I went to this school from fourth to sixth grade. I can't express how horrible this environment is. I was called homophobic slurs constantly, and bullied relentlessly. I was sexually abused by one of my peers, which I am still in intensive therapy for. This was years ago. I do not recommend this school. The toxic waste atmosphere that clouds this school will kill your child from the inside out. read more

Students are made to believe that at any time they could come to the principle and vice principle to tell them what is going on in the public areas but nothing is addressed and then those kids are targeted even more. Our oldest started at Copper Ridge in preschool 15 years ago. We have had multiple kids there every year since. I previously served as Treasurer on their PTO and have vigorously supported the school, the teachers, and the kids. This year one of our kids needed extra support. In September we asked to review the IEP, the results of which these idiots will be discussing with us on May 29 - the second to last day of school. After their school psychologist disappeared, Principal Slover earnestly told us "I assure you [child] is on my priority list and that he won't fall through the cracks." That was in November when we should have been wrapping this up. Here's the bottom line: today's Copper Ridge is nothing like the Copper Ridge our kids first attended. The good news is SUSD sends a new Principal every year so there's hope that our 17th and final year at Copper Ridge will be better than this one. To anyone interested in open enrollment, don't. You have too many other Charter school opportunities to waste your time driving your kids to CRS. read more

The teachers seem to be happy and experienced. The teachers are well paid in this district compared to others - I believe I just read that they average teacher is paid $55k per year + pension+health+15 weeks of paid vacation + the average teacher nationally takes 21 sick days too, seems like a really good job! That's especially amazing considering the average 4 year college grad working an average of 47 hours a week, 50 weeks a year makes only $48k without a pension!! Somehow the teachers know how to motivate kids at this school, either that or my son was just ready to start making an effort. The PTO is VERY good, super involved, super helpful, super "on-it". The athletic program has much to be desired, just not organized. We paid the $60 fee to register our athlete and they didn't even bother to email us that basketball tryouts were starting! You would think that by paying a fee and registering for basketball that they would reach out to notify you. Nope, guess you just have to know to check the school website! We finally left the school after 1 semester. Vaping, drugs, in general the kids are not well behaved, the girls wear such short skirts and shorts sometimes you can see their underwear (I'm not kidding!!). My 10 year old daughter was exposed to porn and drugs there, when we brought it to the attention of the principal, nothing happened to the perp. This is the main reason we left, if you bring a very serious matter to the principal and nothing is done, it's a clear sign that this place is not for us! read more

Terrible school. There's not only bullying between the kids and a lot of mean kids, there are teachers bullying too, in elementary school the 3rd. grade teacher was yelling to the kids, in 4th grade Miss Dineff is even worse, doing an abuse of power and humiliation as a technique to control the kids, kids crying in the morning that they don't want to enter the school. They are not even good teachers, kids are not learning good, the motivation of learning gets affected. The academic level is really bad. The principal just answers nice emails but denied everything and says is just a perception, he's not doing nothing good for the school or the kids, he's just another principal warning up the seat. read more

I just want to say that I'm sorry that we didn't put our daughter in here sooner! Our older son attended here years ago, but we had moved since then and the younger ones went to PV. I have to say that it's even better now than it was then! I have never met a nicer Principal, Counselor, Front Office Staff, Security, Nurse, PTO President and her Teachers, WOW... they have shown us to have the biggest hearts! This school is TRASH my daughter came home from school today in DISGUSTING Cacki shorts. She was dress coded for her skirt being to short. I believe there is a favoritisms at this school because several other kids were wearing the same exact skirt! She went to the nurses office and had to wear cacki shorts and when she got back to class everyone laughed at her and the teacher just sat there LIKE I thought there was a no bullying policy but I guess not!!! She is already ugly the shorts just make her even UGliEr. AND she missed time to review her quiz she was about to take. SMHH this school needs to focus on education rather the uniform. Our pre-k student is loving her new school! Her teachers are very kind, caring and attentive. My daughter is coming home excited to talk about her day and what she is learning. The new principal is sharp and very focused on making Copper Ridge a safe and academic environment. The PTO was tight, they were on top of everything, very impressive. My husband and I feel confident that our daughter will have a great experience at this school all year the way through 8th grade, despite some of the drama that the school has endured in the past. read more

Our experience with Copper Ridge has been excellent. We are in the third quarter of our son's Kindergarten year and couldn't be happier with the school, the curriculum, the staff and his wonderful teacher, Ms. Sacks. His academic development has soared under the caring guidance of his teacher. The class size is small so each child gets plenty of individual attention. I like that the school has a uniform dress code. The kids have so much fun and engagement too with the Book Fair, holiday celebrations and sports events. We look forward to our years ahead at Copper Ridge and highly recommend it! read more

Cooper Ridge is a great neighborhood school My daughter was at Scottsdale Prep and the academics were so hard and she also had hours of homework a night. We switched over in mid year and she finally felt like she really belonged She easily made friends and she now has time to do other things after school instead of doing homework The school made my daughters transition go so smoothly Great School!!! read more

I can't say enough good things about this school! I moved here from the south and was a little nervous about my daughter starting school here since there were so many good schools to choose from and I wasn't sure I was making the right choice. My daughter had attended a private school before so I was hoping to find a similar school. My daughter has attended Cooper Ridge since Kindergarten and we have been so happy we chose to come to this school!! My daughter's Kindergarden teacher was Ms. Johnson and she was such a sweet Kindergarden teacher and the kids absolutely love her. She is patient with the children and she taught my daughter so much in just one year! My daughter is now in 4th grade at this school and has Ms. Dineff. She is such a great teacher, she runs a tight ship and keeps all the kids on task; I mean you have to at this age. Ms. Dineff keeps the parents up dated with many emails so the parents always know what is going on in the classroom. They use all kinds of technology in the classroom and do so many projects. Ms. Dineff is such a hard worker, we just love her!! They use all kinds of technology in the classroom and do so many projects. The front office staff Barb Leutzinger, Julie Stafford, and Christie Stapleton are very friendly and so helpful! They keep the school so organized! I have 2 kids at Copper Ridge who have been attending for 5 years now. My son is in 5th grade now and my daughter is in 6th. The teachers we've had at this school are wonderful! Going into middle school can be a stressful change, but it is very evident that the CRS 6th grade team of teachers care so much about these kids. The campus is secure too and you cannot get on to the campus during the day without checking in through the office and going through a locked door. The PTO is incredibly involved and supportive They do so much to support CRS. read more

This is a wonderful school...if you are ok with sending your child to school to sit and watch movies all day! I cannot even count the number of movies that were shown in class in the short time my child attended this 'school.' In addition, during instruction time, Students sit in the back of the class and watch Netflix and March Madness on their phones. There is zero leadership! The principal is completely out of touch with what is going on in her own building. I have called several times during the school year to speak to her about my concerns and I have NEVER received a call back! There is rampant drug use in the bathrooms as well as outdoors at recess. I realize that there will always be drugs in schools but there is NO effort made whatsoever to curtail it. Recently, when I went to pick up my child from school, I saw 3 middle school girls beating the crap out of each other on the playground. When I ran to report it to security, I was told, 'you wouldn't believe what goes on at this school.' No one went to break up the fight...eventually they stopped on their own. I am a former teacher as well and I can assure you that you do not want to send your child to this school! I sincerely cannot tell you how strongly I regret sending my children to this school. read more

We love Copper Ridge! We have 3 kids and have been at the school for 10 years. The teachers care so much for the kids! Course work is adequate for grade levels. We also love the community aspect of going to a neighborhood school...and would recommend Copper Ridge to anyone! read more

We just moved to the area from California and decided to send our kids to our home school, Copper Ridge. We couldn't be happier with the school, the friends our kids have made, and the staff. Our kids love the school and we've been more than happy with the academics that they receive. They also receive more extras such as art, music, PE and computer lab than they did in our school in California. read more

This was by far the worst school I have toured in Scottsdale. The children walk around in flip flops and house slippers yes house slippers and no one corrects this. What happened to appropriate attire ? So we go on a tour with a guidance counselor which used a student as an example how they should look like mind you her skirt was so short that her butt cheeks where showing when she walked and don't forget she had flip flops on and when another parent pointed out how short the skirt was the guidance counselor agreed I asked her to correct it she said she wouldn't do it in front of us and when I asked why not she said " I wouldn't want to embarrass her in front of parents " I understand but it you choose her to represent the dress code don't you think you should correct her ? Anyways that was just one of the things there bullying policy it seems like they don't really in force it they just talk to the kids and after it gets bad then they inform the parents awful system. The kids behavior was despicable the way they treated each other and the way they spoke with each other was awful and here is the icing on the cake I left the tour 15 minutes in and as I passed the front office what do I see I see a staff member with his feet up on the desk.we as parents build the foundation for our kids and there atmosphere is what they become despicable school. read more

Cons: Teachers are not approachable and do not communicate with parents - except to ask for money and/or donations. Homework is full of time consuming and pointless busy work. Most of which, for the younger grades at least, is not even checked or seen by the teacher, but rather by a parent volunteer. Bullying and inappropriate behavior abounds. Educational pace is slow and not very challenging. Pros: Bus is convenient. Inexpensive school lunch. Nice uniform policy. Lots of parties. read more

Who are these weirdo parents complaining about short skirts and flip flops like these are the only kids in the world who are interested in looking good and keeping up with fashion? Flip flops in 110 degree weather is just normal in Arizona. And bullying happens in every school -- and I mean EVERY school. I know a 6 year old Kindergartener at one of the charter schools who was called fat. Yes, there are kindergarten bullies at charter schools, and there is even less of a process for dealing with it--it's either put up or go somewhere else. Copper Ridge has some of the smallest class sizes with the most individual attention, and tons of specials for kids to explore interests. In K there is music, art, computer lab, and PE on top of two daily recesses. And when it is hotter than 100 degrees, they are not allowed to go outside for recess or PE so the outside time is consolidated and the kids watch a movie instead. That's the price we pay for living in the desert. I'll take movies over heat stroke. And it's the most beautiful campus. I couldn't imagine sending my kids to a school that looks like an office building or cement prison without windows and bullet proof glass everywhere. In my experience the kids are wonderful with involved parents and responsive teachers and administration that responds personally to emails. Some people won't be happy here, sure, but that's the case with every school. read more

Copper Ridge has been a great fit for my three kids! We have had some great, dedicated teachers who have made their learning experience very enjoyable. Coursework is adequate per grade level and there are also enrichment and gifted opportunities available. We really enjoy the community aspect, strong parent involvement, and strong PTO with lots of opportunities to be involved. Copper Ridge gets my vote! read more
