The Corbet Arms has been re-opened for four weeks. There's a bar with a big television which was showing football when I passed through. There's a large deck for those who enjoy looking at Shrewsbury over the Severn and the A49 whilst indulging in passive smoking. The lounge area, however, whilst being a bit too open, is fine.
A wide range of lagers is partially compensated by three slightly less prominent hand pulls London Pride, Charles Wells' Bombardier and Beowulf's Hurricane. An order for a spritzer resulted in an excellent large glass of sauvignon blanc and, for once, no question about do you want soda or lemonade always a bad start to a drinking experience.
We had been warned by friends that the steak and kidney pudding sells out early and it had. Starters of prawn & crayfish cocktail, goats cheese wontons and ham hock terrine were all pronounced tasty and hearty and would suffice for some as a light lunch. The mains of beer-battered haddock, red Thai chicken curry and a substitute steak and kidney pie were most satisfactory. The service was good and the price came out at just over £20 per head.
