After reading some of the reviews on here we weren't so sure about trying it and we had never eaten…read morehere before. We couldn't find a problem. My wife had the Chicken George and it was perfectly good all the way around. I had the Swiss Dip sandwich and it also was very good, one of the best I've had in quite some time. Wait staff was all good, no complaints there. Only one slight problem, the girl serving had forgotten my fries but she brought them out in about 2 mins. Food temp was good with everything. It's a nice place to eat and the food was very good was what we found. Definitely will be back to try the Prime Rib on a Saturday. We don't just throw 5 stars out there over all the years. It takes quite a bit to just get 4 stars from us. It's difficult to tell with some reviews anymore. Reviews we had read of a some other restaurants where people had given raving reviews over a length of time and we found the exact opposite. And we could tell it wasn't just an off day for them. We could tell by the ingredients they use and how it's prepared. They're using sub-par ingredients (in our opinion) for one thing yet charging right up there in price. We don't have a problem eating here again anyway. Definitely will be back.

I've eaten at this location twice now. We really enjoy the Clinton riverfront location. Always eat…read morethe chicken George as it's "world famous." This time we all noticed the chicken was a bit darker in color than usual. Not sure if it was a bit over cooked or if the oil was a tad old. A nit, because the chicken was still tender and tasty. And our server should have been a bit more attentive. I had to get my own mustard. Then salt. And refills were slow. Not sure why, only 3 tables served including ours. Plan on going back at least one more time before we leave the state.

First time eating here, it was lunch time so we ordered lunch. It just didn't do it for us. I gave…read moretwo stars and that's for the very good service and friendly staff. Certainly not for the food. First thing we found quite different was no dinner rolls or even wafer crackers to eat with your salads. I don't ever remember a diner over all the years that didn't serve one or the other....or both. Nope, you just get a salad and dressing, that's it. No shredded cheese for the top of your salad nor was it offered. My wife had the Chicken Parmesan. To her it tasted like store bought tomato sauce from a can. No taste to the rest of it at all. For bread, two pieces of toast. She ate not quite half of the meal. It wasn't as good to her as from other diners over the years, not at all. I had the Broiled Steak Sirloin with cooked onions. No flavor, no taste, I couldn't taste any seasoning. I was quite disappointed. Normally these are made with a good quality fresh hamburger or even mixed with some ground sirloin and with some seasoning. I would say this wasn't made from fresh, not in my opinion. I only ate about half because I was hungry. Sorry to say but the food was sub-par compared to many other diners we've eaten at over the years yet they charge right up there with the prices for it today. We haven't been to a diner in years where if we have half of it left, it goes home for diner the next day. Not this time, we left it all behind. We'll give them one more try and that will be for breakfast. We won't be trying it for again for lunch. Sorry, but this all really missed the mark for us.

They changed the entrance from days of old but the interior is still cool. Service was top notch, not too creepy but there when needed. The food is ITALIAN! It is good- seriously good. Eat here if you want good food at a good value. Only complaint was the wine pour seemed a bit stingy.

The Ghost in the Machine: A Study in Youth and Enigmas at Rastrelli's…read moreIn the heart of Clinton, Iowa, Rastrelli's stands as a sprawling monument to local tradition, a place where the weight of history is palpable in every dining room. However, a recent visit suggests that while the walls remain steeped in heritage, the current operation is being steered by a remarkably green crew. The waitstaff and floor team are almost exclusively young, possessing an earnest but unpolished energy that seems to operate in a vacuum. Management was entirely invisible, a phantom presence that left the youthful staff to navigate the complexities of a large-scale dinner service without a seasoned captain at the helm. This lack of professional oversight leads to a breakdown in the basic choreography of service. The tables here are notably small, a logistical challenge that became apparent when steaming plates of hot pasta arrived while our salad trays still occupied the limited real estate. It is a fundamental error in pacing that a present manager would have corrected with a single glance. Furthermore, for a house that prides itself on its Italian roots, the absence of vinegar to accompany the olive oil for the bread was a curious and disappointing omission. The staffing model remains equally baffling. Our waitress seemed to be burdened with nearly every occupied table in the room. We were fortunate that the evening was not particularly busy; had the dining room been at capacity, the system surely would have buckled under the weight of such an uneven distribution of labor. The most surreal chapter of the evening, however, was the appearance of the "orange dish"--a neon-hued confection studded with marshmallows. When we sought clarification, the staff--notably, not the chef--explained that this enigmatic staple is prepared en masse every morning. It is a dish that feels like a spirited, mid-century potluck survivor, an orange enigma that remains the most bizarre part of the Rastrelli's experience. "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." -- Gustav Mahler Rastrelli's remains a cornerstone of the Clinton landscape, but the current fire seems to be flickering under the weight of an absent management and a disjointed service rhythm. While the youthful staff is to be commended for their effort, the establishment would benefit greatly from a steadying hand to guide the basics.
