But I am here to testify, my bruthas and sisters that El Rio is a place of peaceful fairways, of joyful greens, of bountiful birdies. It is a hallowed land, free of sorrowful ball-marks and lowly divots. A place where a golfer with true-heart can be blessed and his spirit filled. Can I get an Aye-Maaaaan!!? For lo and behold... it has been said about El Rio, that the cart paths of the righteous man shall be beset on all sides by inequities of the lazy groundskeepers and tyranny of unkempt cart girls. But I'm here to tell you, there's something else. A world of never ending happiness. You can always see the flag pins...day... or night. And I shall strike thee down with furious vengeance and great anger, those that attempt to poison and destroy the reputation of my brothers and sisters who walk in righteousness upon these putting greens at El Rio. Blessed is he who swings a 7 iron through these valleys that were once thought dark and not well maintained. That is blasphemy. For he who chooses to play here is truly a low score keeper and the finder of lost golf balls. Amen. *Guess I better not quit my day job, as that was a terrible sermon upon the Yelp. But El Rio is actually a pretty good place to play. The staff there is so welcoming, the playing conditions are above par, (you knew there was gonna be a golf pun tossed in somewhere!), and I always sense a feeling of community and camaraderie when I choose to play here. We have scheduled another round next Tuesday with the purchase of a golf pass. The course was watered and the fairways were green. I would rate it a 6/10 for difficulty. At our age we are looking to enjoy golf not to competitively score our lowest scoring round. Many of the par 4's can be reached in regulation. We had a nice experience and that is why we are returning. The golf pass reduces the cost from $70+ to $55. That is a good savings. Plenty of parking. Nice inside restaurant to get a bite to eat or a drink. Water throughout the course. It is hot now in the afternoons in Tucson. Suggest a morning tee time. Enjoy your round.

It will cost you $10 to play 18. You can rent a golf cart for $5 for up to 2 people riding. This course is great for long arms. There isn't a short basket on the whole course. Hence for me, who does not possess a long arm, 3.5 stars. It will take you longer to play than on a dedicated disc golf course if you do not rent a cart. There really are not many obstacles for long arm throwers. Yes, there are trees, but there are fairways, and this course is excellent for honing your fairway drives. There is a water hazard for two of the baskets and if your disc lands in the drink, you can go to the clubhouse, plunk down a deposit, and use the golden retriever (which is actually white, in this case). The club forbids anyone from going into the water, so please respect that. A plus is that there is grass. The website shows pictures of beautiful green grass, but it isn't quite that spectacular. And there still is some dirt around. There is a club house so you can buy drinks and snacks. There is a water fountain to fill up your H2O bottle. And there are clean restrooms. One of the rules that the local disc club has for this course is that all the greens are Out of Bounds (OB). I'm sure they have a good reason. I haven't researched it on the PDGA site, but maybe there is a universal rule for it. I think it is silly. That means that for just about every basket on this course, there is an OB, right by the basket. It's not like disc golfers are going to ruin the greens by walking on it or throwing from it. There are not going to be drives but putts made from a green. So I think it is a silly rule. They hold tournaments here, so the local disc-ers must like it. I'm sure that there are plenty of disc golfers that would give this 4 or even 5 stars. A couple of my friends would. I just don't like paying to play. I don't like getting behind ball golfers and having to wait as it takes them longer to play the hole than it does for us to play the basket. The ball golfers are respectful and friendly, don't get me wrong, I just don't like sharing a course with them. Even my long arm buddies don't get too many birdies on this course: I don't get any. There are a couple of baskets where it might be possible and I've come close, just missing my medium or long putt. My recommendation is to give it a try. Maybe you will like it way more than I enjoy it. If you are a disc golfer in Tucson, you have to try it at least once.

While walking up, the facilities did not look like much but don't let that fool you. I was very impressed by the condition of this course. From tee box to greens, all were well manicured and kept up. I was very impressed on how the greens rolled. Almost every fairway on the front nine all looked great. I was also impressed with the sand traps. It had been a minute since I've played a course with sand that wasn't super hard. I enjoyed playing here so much, I came back a second day to play nine holes again. The first day I walked and it was only $28. The next day I rode and it was only seven dollars more. The gentleman in the pro shop was extremely courteous and got me right out to play. I did not take advantage of their practice facilities, but I saw a nice putting green and a very cool place to practice your short game with lots of room to hit balls further than most areas like that. They also had their own driving range a little separate from the course. The only negative I could find was the condition of the cart path on a lot of holes, but I'm sure that that's just due to desert heat. The cart did not offer GPS, but with so many apps that do, that's not a detractor for me anymore. Not only would I recommend this place for an inexpensive round of golf, but if I'm in the area, I would definitely come back.

It is immaculately groomed, fairways are lush, putting surfaces generally are really nice. I love the way the staff treats the patrons here. They can be counted on to share a caring mindset, a supportive energy, a splash of playfulness--and it will all be wrapped up in a blanket of the highest levels of professionalism. Playing off of lush grass always makes for a nice day of golf as it is easier to hit from. The course is pretty challenging for me, as any time I need to carry over water, or in this case, desert it gets in my head and I tend to not hit well. But this course is still beautiful and fun to play.
