Lots of old pub features combined with a few modern ones confused me when forming my initial impression of the Boathouse. I know it would be a hit in the summer with its location on the banks of the Severn, but this was very much not that time of year. I was a bit indifferent in the end, but my half of Shropshire Lad was alright and it was only one of four local beers to sample. read more

In a word, this place is "idyllic". The venue emotes thoughts of English pubs in a time long lost. When you walk in your olfactory senses are greeted with Yorkshire pudding and other authentic English dishes. The bar serves pints of lager and pints of cider. There is a new world addition of glasses of wine. The Boathouse sits on the River Severn, which is the longest river in England. From the right perch you can spy people walking along the river or enjoying the plush fields of the park across the banks. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. If you venture to the Midlands, then make a point of stopping here and taking in some old world charm with a glass of mulled wine or a pint. read more

The Boathouse is one of the few pubs in Shrewsbury, a town centre almost surrounded by the River Severn, to actually have a river frontage. An attractive seating area gives great views over The Quarry and the wildfowl on the water. The pub itself serves decent beer but is a little rough-and-ready. Good pub, particularly excellent in the summer. Is a good place to relax next to the river or pop into after a day in the quarry, especially if they are having a barbeque. The staff are friendly, real ales are served, drinks are priced reasonably and the menu is what you would expect in a pub but of higher quality than most. Well worth a visit read more

Came here for lunch after a very fraught journey from Nottingham! Fortunately, it was pleasant and the food was quite good but as I was driving, I can't comment on the beer. I had Steak and Kidney pud along with two of my companions. I was a little put out to see my frozen pud wend it's way from outside (presumably the freezer!) all the way across the pub to be cooked. It would have been nicer to have had some winter veg with it rather than the totally unimaginative peas and chips!! The view however really makes up for it and I can see how lovely it would be in Summer, sitting on the terrace. Unfortunately the staff have still not had their smiling training day! Despite recent gastro renovations, this pub is still has loads of charm, set in an amazing location over looking the river Severn. The riverside beer garden is an ideal summer haunt (busy on weekends!) Local beers on tap (Salopian Brewery, Woods Brewery) make it a great pub for real ale enthusiasts. The menu is typical of many modern British pubs with gastro pub leanings. They host a Carvery on Sundays and barbeques in the summer. read more

The two stars I award to this place are purely for the two lovely waitresses who attended our party of five last Saturday. They were most polite and very helpful. The menu: A thin scrappy sheet of photocopied paper with the menu laid out in very small type and the dishes not described atall well. Not a photo or picture of any of the dishes to be found anywhere. Just as well, because had they been pictures of the 5 different dishes we had, I'd have walked out before ordering. The food: I'd like to know who devised the menus and decided on the size of the portions. Both are rubbish. £11 for a horrible artificially coloured yellow soft bread roll with about 100gms of shredded hot pork in a spicy sauce that was a cross between what tasted like coronation chicken and a spicy tomato pasta sauce, served on a block of wood with a desertpoon full of coleslaw and red cabbage, a very small cheesy thing and an old washed out baked bean tin containing fries. If this is the boathouses attempt at up market nouveau cuisine, they've failed abysmally. Mixed starter platter for sharing was very small and way overpriced at £14 The mixed grill with a steak lamb chops etc was quite good but not worth £18 The fish dish was nearly all batter and totally flavourless. I used to frequent the boathouse a lot before the refurbishments, and loved their reasonably priced pub grub. The stuff they are serving up now is made of inferior quality raw materials, and the boathouse has now become nothing more than a somewhat pretentious glorified burger house, with a very limited choice of meals, none of which are very tasty.. The staff were worked off their feet on this busy weekend. A full compliment of kitchen staff and extra bar staff would not have gone amiss. Two bar staff with a pub full of customers is not good. And I think there were only 2 staff in the kitchen. It is my opinion that this is the fault of money grabbing management. The high prices plus inadequate staffing levels reflect that we, the customers are paying for the refurbishments, which I might add were not very attractive and seating not very comfortable. The staff were all lovely. Will I be going back?. Not in a month of Sundays. Not even for a beer, which is also overpriced. read more

Well its been transformed from the old vintage style place it was not sure its an improvement . Still got a selection of real ale but not best quality . Great place to watch the river go by though . read more

12.09.18- Marvellous few hours spent with my family. Good food in splendid surroundings together with attentive and pleasant staff who could not have helped my sister in law who unfortunately is wheelchair bound any more than they did. Highly recommended, we will definitely return. read more

Shrewsbury being on the river should have more places like the boathouse. With a large beer terrace that leads down to the water you got to love it. They stock the usual bar plus some nice real ales to sip on in the sun. On a hot day this place is heaving and there is a cracking vibe around. My only negative would be for goodness sake bar staff smile once in a while! read more
