Customer service and communication matter, especially in a medical office, and the way I was spoken to was completely unprofessional. On top of that, my husband was able to cancel his appointment by text before the 24-hour window without issue, but when I did the exact same thing, I was told my message was "never received" and I would be charged the $60 fee. The inconsistency and lack of respect made the entire experience infuriating, frustrating and extremely disappointing. This place has many great reviews, but honestly dealing with Robin today absolutely changed my mind about bringing my family here. We want to feel welcomed; not like another number and they're just taking our money, so we will be taking our business somewhere else.

We were also grateful for the ability to have a payment plan that was interest free (we paid off ahead of schedule). Dr McFarland and staff have done a great job with Joseph's treatment, repairing broken brackets, dealing with head gear issues. Also we have thoroughly enjoyed the party that you have every year. The office was nice and super clean with medical grade air purifiers. My dental hygienist (Kristy) was so sweet and it was the first time my mouth wasn't sore after a cleaning. I've already called my family for them to book their next appointments. The office had pictures of the Loretto Chapel and the stairs that were built. It was a cute detail!

My last visit I had Amanda who was welcoming and super thorough! It was slightly uncomfortable, but i appreciate her thoroughness. For cleaning flavors. I recommend the birthday cake! During the visit, there's a small waiting room with a tv and keurig. In the cleaning rooms, there's a tv on the wall and ceiling to make time go by. (Crown work) according to their "dental treatment plan" they said I owed an additional amount. I found it odd because I had paid everything already out of pocket. Fast forward, recently my new dentist was out on maternity leave. I was at a time crunch. Therefore, i returned to Denton Smiles and saw Dr. Tran again. They supplied me with a complete and detailed "treatment plan" including x-rays. Again it was several thousand dollars. I'm a senior citizen living on a small fixed retirement pension, but am serious and responsible about paying my debts even if I use credit cards. Again this time I paid punctually 2 large payments over a few thousand. Again, after a month of having paid my bill (treatment plan") and dental work was completed, mysteriously i was billed an additional $200. dollars. Now every week i receive a harassing text of owing $200. I have called, I politely emailed and texted. But no answer or response. I requested a meeting with their accounts manager to show them a copy of their treatment plan and the payments I made that paid it in full. No response not even out of courtesy! Total I paid this practice $10,000 ! All to Denton Smiles. Their behavior can put responsible paying patients with good credit into a debt collection agency that ruins their credit! CAUTION: This facility does not keep their word nor respects their own treatment plans and bills they provide to patients. Even when you pay in full out of pocket and clarify insurance doesn't cover it (which they already know) they'll look for a reason to bill you a month or two AFTER you've already paid your bill in full. These are deceptive practices squeezing additional money out of responsible patients and worse ruining one's good credit. Months later, I am still waiting for the appointment to settle the matter.

This office is part of the Smile Generation network, which is a corporate dental group. After what I experienced, it felt very clear that the focus is on revenue, not patient care. To be blunt, I feel like this dental office straight up scammed me. I've never felt that way about a medical provider before, but they told me I needed procedures I didn't actually need and charged me for services I don't believe I truly received. At one of my first visits, they said I needed a "deep cleaning" that cost over $1,000. But a true deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) goes under the gums to remove buildup and bacteria, is usually done in sections, takes longer than a regular cleaning, and requires numbing because it's not comfortable. None of that happened in my case. The appointment was the same length as a regular cleaning, nothing was numbed, and it didn't feel any different. My cousin is a dentist and said that's highly unusual. Looking back, it feels like I was billed for a deep cleaning but only given a standard cleaning. After that, every visit turned into the same conversation about "bone loss," which they used to push a laser treatment almost every time. Based on their explanation, I trusted them and agreed to it repeatedly. The final straw was my most recent appointment. Just three months prior, I had been there for a cleaning and a filling, and at that time they told me everything looked fine and never mentioned needing a deep cleaning. Then suddenly, after they canceled my original appointment without notice and moved it, I rearranged my entire day to come in, only to be told I now needed a $1,200 deep cleaning instead of the regular cleaning I had scheduled. This is now the second time they've tried to charge me for a deep cleaning. When I declined due to time, they canceled my appointment entirely and pushed me out another month. At that point, something felt off, so I got a second opinion from a dentist outside of this network. He showed me everything on camera and told me I have no bone loss and do not need a deep cleaning. He also showed me that a filling Roanoke Dental recently did was done incorrectly and now requires a crown. I emailed Roanoke Dental to cancel and explain my concerns. They never responded. Between being pushed into expensive treatments, being told I had conditions I don't have, inconsistent diagnoses within just three months, and receiving questionable dental work, I have completely lost trust. If you're looking for a dentist, I strongly recommend going somewhere independent. Based on my experience, this felt far more like a sales operation than a healthcare provider.

We haven't had any cavities or any procedures done so I can't speak to that but one of my truest tests of dentists are if they jump to a procedure, or if they are more of a "wait and watch" person. Any dentist that will jump to a procedure will make me jump offices. So if that doesn't work out for us I will be sure to update this review! So far I don't love any of the hygienists. I LIKE them all and they are all nice but I expect more (the other office I came from in another state I feel like they went above and beyond and they were just amazing with the kids, over here it doesn't feel that way). BUT we do really love Dr. Whittington. He is patient, gentle and kind and explains everything to both the kid and the parent! My 3 year old isn't the easiest to deal with and she didn't want to sit in the patient's chair so he had her sit on my lap and lie back on a tilted board and she did great that way and he was able to brush, polish and get the fluoride varnish without her being mad! That is a win in my book.
