This free public beach west of Bradenton at Manatee County is a hidden gem. The parking lot is huge and free and we can walk directly to the beach. There are café, washing area, air conditioned restroom ,lifeguard, beach chair and umbrella rental. The beach sand are white, fine and soft with seashells. The water was shallow, clear, green, see through the bottom, not so wavy. It is suitable for beginner swimmers. The beach was not surrounded by high condo buildings, hotels or resorts. So it got less tourists and not very crowded. This is such a beautiful, peaceful, quiet beach. It's only 1 hour drive from my house. I should come back more often. Next time I will bring snorkel gear to see the fishes and mosquito repellent. The summertime could be buggy. I enjoyed my weekend morning beach time at coquina beach.

Best beach and parking lot on the whole island!! The walkways are well maintained. There are bathrooms and playground. They have picnic tables in the shade. Only saw one strange looking person sleeping oddly.

My fiancé and I wanted a cute little beach town vacay and this was the perfect find. We really enjoyed the beach here and the cafe. It's such a peaceful, clean, and stunning beach. We can't wait to go back and have a beautiful time again!

Decided to come here after seeing the crowd at Anna Maria island beach. We really lucked out with a prime parking spot- pay to park. It's really clean, not as crowded as Anna Maria, and super soft sand. The views are gorgeous. The area is pretty large so there's enough room to not feel on top one another. Quite a bit of food options nearby for takeaway.

I really liked this beach. It's clean and was quiet when I was there. It's a pretty big beach, so there's definitely room to spread out. White sands and clear water. Parking is free and the lot is very big. They also have the stations to rinse off, which is always nice. There are some picnic tables as well. I would definitely visit this beach again.

Beautiful beach with plenty of free parking (key for this area). Beautiful water, sand and sunsets. There's also food available to purchase and restrooms. Easier to get in and out than Anna Maria. My new favorite beach in this area.

It's another place to go for a quieter beach day in the sun. A walk along the beach will provide for some great shelling, with the chance for shell collectors to find both shells and shark teeth and discover mini coves created by the waves along the coastline. We were there early in the morning like 8 AM, so soothing experience. Tons of free parking, lots of amenities, and a roomy beach with a large expanse of silky, white sand. White silky sand adorns this Gulf beach. It is more compact than Siesta Key or Clearwater Beach, so it is great for walking. It really is beautiful against the water and blue sky of Florida. There is nothing better than taking long, romantic walks along the beach. If you get hungry Coquina Beach has a beachfront cafe and you can even order breakfast. Otherwise enjoy salads, burgers, chicken tenders, fish tacos, and more. What makes Coquina Beach so special is that it has a great combination of mixed activities very close together, and unlike other Florida Beaches and popular areas, it isn't as crowded during most of the year! some of the many popular water spots you can try in and around Coquina Beach and the greater Anna Maria Island (like Jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, Scuba diving, fishing, etc..) Parking: Free, and even space for RV's. The other bonus is there is not a long haul to the shore from the parking lot. Just grab your beach gear and go Restroom: Yes Changing Room: Nope Shower: yes

It was very beautiful and they are cleaning as best they can after the hurricanes!! Very lovely beach and good amount of parking and walking space.

Really soft, white sand beach with a beachside market three days of the week. The parking is free. The beach is well maintained and guarded. This is a little closer to Bradenton, so it was nice for a change of scenery but not the closest beach for us.

Beautiful public beach with powdery white sand on the Gulf of Mexico. It has a nice walkway with huge pine trees that provide shade. Hugh parking lot great place for families.

What a terrific beach! I love this place so much! My first time I went on a saturday around 1145 and was worried there wouldn't be parking, but there are two huge lots and there was more than enough space even at a super busy time, plus it was completely free! When going to the beach the parking situation is a big deciding factor for me, so Coquina has it ideal! At the main area there are bathrooms, showers to rinse off, a changing station and even a cute cafe with outdoor seating right on the beach, so if you don't bring snacks you have a quick option. There are also lifeguard shacks all along the beach, and a nice walking path right before the beach which I took a picture of. Every Saturday (or is it Sunday? I can't quite remember) on the path there is a quaint and lovely farmers market that goes on for most of the day. I absolutely love farmers markets and the fact that this one is literally right on the beach only adds to the flair. On the beach itself the sand is just so fluffy and soft, it's like walking on silk, and the water is beautifully clear, turquoise-y, no seaweed or rocks on the floor so it's nice swimming around and standing in the water. Bradenton Beach and downtown is literally right up the street as well, with some super cute shops and cool places to eat, so the location is just great! There's also a free trolley that stops and you can catch a ride to a bunch of different places, including all the way up to the pier on Anna Maria Island. This place has all the details you could possibly want or need for a beach getaway! Definitely give Coquina a try if you haven't before!

The water was absolutely beautiful! It wasn't too cold and it was clear. I normally dip my feet and that's all. But I couldn't help but getting back in the water time and time again here. It wasn't over crowded, moderately spaced and it made the perfect beach day!

Lots of parking options. Park near the walking trails, by the snack bar,or way south by the point/channel. I prefer midway close enough to the snack bar, restroom, walkway but away from the channel...too much boat fuel there. Weekend market is fun to browse. Plenty of free parking and shade for your car. Don't forget your sunscreen!

I loved how quiet the beach was compared to Anna Maria and the free parking made it even better.

The waves were minimal, and there were so many fish swimming around us the whole time! I counted three different schooling fish species and a few crabs, which were unusually easy to spot because of how crystal clear the water is. I do want to note that we couldn't fins any public trash cans, showers, and bathrooms. It ended up wasting our water bottle reserves and probably led to spending more money at businesses that had these amenities than we would've otherwise. Options for surrounding businesses are limited and pricey. For instance, the only pizza place within walking distance is great if you can afford $20+ average-sized pies. There's also only one beachside bar along this stretch of beach access that has a long wait time and doesn't list cocktail prices on their menu. Parking is slim, but a lot of it is free if you park on gravel roadsides. Since it has always been extremely windy when I've visited, I definitely suggest firmly anchoring any tents or umbrellas. Also bring materials to hold down blankets and towels. They don't allow alcohol on these beaches, so also keep that in mind when packing your coolers. All in all, this beach is a must-see!

Beer Can Island is right across from Coquina beach and is located on Longboat pass which is a busy channel for boaters coming in and out so it's a good spot to see a lot of boats going by. This popular white sand beach has crystal clear blue waters on sunny days, was formed by tidal currents, and offers a beautiful undeveloped shoreline which is a popular stop for boaters. Over time, mother nature has eroded portions of the beach uprooting many of the Australian pine trees that once stood on the shore. The huge tree trunks and roots give the beach a real exotic feel and create an amazing landscape of fallen and weathered wood. A lot of people come to Beer Can Island by boat. There are no formal docking spots, but the shallow sandy water makes it a great spot to drop anchor and come ashore for a fun sunny day! If you're not coming by boat, you can take North Shore Road until you see signs for the beach, park, and walk north along the beach. You'll know when you're getting close by the driftwood becoming more and more plentiful on the shore. I saw a beached huge 10 foot lemon head shark and got some shark teeth from here! Although Beer Can Island is more secluded than some of the other area beaches, it does get busier on the weekends with all the boaters anchored up! All of the trees close to shore make this the perfect place to bring your hammock and lounge out! We saw a number of people who had strung their hammocks across two trees! Note, since this is a secluded island, there are no bathrooms or showers here.

Just keep two things in mind: - A lot of people like to come here to get drunk and high since it is reserved. Hence the name. Can sometimes get annoying and a little trashy. But recently local police have been cracking down a little on it. - The water on the side with the channel can be a little rough and unpredictable, so just be a little careful.
