There's nothing special about Copper Mountain College. I gave it three stars to be nice. It's located out in the middle of nowhere so they don't get the best instructors. I went there to earn a certificate and I only had one course to go to fulfill the 15 units when they dropped the program. A few years later they brought it back and I was able to take that one course and get the certificate. I asked more than once why they dropped the program in the first place and never got an answer. They had to have a reason and should have just been honest with me. If you can, go to College of the Desert in Palm Desert instead of CMC in Joshua Tree. COD has better instructors and offers more degrees, certificates and individual courses. read more

This "college" is trash. The advisor, if you want to call her that, Marissa Salomon, has a major chip on her shoulder when meeting students. She happily gives bad news and does not care to advise positively. This school is centered around the faculty and their needs. The students are an afterthought. The instructors spend half of class time bragging about their lives and are out of touch with current society. The textbooks are at least 3-5 years out of date and it is obvious the instructors do not update their education. The bookstore hours are terrible and they are rarely on time. I have waited outside many times waiting for them to come back from a two hour lunch. Don't waste your time and money by attending this sad excuse for an educational institution. I hope they get discredited and defunded. read more

Paul Friedt takes our car to the automotive department claiming he would perform a head gasket replacement. Instead, he takes the engine to another college, never to be seen again after repeated requests to return it. We called for an appointment with the college president to request the car, and engine, be returned to us in original condition, but never received a call back. On Tuesday, 4/4/2023, Paul Friedt dumped the destroyed vehicle in our front yard with the engine missing along with many other parts missing, damaged and broken. The back windows were both pried down, breaking the motors yet no one at the college bothered to try and close them with it being stored outside. The vehicle now looks like one found in a junk yard after most of the parts were removed & others tossed in the back seats destroying the interior. It is criminal the way the automotive instructor, Paul Friedt, destroys others property and thinks nothing of it. It is also appalling how the college does nothing about it when vehicles on their property are vandalized by not only others but the instructor as well. read more

I absolutely love this tiny campus and how hands on the staff is. There are brilliant professors here and faculty that care about their students. I have had excellent interactions with staff and students alike and I feel like I am getting a private education compared to the large community colleges in LA where I started my education. It is easy to speak to staff and get counseling appointments and even the Dean is incredibly involved and hands on, he actually called me after I got my Covid diagnosis to check on my health. While being a smaller college does have some downfalls, like certain courses only being offered during certain semesters, with careful planning and regular counseling check-ins, you can certainly check off your associates for transfer here with ease. As a science major, I know a lot of people that drive up from the low desert to get their prerequisites here instead of overcrowded College of the Desert! read more

It may be a small college, but the teachers care very much. I am currently taking the Automotive program. I would recommend it to any one weather you are just wanting to learn to fix your own car or if you are going into a career. It is a great program either way. read more

Even though this is a small college it still has great worth! The teachers are always friendly and so are the staff. Because of how tight knit it is, faculty remember your name fast and you become a familiar face to the college staff and to the community rather fast. Courses aren't to expensive which is also a plus. The one drawback is book cost but some teachers try to use free books for their classrooms in an effort to help their students by adopting those free books. Also there is free parking if you park along the street or in the visiting areas and can buy a parking pass for the general parking areas. read more

I current enrolled at Copper Mountain to finish my High School Diploma. I started with the counselor I don't remember her name but she is MY FAVORITE. I'm at the college doing my studies almost everyday, I am very motivated and wanting to get them done. Carlos is mostly there when I am he's very nice always willing to go over my tests with me and making sure I passed my test, checking with me the next day. I really like that there are people like that here who care. And that's why there are 4 stars! The reason there isn't 5 is because on Saturday I came to school and there was a posted outside that they were unexpectedly closed due to power outage, but all the lights and computers were on and working. So then I come back the following Monday, since I was gone all weekend although expecting to come back the very next day (Saturday) and failed a test. When you fail a certain amount of times you need an administrator to go over it with you(usually Carlos); but today he wasn't here therefore NOBODY out of the 5 people here were able to go over my test with me. Therefore I wasn't able to get anything done today because the system doesn't let you go on with out going over it with an administrator. So, it would be GREATLY appreciated by your students if you had SOMEONE there with the ability/ access to go over my test with me and allow me to proceed completing. After waiting about an hour an AWESOME lady named Heidi came in to the rescue and went over my test with me and then I got 100% Thank You Heidi read more

where i get learned. applying is much like any other community college in california. they offer online methods and a walk in option. registering is another story. its strictly walk in only. no online or phone methods available... at this time at least. theres an admissions employee named katie whos amazing. always smiling and very helpful even when things get completely complicated. theres 2 main buildings, an office/bookstore/cafe quad, autoshop, and a gym thats about 1/2 mile from the campus. and for those with access to base, theres classes aboard there also. parking is $20 but theres free public street parking also. the library has most classroom texts on reserve but the single xerox machine can get pretty busy so plan ahead and avoid a pre-class textbook copy rush. most professors offer study sheets, powerpoints, recorded lectures, etc to students so all one must actually do is stay awake during class.. This "College" is all right if you want to start your General Education requirements. Otherwise, it is limited to it's degree program, and it will take you forever to finish any degree there. The reason I say this is because the course load is limited, with some classes offered every other semester, and some classes only offered every even, or odd year. It is best for those that have the time (a decade maybe?) to finish a degree there, and this is supposed to be a 2-3 year college. In order to actually finish something, you'll need to transfer to a bigger school. read more

Copper Mountain College is the newest (accredited in 2001) of the California Community Colleges. It's major drawback is it's lack of educational programs. They don't offer much in regards to degrees and/or certificates. And the registration process is prehistoric. The lines are frustratingly long and slow because CMC still doesn't offer online registration. This JuCo is okay if all you want to do is to complete your General Education requirements and move on to the University level. But other than that, you're better off driving down to the College of the Desert in Palm Desert if you'd like to pursue a specific Associates degree or certificate. They offer a lot more and the instructor's are professional and caring. There's a few good teachers at CMC, but not enough. Hopefully this will change as the school continues to grow and attracts better leadership. I'll be nice and grade Copper Mountain College on an extra wide curve....and give it a C minus. read more

i was going to this college before i was an honor student for many semesters in a row for the licensed vocational nursing but i did not get in the program because class was full and they told me there were others on the list who were waiting to get in the program in 2010. I started the prerequisties for the registered nursing program but then i became pregnant when i was almost done so i decided to work to provide my child then later i was put on best rest. afterwards i decided to work to keep providing for my family. now i try to go back to college to finish or get a degree because i worked very hard and didn't want all that to go to waste. But being such a long time i could not get in any nursing program and cant even get degree in liberal arts math and science. Financial aid said i was not allowed any money except for the bog waiver to finish my degree and have to go back in the past to get everything that i need to appeal it. i have my kid and hes with me should not that be good enough and cant provide books to start school for myself. Even if i tried to come back and do the nursing programs i will caused my family some hardships in a period of time. i cant really qualify for other services because i have so many damn units. I have attempted 87 units but have no degree and in order to prove that i need to go back in the past some how. If u are thinking about going to this college make sure u know exactly what your degree is and stay at it. read more
