Following a short flight of stairs I was led down into a wee little basement gallery. This brightly lit and warm space is serves double-duty as a gallery and studio space. The lovely lasses working there told me they are planning on hosting workshops on screenprinting and lithography. Sounds neat. The gallery, though small, was full of oil paintings. They are presently showcasing the work of Kari Minchin, though they change up the artist frequently. There were also some cool gift-ables, like handmade notebooks, greeting cards, and these truly brilliant screen-printed calendars. When I was there they had just put out a limited edition of the calendars which featured artistic embellishment and accents on each month. Those will probably get snapped up pretty quickly. A very pretty shop. I need to bring my kid sister here. Obligatory Title Pun: CARVE out some time and get DOWN here. Menu Readability: Their guestbook in a graph-paper notebook was a nice touch. Need to mention: Check the calendar on their website for events and workshops. What this place teaches me about myself: Is there an Association of Twee? I'd like to be the treasurer.

My first CMYE! (Stands for "Community Manager Yelp Event"!)…read more This event transported me back to the days of art class! ... and printing presses! I haven't done any "crafty" hands-on artwork since high school! So this was exciting! The studio is this cute quaint haven tucked downstairs at one of the tiny shops along Queen St. West. The venue is an extension of Artscape. We were immediately greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the instructors, who happen to be local artists; Jessica Bromley Bartram, Pam Lobb, and Erin Candela. The instructors were extremely sweet, friendly and informative about the process, and the use of the presses. Every student there learned quickly, and used the machines it like a pro! Provided for us were textured paper, ribbon, lace, q-tips, popsicle sticks, and paints in the colors of blue, red, and green. I'm sure other colors are available upon request. Then it was time to get dirty! (Oh behave! You know what I mean!) Lessons today were Letter Presses and Monoprints! I was so delighted to see the vintage press machines! We commented on how ODD it felt to create anything hands-on these days! Sigh ... The Letter Press is the use of block letters and characters (think large metal block stencils) to create type on paper. Monoprinting meant creating positive & negative shadows & color to create a pattern. We used fabrics & paints & other scrap materials to etch patterns on an ink medium. I thoroughly enjoyed the light music playing in the background! Nice soothing touch to add to the ambiance! Given the small space, it felt spacious with it's open concept, all-white minimal decor and bright lighting! For such a small space, the maximum group size is 8 people. Any more and there wouldn't be enough room, or time, for everyone to enjoy every station! Cost is typically $25 for a class, materials is extra. Our class tonite was $35 per person, including material. Yay! (NOTE: CASH ONLY) I felt I didn't have enough time, but that just means I was having TOO much fun! I highly recommend letting your inner artist loose here! It's a fabulous way to spend a relaxed and inspired afternoon with the boyfriend, (or in my case, husband), mom, sister, or catching up with an old friend! I'm so happy Toronto has this hidden gem! For those with kids, the Ontario Early Years Centre, Children's Montrose Children's Place, is located in the basement. Stroller parking can be found behind the wheelchair ramp, but it's not covered, so bring the rain cover on rainy days. The CMCP helped me get through the first 1-2 years of having twins. They'd watch the babes roll around and play with toys while I got to have adult conversation and free snacks and coffee. At holidays, there are special events here. Also, I have attended a number of private lessons/classes held in their rooms for rent. Ballet for kids- so cute! This place gives the Ossington and Trinity-Bellwoods community another spot to come together and support each other in arts, child-rearing, and socializing.

Interior brick walls, high ceilings and open floor plan allows the venue to become accommodating to almost any kind of event. It has that vintage but industrial kind of ceiling. The space is a reclaimed TTC barn and has five 'barns' each labeled with giant steel numbers. First is the artist live-work space, 2 is the event space where you will find the market on Saturdays in the winter and various other community events, 3 is the community theatre, 4 is The Stop greenhouse and kitchen, and 5 is the open air barn. There is also a children's playground on the east side of the building, an open field that becomes an ice rink in the winter on the south end, an off-leash dog park at the south-west corner, beach volleyball court on the west side, and plenty of benches and picnic tables scattered throughout. Interesting vendors include the venison guy, sweet potato man, Mennonite meat lady, knife sharpening guy, tofu dude, the fungi, and the freshwater fish people. In the warmer months it is outdoors and runs a bit later until 1 I think (it is still indoors as I write this so I'm not sure). The vendors are spread out over the walkways under their tents. Half the fun is stopping to chat with neighbours so check your usual Toronto sidewalk pace as you might get stuck behind a stroller and wagon jam. There are several vegetable vendors that also sell organic and heirloom variety seeds and seedlings in the spring. Too bad last summer was so cold and rainy - even so the purple tomatoes I planted were wonderful! ** The Dogpark ** It has weird hours and no commercial dog walkers are allowed. It is closed everyday between noon-3 p.m. and opens later in the morning on Sunday. I'll take a picture of the sign next time I'm there because it's confusing. There is a human + dog drinking fountain but the city doesn't turn on the water until mid-May so bring water for your pooches. Best doggy party times (as with most parks I'm sure) are from 5 - 7 p.m. There might be a morning party but I'm never up early enough to find out.

I was able to snag a Groupon for this place and it saved me quiet a few bucks. The staff at the museum are awesome. They were very welcoming, friendly, courteous, and helpful. They gave us our space, but stepped in to explain an illusion when we were looking puzzled or stumped. On downfall of this place is that it is not very big. We went through the meusuem in about 40 minutes, and that was stretching it out. Some of our favorite illusions were the clone card table, the galaxy room, the human kaleidoscope, the Tilted Room, the Reverse Room, the Ames Room (shrinking room), the human potted plant, 3D art, the RGB screen, shadow box/flash screen, the Beuchet Chair Illusion, hollow face illusion, swap noses illusion, infinity ladder and various other illusions such as the Müller-Lyer illusion and illusory motion. The museum's couch illusion appears to be unique to this location and is featured. It has the person put part of their body in a hole in the couch and using a fake pair of legs, make it look like they are doing some impossible poses. This is a very nice museum that is a decent place to spend a little time. It is about 30 minutes or so outside of Toronto and my family really enjoyed taking photos there. I wish this place was bigger, but I still highly recommend checking this place out.

Followed by another employee, Simrin popping out of nowhere as well and asked JJ, "you good"? For almost $100 for two kids and an adult, and how this place has gone downhill. You are better off visiting a real museum whether it be Toronto over time Niagara Falls. And given the price being charged for admission, you'd think that they would be able to purchase a new watering can. Has no one noticed that the handle is missing/broken off? Not worth it. I have been to a few holiday events in the past to see lights but illumi was an event completely magical and different from the other holdiay events I've been to. I gotta say it's probably even the best one. There are different displays, from an European escape (where you can ride the merry go round) to a section with animals, penguins and igloos. I couldn't say which is my favourite as they're all very good. It is kid-friendly as well and there are multiple photo ops opportunities and spots around you can stop for pics. Dress warm. You can also take a break inside where there's lots of seating space and some food options, as well as some merch for sale. The bubble tea (both hot/cold) were really good and the churros were also tasty. I'm not usually a fan of pretzels but I found the ones there tasty as well. Lots of parking space. Organized and many staff around to assist. Bring your cameras/phones with a full charge, a big and warm jacket to enjoy the experience. Give yourself at least 75 minutes or more. Strongly recommend booking online in advance as well for tickets.

This place is had to miss as you can the towering animated tree from miles. The tree is about 154 feet tall and made of 44,000 interactive luminous spheres. The place is huge. It spans about 13.8 acres which is equivalent to 10 football fields. There are 20 million bright lights spread between 13 "magical universes": Jurassic Encounter, The Colorful Animal Kingdom (Animals like snakes, elephants, flamingos, zebras and camels), A Kids Paradise, The Crazy Boulevard (a colorful set of houses with lights synced to music), Magic Lanterns (traditional Asian scenery), The Cavalia Horses, The Happiest Farm , The Europa Place, The Scarlet Spiders, The Tunnel of Love, The Infinite Poles (A North Pole/penguin land), and The Land of Frost. The also have a red lighted tunnel, which I liked but my favorite sections were The Crazy Boulevard and Scarlett Spiders. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but they have a lot to offer including free parking. They also have a limited amount of wagons to pull the little ones, that you can check out for free. They were all gone when I got there. I recommend buying your timed ticket online to ensure your time. You can buy it onsite as well, but you may have to wait if your time slot is full. The displays are very interactive. There are either designated spots for you to stand or you will also see lighted dress to pop your head in, lighted snowmobiles glowing benches, and tractors to sit on, and a bunch of animals to climb on and make great photo ops. I am not sure if the animals were intended to be climbed on, but everyone was doing it and and no one was saying anything about it. There are so many photo ops here. I hope you have a lot of memory available on your phone. I would also recommend wearing gloves that you do not have to take off to operate your phone. My hand froze. It was really cold when I visited. I really like that they had a heated snack bar/gift shop, to sit, warm up and get a quick bite. There is also a heat up room and some very warm bathrooms to warm up in as well. While here you can also visit a food truck, purchase hot and or adult beverages. You will find a carousel in the compound. I did not ride it though. We spent about an hour here and could have easily been here longer if it was not so cold. If I lived in Toronto, this would be an annual event for me. I really, really loved this place. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Legends of Horror is a yearly event in Oct presented by Captain Morgan on the grounds of Casa Loma…read more It started in 2022. The self-guided tour takes 1 to 3 hours to walk through the entire 2 Km trail, considered a "promenade theatre". The event runs from Oct 3 to Nov 2 in 2024, starting at 19:00 until late. A group of us went on 2024-10-04. A few audience members even dressed up in Halloween costumes. The cheapest tickets are $45 (Oct 3 to Oct 17) or $55 (Oct 18 to Nov 2) when purchased online. They don't allow use of flash photography so they will search you bags for flashes. The trail starts at a gate at the north-east corner of Walmer Rd and Davenport Rd. It traverses the grounds and tunnels of Casa Loma. The first portion of the trail has live and undead horror characters/animals that can pop up at any time. They never touch you and you must not touch them. Then you enter a hall where you can purchase drinks and snacks, with a live DJ to entertain you. After that, there is a 3D projection on the exterior of the castle, bringing the characters of the storyline and walls of the castle to life. Then you go through tunnels with fewer live or undead characters. Family hours are available Oct 18 to Nov 2 (17:00 to 18:30). It is for families with younger children, and less dark. There will be no live/undead characters. There are so many characters and animals to scare you. There are different themes like werewolves, Dracula, Stranger Things, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We took 3 hours. Everything was well-done. Alcoholic drinks cost around $9-$20. Outside food or drinks are not allowed The trail is not wheelchair accessible.
