I came to pick up my daughter for a Drs appointment and was told I was not allowed to pick her up after 2:45. It was 2:47! Not only that, is it even legal to hold a child over a parents wishes? I should be able to pick up my child at any time without being treated like crap. Also the front desk receptionist was extremely rude and argumentative. Are they going to reimburse me for the cancellation fee I am now incurring at her drs office? I'm appalled! read more

Like always there is a pros and cons to the school. There are great teachers who actually care about their students and work with them if they have a need to help better understand the curriculum. Teachers like Ms.Anderson, Ms. Katz, Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Tarter, Mr. T, and Ms. Esper, they are the best teachers that I have seen by far since 2019. The biggest issue in the school is the cliche got money type of attitude. This is what tends to be detrimental to the kids or the experience at the school. However they do have some programs that actually show that they do care about the community and their students. The biggest complaint I've had at the school by far has been the parking lot. I have seen multiple accidents in the parking lot because parents are not paying attention when pulling out of parking spaces or trying to get out of the parking lot in general. The school has had it observed several times and it's the best flow that they have had in the district but they're still issues that need to be addressed. It does help that they have officers who are here throughout the day during that time to actually direct the traffic as well as the school resource officers. read more

Way too much homework for elementary. Principal is unresponsive through email if she does not agree with you. Mr. Cunningham is a bright spot. He responded to me, and was willing to talk about our disagreements. My son enjoyed him for math. NEW KIDS BEWARE!!! My daughter was bullied in school until she finally got to Cocopah (however you spell it). I was told by the office I could walk my kids to class on the first day because he didn't know where to go. The teachers didn't like that, and were really rude saying "You're not supposed to be in here". Calm down, it's the first day of school. I'm a 4th grade teacher. My family has been involved in many school. This one has been the worst for a new kid. read more

The teachers are really good, loving and caring, but I agree with other comments that the staff is not only rude, but CRUEL to children, starting by the principal. I don't feel it's a great community either. I wish the SUSD authorities investigated a little more how children are discriminated and mistreated. read more

Fantastic! Sequoya Elementary School is a public school, part of the Scottsdale Unified School District. After attending Sequoya, students feed into Cocopah Middle School and eventually the highly regarded Chaparral High School. Sequoya is a wonderful school with talented teachers, involved parents and a demographically strong and diverse student body. No reason for considering a charter school if you live in this area. read more

Pretty surprised and dismayed today! My 10 year old son got off the bus today and got off dripping with sweat because of the heat inside the bus. The bus either did not have air conditioning or it wasn't working. When I called the school the response from the front desk Mrs Cyr was that I needed to call the transportation company myself to inquire as to the issue with the bus. WHAT? I did not realize that I was expected to make sure the busses and drivers also did their job. I interviews the school, the teachers, checked on the safety of the grounds. Little did I know that I was also expected to check out the safety of the busses! I guess I will need to interview each of the drivers and go check out the safety of each bus too! After speaking with the principal I have a better understanding of the problem! I'm going to make it my mission to find out why were skimping on the transportation for our children read more

If you want your child to be emotionally scarred for life, send them here. I attended this school many years ago and it was the most depressing years of my life. The kids are beyond racist. I was constantly told that I was ugly because of my background. I went to the school counselor for help, and she reported it to the principal, and of course, the principal did nothing about it. I was bullied SO much that I had to move. If you don't own the most expensive clothes, then I guarantee your child will be bullied here. The whole community of moms are awful too and would bully other mothers as well. They only care about popularity here, after all, its Snobbsdale. You would think that after many years they would solve their bullying problem, but of course they didn't (you can see the other review someone else did on here that helps prove my point). Spare your child's emotional health and send them to the PV school district instead. I am still recovering from my many years of being bullied at Sequoya. read more

Students are given incredible experiences to learn and grow. My kids have thrived here and we couldn't be happier. Teachers and the administration are always accessible and receptive to discuss our children's needs. The school also has amazing technology, leadership opportunities, lessons in responsibility, great academics and a general small town community feel... and a rock climbing wall for PE - making it super cool!!! I don't mean to be a prude old grandma, but this school is UNACCEPTABLE. My child currently goes there, and every day after school, she comes home sulking and complains about the "bad cafeteria food and staff." I do agree, when I went there for breakfast and Thanksgiving Luncheon, I was disgusted. The food was a lot worse than the other parents brag about. Each child only received two small strips of turkey, an ounce of mashed potatoes, and about two ounces of corn. There weren't much of any vegetables, and what there were was a very tiny amount. The "dessert" was a stale cookie that was wrapped unfaithfully. The drinks were okay, the milk was cold and creamy, but the bottom of the carton was frozen. Also, I experienced the rudeness of the younger students AND fifth graders. My child has been going there for 5-6 years, and it's a wonder we haven't moved. However, the staff tries its best to be "good" but it just isn't cutting it. Thanks for the worst years of my child's life! xoxo read more

Our children came to Sequoya from a preeminent private preschool with a coddling environment, so we had very high expectations. Sequoya has exceeded our expectations. It's the finest example of a public school. The primary emphasis is education. This is achieved because the teachers, administration and parents work together. While Sequoya doesn't claim "charter" or any other "boutique" status, it stands head to head with any school in Arizona. Whether your child requires an IEP, is gifted or has a learning disability, Sequoya educates the whole child - and EVERY child. Sequoya's principal is extremely accessible (responding to emails within a day, sometimes hours), knowledgeable and friendly. She walks through campus talking to students daily. Her dedication to Sequoya is clear: her car was often the only car in the parking lot over the summer. It's evident she, like the rest of Sequoya, is happy and grateful to be part of this amazing community. The APT (PTO) is active and inclusive. Most schools require a fee to join the APT. At Sequoya, there is no fee and everyone (fathers, grandparents, etc.) is a member. It's a great mix of working and stay-at-home parents who strive to strike a balance between hosting fun activities to create a sense of community, fundraising and support for the teachers.
