Place was clean, noticed newer shower fixture in bathroom. Rooms are tilted. No more $50 deposit and there were hangers in the closet. Aside from the Magma Hotel, this is your only other choice. This place is one syringe needle away from a crack hole. Even on its very best day it's worth less than $30/night, yet they charge $100. The room we booked; two double beds, had a mediocre double and a very narrow single. Bathroom was disgusting- mold/mildew everywhere, broken toilet seat, nasty shower, and colored towels. This is the alternative to the historic Magma Hotel. The owner seems to be trying and she is nice. Then there's another guy, who I think is related to her, that roams the property staring at you or simply sits in his porch chair and ignores you. Oh and you better enter the correct way or that guy will run up to you're car and say nooooooo pointing his finger at you...and then he ignores you. Haha! What an experience. You know I'm coming here it's $114° outside I actually stopped in to let you know that I be checking in in a while we went to look around the area you could have went in my room and turn the air conditioner on to chill my room down this room's outside wall is a block wall the room is scalding hot and the AC unit is a little tiny window unit mounted up in the corner of the wall really people think about it stop being so cheap turn the AC unit on when you know you have a guest coming and I confirmed I walked in and said I'll be back in a few hours you could have went and turned my AC on. Then there's two of us I told you two adults were coming to stay you put one towel in our room and see if we need more to come get them why would you not put two towels two adults two towels. If you travel a lot you probably know that it is rare for a motel to be rated more than 1 or 2 stars. Now be clear here, we are not talking about HOTELS but small independent roadside MOTELS, the drive-up to the door 1950's type. Personally I think people are too snobby when they review such places and have ridiculously high expectations. I have stayed at some perfectly adequate and charming motels in the past. But on the other hand, I've also stayed at some that are indescribably horrible, like in Bates Motel horrible. So what's up with finding this place and seeing that it has a 4-star rating average? In Superior, AZ which can't even really be called a blip on the map? Our search for a place to stay was motivated by wanting to attend the Arizona Renaissance Festival and from the experience of previous years dreading the drive from Phoenix. We hatched a plan of staying the night before on the OTHER side of the festival so we would only have a short drive over in the morning with very light traffic. After considering Florence and reading the extremely negative reviews about most (all?) of the motels there we stumbled on the Copper Mountain Motel and the rate was the clincher, only $59 for a room with two full-size beds. So ... 4-star or not? Well, keep your expectations reasonable. The motel is small and right on the highway, but it's clean and they are friendly and helpful. When we reserved we saw a note that they like to close the office at 8 PM so they can "have a life", and I don't disagree with that, so if you book please give them the courtesy of calling ahead of you're running late. Despite being on the highway there are very few cars/trucks that pass by at night and generally the place is very silent. The beds are clean and comfortable as are the pillows. The old-school 20" cable TV didn't work at all and there's no one around to fix it and the wireless internet is spotty but I didn't have any problems with it. There are some other things that strike a balance between '50s charm and what may not be some people's cup of tea ... here are the plusses and minuses: 1. Bar fridge that is cold and clean 2. Microwave oven - ditto, it works and is clean 3. Lavatory sink only has working cold water, the hot water valve was shut off because it leaks 4. The shower has plenty of hot water but is as big as a broom closet 5. The floors are cold tile. Probably more sanitary than the carpeting in most motels 6. Bed only has a sheet and VERY thin bedspread for warmth 7. Plenty of soap and shampoo but no glasses/cup of any kind. No coffee in the room or lobby either. There's not a lot to do in Superior and what there is closes early so plan ahead if you expect to find something to eat. read more

As part of a large group, we stayed at this motel for only one night. The motel was a great place to start our AZ trip and though very small, the rooms were very clean and nice. The owners, who were present during our stay, also treated us very well and I was able to chat and learn about their property a little bit more. All in all, if I was in the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. The rooms were very clean and it was a very comfortable stay. Only downside was the wifi, it is supposed to be free but was never able to connect. read more

Don't stay here EVER. I stayed there last weekend (2/29-3/1). Bed sheets not changed after prior guest checked out. Cracker crumbs between sheets, pillowcase smelled like body odor/sweat, no washcloths, no hand towel, numerous light sockets had no lights, blanket so thin it was like a sheet, pillow about 1" thick, floor in bathroom had not been mopped, no sink in bathroom it is in living area. No toilet paper. No toilet paper holder. TV did not work. The room I paid for was a deluxe queen bed- it was not deluxe and was barely a "full size bed" Just think what if previous guest had the coronavirus and you had to lay your face on that pillow that didn't have a clean pillowcase on it. Stayed here for two nights during my thru hike of the AZT last year - kinda late on the review, I guess. The place is horrible, just horrible....filthy rooms that are in poor condition, exceedingly high rates and completely naive staff who have no idea what they are doing. It has been terrible. Unfriendly girl at the front desk, dirty and sticky room. We are here for 3 nights. After the first one I left a note for this girl asking to please clean the room. We came back that night and nobody had even been there. Trash was still there, on the floor the dirty bandaid from who knows when. I went to her at 8:30 pm again asking for a cleaner and a mop to clean our room. The ridiculous answer: "can you come back in an hour, someone is using the mop and the cleaner? But the floor is clean, it's just old and stained" I said "No!" And explained it was disgusting and got a cleaner so I cleaned the toilet seat. ... hum ... Why do two guests need the mop and cleaner at the same time? She never made it to our room (who knows since when... We have one more night to stay here but I don't even want to bet that she cares and will show up today. Bottom line: avoid this place if you can or care OR bring your cleaning stuff and don't look behind the curtains. Superior , AZ is great with nice and friendly people, expect the poeple who run Copper Mountain Motel. The lady who helped me, Jasmin I think, claimed not to see my reservations but I could clearly see it on her screen. When I pointed out to her, she said she does see it but it was over booked. I called their partner "Booking.com" and they spoke to her and confirmed that Copper Mountain Motel over booked the rooms. When I went online to find something new they show many vacant rooms. A friend and I stayed there this past weekend during an unexpected temperature drop in Phoenix. Our intention was to spend 2 nights camping in the Aravaipa Canyon however, the first night was so cold and with the wind picking up the 2nd night, we decided to find a warmer place to sleep rather than our mummy bags in the tent! The owner was very nice, accommodating and informative regarding the restaurants around town. We ended up going to Eduardo's pizza & subs just down the street and it was really good pizza! My wife and daughters think motels are sleazy and gross, where happy earwigs flourish under yellow-stained pillows. So, since I was travelling alone to visit the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, I jumped at the chance to stay at the Copper Mountain Motel, along Highway 60 in the old mining town of Superior. The motel clerk had a few teeth missing and smelled like cigarettes, but he didn't seem to be a psycho, a la Norman Bates. He kindly instructed me to park in front of my door, a convenience that only a small motel can offer. I was actually able to throw my stuff from the trunk of the car directly into the room without taking a step. Inside, I didn't see a "sanitized for your protection" banner across the toilet seat, but my room appeared clean, had a comfortable queen bed, nice TV, and decent wifi service. The efficiency included a cold fridge for my Coors Light, and a microwave for my gas station breakfast burrito. With everything I needed for a pleasant and restful overnight accommodation, the room was the perfect man-cave for my solo stay. There was no swimming pool, elaborate lobby or continental breakfast, but my wife and daughters might even agree to stay with me next time at the Copper Mountain Motel. read more

First, this is NOT a 4 or 5 star hotel / motel. It's really a motel. It rates 2 stars but I'm giving a high 2 1/2 because the place was clean and the bed was very comfortable; flat screen 32 inch TV. Wifi was spotty, but when finally connected, it worked OK. Also the shower had plenty of hot water. This is not a fancy place; it's very basic!! Don't believe anything other than that. We stayed here for one night for a rock climbing trip in nearby Queens Creek Canyon. We checked out two rooms, and the lady at the front automatically gave us a small 'hiker discount', which was nice. The motel is apparently in the midst of a remodel, as one of our rooms was significantly nicer than the other. Both were clean and suitable for the price. One nice thing about this place is that it is within walking distance of some of the few restaurants in Superior. Make sure you get to the motel before 8 PM, or make arrangements for a late-night key pickup if you can't, because the office is only open from 8 AM to 8 PM. read more

I found myself having to quit a long bicycle ride to Phoenix and found this motel via Google search. I was desperate for a room and this place was perfect. Amy even gave me a military discount on my word (forgot to bring my ID card) and at $50 I couldn't ask for more. Very clean, cozy and surprisingly quiet for being on a busy road through town. it's a throwback to the golden age of private ownership in motels and I would recommend. read more

I am not sure where the other folks stayed who have contributed to the Copper Mountain Motel review, but I can't believe it was this one located in Superior AZ. I am fine with clean little motels with charm. I have no axe to grind with the owners, but as a customer based business this is a complete failure and mess. Yelp may want to consider a rating less than 1 star for this place. It is located near a mine that I was visiting on business. Now I know why all the folks that i spoke with at the mine said "what, why would you stay there?" Short & Long of it.....I somehow misplaced my key. (my fault, but it happens) 6:00am I go to the office to get a replacement. (ok, what a dummy but every motel has a backup key at the office) Nobody in office. No bell, no emergency number. I called the office several times between 6:00-8:00am but no answer or response. My mine contact came to pick me up at 8:30 and we left for job. I still was unable to get in my room or find a live person anywhere on the property that could help. Oh well, when I get back at 12:30 or 1:00 all will be fine with a manager in the office or on grounds. ??? You guessed it. Nobody anywhere. OK this is not funny any longer. I am calling the motel office every 5-10 minutes and knocking on every door that I think may be attached to the motel management. Mind you, this has been over 6 hours and I can't find anyone in charge. WTF? i finally found the son of the lady that rented me the room and told him I really need to get my things and go to an appointment. RUT ROW.....he comes back from the office (6 hours I have been going through this mind you) and now he is trying to open my room door with a credit card and screw driver. (You can't make this shit up). Sheepishly he said, "that was the only key." OMG. Rather than break the door, or call a locksmith, I advise him to take off the outside aluminum window,.So he and I finally got in. Still no sign of a manager or cleaning person. Emergency? Need soap or towel? TV not working. Extra pillow? Uh Oh, out of toilet paper. Somebody trying to break-in? You can forget it here at the Copper Mountain old world charming Motel. If I were to visit again, I would spend the extra money and go to the Travelodge in Globe. The rooms were cleaned at most once a week, however from the massive wad of hair clogging the shower drain to be less than that. Only two rolls of toilet paper were supplied to the room for the stay and if you were there for more than two days you would have to go to the front "office" and ask for more. Fresh towels would, again, only be supplied when the rooms are cleaned. During my stay room 16 had to be fumigated as a guest was bitten during the night and had his eye swell shut. The internet is very poor, one router for the entire complex; so if you were to try and connect at any time during the day, good luck (this is my third time trying to post this review). Finally, they overbook rooms, an atrocious managerial system, forcing people to move rooms despite paying occupants already being inside. read more

Beware if you are a nonsmoker they can still bill you $200.00 after check out because they say you smoked.Even after thinking it must have been a mistake the manager yelled and said you are a liar.Since I was already gone only noticed on bill and called to question charges,was told the no smoking policy is noted everywhere.OK,for a smoker that would matter again I do not smoke and was billed 200.00 more for an unremodeled room. read more

I regret to say that this was an awful experience. I can understand the charm this modest motel once had but now it is being run by people who have absolutely no observance of the basics of hotel standards. We had to ask them to change the sheets! And also to clear yukky old soap and wrappings out of the shower! The desk person did so but left the floor unswept, the sink very dirty (still with beard clippings all over it), and the toilet disgusting. As I told the desk person the next morning, this was shameful and worse than any 3rd-world lodging I'd ever stayed in. We asked for at least half of our $65 back, but no dice. I think this place should be temporarily shut down until new management takes over. I plan to call the health department in that county after I write this. read more

You can't do better than this genuinely great place, for a regular motel. My wife and i went there a few weeks ago from Tucson just to sightsee in town and John, the nicest guy on the planet, gave us his big room with a big flatscreen TV, a WORKING, NEW FRIDGE AND MICROWAVE, a zillion channels on satellite, and the room was completely new. Podium sink, everything was nice, the bed was great, pillows great. It was really cold that night and the wall unit kept the place warm. SO: I went back up by myself to do some photography this past week and when I called to reserve I told john in conversation I was coming up there on my motorcycle. I also said I could take a smaller room since I was by myself. When I got there he showed me to my room around back at the other end. He chose it because it was right next to a side exit for the bike, on the flattest most compacted gravel that would be easy to ride and plant the kickstand on. He said he knew I'd be cold from the ride up (I was!) so he had started the heater for me ahead of time. I walked in and it was like 78 in there and it was like heaven. And this room was brand new as well (smaller TV), fridge and microwave, a comfy recliner and look, the place is like $58 after taxes depending when you go. I love this place and John is a class act. And his little dog is as friendly as they come, runs around the grounds making sure everything's the way it's supposed to be. Thanks for being you, John. read more
