bright and allow whatever may be hanging on them to grab your full attention. Track lighting provides the perfect illuminating atmosphere to showcase artwork. There is a fully equipped kitchen at the back of the main space for entertainment purposes and special events. I believe the rental price for events at the gallery is reasonable. Once you enter the door opens into a wide space and you are welcomed by the gallery director. I particularly like this gallery because they are so heavily involved in community and arts education. The gallery is actually in an old police station and has three gallery's in it, with three different shows running at the same time. Everyone there is very friendly and the rotating exhibitions are something to keep your eye on!

The cool thing is that the works of art are available for viewing 24/7 because the 169 building and parking garage houses a Goodlife Fitness which is open 24/7. This also means there are security guards stationed inside to keep an eye on the patrons' safety. Be careful in the parking garage and watch out for cars when looking at the artwork. Make sure to visit the cool touch screen directory in the parking garage near the entrance to the building where the stairs and escalator are. So when we found ourselves out and about and in the Dundas West area, I figured it was the perfect time to pop in. I do love the fact that there's no indication it's a bar on the outside. Looking in, you see a small but cool-looking gallery that may or may not be open. Once you walk in, though, you find yourself confronted with a curtain that leads to a friggin' awesome, super cool bar. We poked our heads in and the two bartenders waved us in. We snagged a couple of spots at the bar and were presented with very cool, very hip menus. I wound up trying a couple of drinks, the French Braids ("Calvados, Del Maguey Vida, Averna, Madeira, French Vermouth, Thyme") and The Zombie ("Cry Baby Rum Blend, Cointreau, Pineapple, Lime, Pimento, Falernum, Sorrel"), and they were both amazing. I'd had cocktails in a similar vein before, but both these concoctions were so far beyond any I'd had in terms of flavors and complexity that I was knocked flat on my butt. The best thing about the Power Plant is that it's absolutely free (donations are welcome). It's well-ran and nicely curated. There's also a section for kids, with a scavenger hunt. My only complaint is that the art is rather sparse. I wish they could pack more art into the small space. I'm sure that there are lots of talented local artists who would love to be able to exhibit their art in this space. So, I think it behooves on the Power Plant to make it happen.

They focus on photography, and like to showcase local, and often up & coming talent. The space is bright and beautiful; small but great for intimate viewing of each piece. Furthermore, Akasha offers framing services. I had a number of pieces framed by them, and they were extremely helpful (and patient) through the process.
