It was a small art gallery in Unionville. We came here for the Markham Doors Open. It was showing the special art works. We were not familiar with the art works. This art gallery is fantastic! It is located in the beautiful Unionville, which is a beautiful historic town which you can walk around. The gallery has a few rooms with artwork from different artists. The gallery is very clean and is free to view. They kindly accept donations. If you are in the area, I highly recommend checking it out. It takes 30-1 hour to view all of the artwork depending how long you choose to browse. read more

I had some free time on my hands and decided to pop in at this small gallery which has become a forgotten pastime for me over the years. When Varley Art Gallery first opened, I used to go in on a regular basis and even took some art courses here. On a whim I decided to revisit and I had some very good memories seeing Varley's works again after so long. There were two recent additions to the collection by native artist, Norval Morrisseau which were a bright contrast to the subdued tones of the Varley pieces. In a separate room was a temporary exhibition featuring the work of a local artist by the name of Nava Waxman. The moment I stepped into this room I thanked myself for coming to the gallery. I spent a long time looking at the large photographic works and got totally absorbed by the ghost-like images. I found them both peaceful and invigorating. The images are softly out of focus and portray a rhythmic movement and flow. Another intriguing work was a flat screen showing a series of five still images that slowly morph into the next in a random order. It was intended to explore how we imagine the unknown and the predictable. I found it extremely effective and thought-provoking. The other two exhibits at the gallery did not speak to me in the same way. That's art for you. Love it or hate it I always feel like I come out having a new experience. For sure Waxman's "Coreographed Marks" made my visit worthwhile. I've made a note to myself to do the pop in more often. Hey, it's free admission. You never know what you may see. read more

I've come here a few times over the years. I usually drop by to check things out after walking the length of Main St in Unionville. I recall a time we dropped by, the gallery was closed however someone was really nice of us and let us in for an exclusive preview of carnival masks before the public. That was cool and I scored bonus points with my date that day. :p read more

Went: Sunday, April 12, 2015, 2 p.m. (4th date) This is a biased review because it might have been the company I was with that created the very positive experience. The art gallery featured a female abstract artist whose name escapes me. She had a lot of artistic range and tried many different styles. It created a lot of conversation between my date and I. There were also these aboriginal puppet-like items that were used to create a television show in the 50s or 60s which we both thought were intriguing. Best of all, it is free. I would go back, but only if a certain someone accompanies me. read more
