You start with a flat piece of clay and you stamp it
Magda C.

I took my Husband for a Friday Date Night event at the Core Clay and we both had so much fun! We went on Feb 15, so it doubled as a Valentine's night! Nikki was our Teacher and Instructor and she was super cool and patient. I should say that we bought a CincySavers and did not know what to expect, but the titel of the coupon suggested something with wheel throwing. The Friday Date Nights are not for wheel throwing, though, as it is very difficult and requires more lessons. When we came with our drinks (BYOB) Nikki welcomed us and gave us some aprons. There was one more couple with us and it turned out we were gonna make some vases. The rectangle of clay was gleaming at us and we could decorate it with many different stamps. We then rolled it, attached the bottom and voilla! Simple as it sounds, it took 2h or more, because it is not as easy as it seems :) I could not believe how relaxing this was. When you are working with hands and focus on a project, it takes you away from all the other problems and you can exercise your creative muscle. Even when you think you have no talent, it is super easy and the glaze is very forgiving and makes everything look much better in the end! My Husband got so much into it that he asked to make a beer stein with a handle instead of the vade and Nikki helped him create one! FYI: the clay needs 3-4 weeks to dry and then it is glazed, so you will not be able to pick it up the same night. I cannot wait to pick up my vase, it will be a great reminder of the fun Valentine's evening and a great addition on my book shelf. Highly recommend one of the classes at Clay Core for an outside-of-the-box evening.

My whirlwind trip to Cincy for NCECA pottery convention also included me hitting up some local…read moregalleries and participating in show receptions. I was enthralled walking into this space and the gallery displays were phenomenal! One of my favorite artists was actually there talking about her pieces- and it is always wonderful to meet the artist behind exhibited pieces! She made wonderful sculptures of busts and heads with what I would call brain chaos sprouting out of the tops of the heads. For me- I love art that sparks an emotional response, is something relatable, or something that just sparks my curiosity and imagination. There were plenty of other artists work there too and I loved several different pieces. On this particular evening I was sprinting through town hitting up several galleries- but this was my first stop and made a huge impression on me. The space itself is also wonderful. We were only allowed access to the downstairs gallery, I assume classrooms were upstairs or downstairs (or both) and I could see there were other exhibits, but those were closed. Cincinnati really embraced the NCECA pottery crowd and made sure to have as many exhibits across town as possible!

The Art Academy has come a really long way in the past few years. They used to be located in Mt…read more Adams but recently purchased a larger building in Over-the-Rhine and have moved everything downtown. It's a beautiful building on Jackson Street that was re-done to fit the style of the Art Academy. Inside there is a sprawling atrium that looks up all the floors around the staircases. There is gallery space all over the building and chances are there is some show up. Right now the SOS Political art show is hung up as well as the Visual Fringe Gallery for the Fringe Festival. The Art Academy generously donates a classroom to the Fringe Festival as well for it's use for a few plays and it's a great space for them! The Art Academy unfortunately had a rapid decrease in enrollment since their move downtown, which was to be expected. However, with the revitalization of the gateway quarter (as it's now being called) things should be looking up for them. If you are looking for a great art school for all aspects of visual art and design, this is the place to go!

I'm continually impressed by the growth of all her students (with widely varying levels of experience) in a variety of mediums (acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pencil...) and techniques. I had absolutely no art experience and am amazed at the art I've created with her. She knows her stuff - she has taught at the college level, and her awesome paintings hang around. And you can't beat the price for her 2-hour classes with individual attention. One caveat: if you need structure, this probably isn't for you. Everyone is working on their own project and their is no strict "syllabus" to work through. I've come to really enjoy that

Our Cincinnati art classes are offered after school, evenings, and weekends with ongoing registration. We specialize in art lessons, drawing lessons, painting classes, painting lessons, perspective training, and mastery of color in our Anderson Township studio near Mt. Washington on the East side of Cincinnati, Ohio. Using a step-by-step method, students of all ages are taught basic drawing and painting skills which result in art work that is both realistic, attractive, and worth of showing. Our art students experience the excitement and fulfillment of creating art as they are taught on an individualized basis according to their personal skills and abilities. Each student moves ahead at his or her own pace. This enables our students to attain the artistic "tools" they need to create art for the rest of their lives. Our goal is to make art lessons accessible and affordable and we believe that a strong foundation of real hands-on skills will enable students to eventually follow any artistic path they choose. The student explores drawing and painting mediums such as charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, pencil, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, and oils in a creative and fun environment. These are real art lessons. We teach drawing and painting skills: perspective, composition, value, line, form, color, and style.

The ceremony was held upstairs - another cool room with the two pianos, theater-style seats and dark wood. I think the venue has a lot of cool details to offer - and my bride said they were SUPER flexible and very affordable. They were able to bring in their own caterer - a big plus, since some venues force you to use one of their preferred caterers. I have added some photos from the wedding. If you are thinking of having your wedding and/or reception here and are working within a smaller budget, then I definitely think you'll be happy with the location and what they offer.

We decided to rent some bar height tables and use some of the rounds supplied by the center. This allowed us to have more of a cocktail party vibe and gave more space for dancing. Our ceremony was held at the city gazebo just across the street (on other side of new Distassi venue). The upstairs sanctuary at Wyoming Arts was our backup location for the ceremony. I uploaded one picture of our ceremony at the gazebo. The photo uploaded by Alex S. is from our reception. The shot is of the guests coming through the front entrance. My husband and I stood on the front porch for our processional to welcome the guests. We were very pleased and everyone enjoyed themselves at our event!
