The Power Plant is Canada's leading public art gallery devoted exclusively to contemporary visual…read moreart. Open on New Year's Eve, the current temporary exhibition Arctic/Amazon: Networks of Global Indigeneity goes until December 31 at 3pm. Don't miss out on this rare and extraordinary treasure! It is a stunning exhibition to see if you are near downtown Toronto's Waterfront or the Harbourfront Centre. Thanks to BMO Financial Group it's free admission to the gallery. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, video installation, and performance art, global artists tackle issues of climate change, globalized Indigeneity, and colonial encounters within the circumpolar Arctic and the Amazon during times of crisis. Arctic/Amazon: Networks of Global Indigeneity features works from artists Sonya Kelliher-Combs, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Couzyn van Heuvelen, Máret Ánne Sara, Cecilia Vicuña, Uýra, Olinda Reshinjabe Silvano, Ronin Koshi, Wilma Maynas, Morzaniel Iramari, Leandro Lima & Gisela Motta, Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, Outi Pieski, Biret Haarla Pieski, and Gáddjá Haarla Pieski. This exhibition explores the ways in which artists and collaborators combine Indigenous ways of knowing and being, in relation to the land, a major source of creativity for these artists. Their works represent a politics of resistance and resurgence while also revealing connections to the Arctic or the Amazon. Thoughts while going through AGO... "What the F%$K?" (most…read morepopular, not in a bad way) "That's awesome!" "That is stupid." "My 9 year old Niece might have painted that..." I'm sure you'll feel the same way... Not the best art museum in the whole world, but they go plenty of variety from ancient, to classical, to masterpieces, to crappy pieces, to what the heck is that.. I've been to the Uffizi in Florence, Louvre in Paris, National Gallery in Oslo, and other fancy schmancy museums... they're all great too...but I love the extra modern and contemporary art! Weird rocks my world. I am weird! $30 CAD / $23 USD for an Adult ticket, but I had the CityPass so this was one of my included attractions. $30 isn't cheap, but I spent almost 2 hours here becoming more cultured, enlightened, and elitist...so I think I got my money's worth.

It's always refreshing seeing creative work in action, so this is my go-to spot for an intriguing, adventurous day out. My favourite theme was the KAWS display. They had multiple sculptures of KAWS in different colors, shapes and sizes. They also had a few KAWS x Simpsons paintings, which was my absolute favourite. I'm a huge Simpsons fan, so this was truly exciting to see. The gallery was bright, perfect for a photo-op to post on socials. I had a wonderful time, and I can't wait to visit again! If you're looking for a day out that'll inspire your creativity and stun you, this is definitely the spot to visit with friends or family.

401 Richmond is an industrial building turned into an arts and culture hub in downtown Toronto…read morelocated along Richmond near Spadina. The building houses numerous art galleries, small businesses, shops, a cafe, and even has a hidden courtyard garden which you can pass some time in to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It's easy to get lost in the building admiring the many artworks. They even have a rooftop terrace only accessible to the tenants of that building. I've only been to 401 Richmond a few times, mainly for the Spacing store to grab cute gifts or the Dark Horse Espresso to grab coffee. My friend wanted to explore the hidden garden courtyard so we stopped by on a Sunday. Unknown to us, all of the art galleries are mostly closed on Sunday but we were still able to roam around the building between floors quite freely, admiring the art displayed in the hallways. Moreover, the courtyard was empty when we went so it was a really nice quiet sanctuary in the city. Overall, a beautiful space with lots to explore and do if you are into art and design! The hidden garden courtyard is definitely a nice escape from the city. Lovely space to walk around even on a Sunday, despite everything being closed.
