A very nice wine tasting room that is 21 and older only. The wine was very tasty and the setting was very relaxing and they have live music on the weekends. This is the perfect place to come and enjoy a nice glass or bottle the of wine. They do offer cheese platters, but you can pickup some food and bring it in and just chill. I had the Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne Chardonnay that had a crisp clean taste. It was very yummy... My husband had the Nero D' Avola Red wine and said it had a very smooth taste from start to end. Stopped in and was harassed by a worker for using the restroom first. When we tried to order they didn't know their own wines. We tried to taste some of the wines because the server was ignorant, we even offered to pay for the tasting, but the server suggested we 'just leave'. It was very strange, we believe it's because we are a homosexual couple, so sad people are still like that. read more

We are on a road trip and had to use the restroom. A very rude server literally knocks on the door, asking us what we want to order. When I say a light red she insists all they have is a Pinot. When I ask for more she doesn't know what else they have? Worst experience ever. read more

This place and the owner is Fantastic!!!! I had a private party back in Oct for my brothers wedding Rehearsal. Bob was easy to work with and figured out what best worked for our party. I could not be more happy with how everything was ran. He made the party feel very special. Even made personal menus for the rehearsal!! Such a nice and special touch . The personal feed back I got from the guest which was about 30 people, they loved every min of being at Cork 49. Which we had a lot of out of town guest. I personally love this place so much I have even became a Cork 49 wine club member :). I had attended other events here and everyone I have enjoyed and had a great time.Bob has done great job from selecting the variety of wines to choose from and even supports local by caring local beer. Love what Bob and his family have done with this place. Great new wine bar! Great selection of wine and friendly staff! Nice outdoor patio and comfortable atmosphere inside. We went for the Sunday all you can drink mimosas and really enjoyed. They offer a choice of different juices to mix with your champagne as well as quiche, fruit, and scones. Lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. Grass Valley needed something like this! read more

If I could give zero stars that would be what I'd give. The proprietor of this establishment needs a education on how to operate his business. My family reserved this establishment for a private party last Dec. Apparently this man doesn't know the definition of "Private" he double booked the bar. When one of my family members asked him to please honor our agreement, which we had paid for, he became very rude and and confrontational. He refused to clear his establishment of patrons, so they ended up supporting his nasty belligerent behavior. The patrons continued to stay throughout our party. This whole experience was extremely awkward. If your looking for a venue to reserve for a "private" party keep looking. My suggestion to Mr. Cork 49, learn how to professionally conduct yourself if you want to stay in business. Every guest that was in attendance for our party is aware of your belligerent, rude behavior and all of them have assured us, they will never patronize your establishment. In my recollection, that was at least 50 people in attendance. A small business can't afford this kind of hit. I hope you will improve your business practices, if you want to enjoy business success. read more

After browsing the lovely Grass Valley Thursday night market this evening, I decided to have a glass of wine here. Initially it was ok- it took awhile to be acknowledged and served but it didn't bother me too much. In that time waiting, I couldn't help but notice a dark haired woman with glasses being boisterous and loudly using profanity while sitting at the bar area. It was distracting and obnoxious. Then to my surprise, she went behind the counter and it is unclear whether or not she was an employee on the clock but after waiting a looooooong time after my wine glass had been empty, she approached me and was very rude and brash. She had clearly been inebriated. It left an unsavory taste in my mouth (pun intended) for what otherwise seems like a wine bar with some level of potential. If I had wanted this type of service I would have just walked a little further to Gary's. Betting Gary's would have been a better experience all things considered. I definitely will not be returning or recommending it to any friends. read more

This brand new wine bar located in the former Smith Winery tasting room just opened its doors this week in a "soft opening", so they are still getting up to speed. I believe a more formal grand opening is being planned. It is a very promising start as there is nothing like this in the area. While we have lots of winery tasting rooms to enjoy our local wines, Cork 49 being a true wine bar offers a much broader experience. They are still building inventory but already have a nice selection of wines both new and old world for purchase or to enjoy on premise and at very good prices. Selected wines are available by the glass or in flights. They also have a selection of bottled craft beers and will be offering charcuterie and other small plates to compliment their beverages. If you were ever in Smith's Tasting Room you know how pleasant and comfortable the space is. The Smiths did a great job of remodeling the old Bunce's Bar when they took it over. Now that the Smiths have retired from making wine, Bob & Karen, the owners of Cork 49, have repurposed the space nicely. We stopped by this past Thursday on the first day of their soft opening and selected a bottle of Rosé of Grenache gris from Corbières (Domaine de Fontsainte Gris de Gris). It was a beautiful wine. We look forward to enjoying many more interesting wines at Cork 49! read more

We attended a gathering here recently in which our friends were treated poorly by the owner. We've lived in the area for 40+ years and am saddened that they seem unconcerned about their reputation as a new business. This town has grown a lot, but it's still a small, tight knit community when it comes to knowing who has been treated as if their patronage and recommendation is valued. read more
