I can't say enough good things about my experience at Copperfish! The selection of books is great and separated by genre. Kelli was so kind and helpful sharing book recommendations!

The mural at the entrance of Copperfish Books is gorgeous! A must-see for any bookworm, selfie taker or not.

I wanted to check this book store out for the longest time because my friend worked there, and was always raving about it. She's as serious about books as I am, so I had to see what this place was all about. I'm happy to report that the parking was easy. I found a spot right in front of the store. Coming from Miami where it can be a real pain, that was a relief. Before you walk in, the outside of the building has this beautiful mural along the walls and entrance. I'd have to say it was the prettiest book store I've seen so far. When I went, my friend was working, and she gave me an unofficial tour of the place. After nosing through the aisles, I'm happy to say that it has a fantastic selection of books, both new and used! In the back, they had two carts of used/discount books where I found a sweet hardcover copy of Alex Haley's "Roots." The used/discount books were super affordable. The other section that I enjoyed was the local author section. I ended up purchasing a copy of Scott Marlowe's "The Cryptid Creatures of Florida" because I love funky Florida stories. As a stationary nerd, I very much enjoyed the greeting card section. Whoever is picking the cards, keep doing what you're doing! I wish there was a Copperfish Books in Miami. It was super mellow, full of good stuff, and a great place to find your next good read. If you live nearby or are passing by like I was, I highly recommend you take advantage and visit. I'd say it's FL's little literary jewel.

We have been trying to get here to check out this little local book shop. I first heard of them…read morefrom a favorite author of mine. She writes mystery books and the character lives on the island. Love it! She was doing a book signing and I was not going to be able to go. I was able to order a book from them and have the author sign it. That was about 2 years ago and we have been fans ever since. They were so incredibly polite and helpful. We missed coming here last year because of their hours. It is located on an island so they are not open super late. This is a cute little bookstore with different books, little trinkets and souvenirs to purchase. From my understanding they also do many events with different authors. We visited and were actually able to speak with the owner. She was so sweet, actually straightening from a previous nights event. She talked to us for a bit, got to know us and recommended us to her favorite authors. We wanted local books or books written about Sanibel and Captiva. She only had a few but of course we were able to find some we liked. I would highly recommend stopping here if you need a book while on vacation. If I lived in this area, this would be my local shopping place for books. It is always better to buy local. My only reason for a 4 is there was not a huge selection of local books and the ones she did have, she did not have the whole series. There was pretty much one of each as well, so my sister and I could not each get one. But again, I understand, its a small island. I just wish there was more and more copies. Overall though, we will stop in each year and check it out, see what's new and look for any treasures we can find. The fact that they are independent and do not charge more for a book is also really great. Its a good value for us to buy from a local shop as opposed to a mass retailer. You should definitely check it out.

This place has a lot going for it, so I'm giving five stars. There are a couple areas where they…read morecould make it better. And they do have one really negative thing tainting their reputation among decent folk, but I'll leave that nightmare for last. First, not all Barnes & Nobles have nice chairs in which you can sit. Most seem to rely too much on the really uncomfortable cafe seating items and fixtures. I spend a lot of time in bookstores, and a place to sit for a few moments that is actually comfortable is a real benefit. Second, all experiences with the staff here have been positive. They seem, from what I've experienced, like pleasant and smart people. I like this place a lot, but here are some suggestions for improvements: 1. It seems like they could fit more books in this place without making it feel cramped. Or add some more lovely chairs. There are areas that seem rather empty or underused. 2. If they did put in a set of bookshelves in the "Poetry, Drama, Literary Criticism" section, they would actually have room for books on literary criticism, of which there seem to be none at the moment. Poetry? Yes. Drama? Yes. Literary criticism? Not really. 3. This nightmare aspect is not unique to this store. It seems that all the Barnes & Noble pay points in the cafes put up a "tip" screen when you go to pay that deliberately makes it almost impossible to push the "no tip" option. This is called a "dark pattern" and is on the point of being illegal in the EU and other decent parts of the world. It should be illegal here, too, and whatever third-rate MBA at Barnes & Noble convinced their superiors this was a good idea should be sent back to the asylum from which they escaped. Scientists call this type of dark pattern "a coercive tipping interface, in which accepting a tip requires one tap, while declining requires a five-second hard press." It's aggressive, tacky and should be condemned by all moral persons. Elsewhere on Yelp I have complained that in no civilized society does anyone ever ASK for a tip; using a machine proxy to do so does not change that fact. And using an aggressive machine proxy just makes good people angry. It's a bad idea all around.

They have a whole Starbucks cafe off to the side, which is always a lovely combo. Coffee & books? Yep, I'm there. Along with a wide sprawl of book genres, they have a lego section, puzzles and other board games, toys and fun things for the kiddos, and so much more. We spent probably close to an hour just walking around in here and enjoying it all, and it could've been even longer. The prices are still a little higher than is reasonable in my mind, but you have to expect that coming to a Barnes & Noble. They did have a few sales here when I came, though, and one was on some collector Harry Potter books which I couldn't resist. This is a great addition to the University Town Center area.
