On a five day road trip through the upper midwest, Steve's Old Time Tap was a great relief to the overpriced hotel bars and touristy traps from the previous 4 nights. Located directly across the street from the downtown Rock Island Holiday Inn, it's a easy stumble to the front desk and so much cheaper and authentic than the hotel bar. My first visit was late afternoon for a beverage after arriving in town. The bartender Tammy and owner Jeff were awesome with making me feel welcome and giving advice for dinner and attractions. My second visit was later that evening after Ubering back from across the river from a concert. A different bartender, but equally as talented in customer service skills ( I wish I could remember her name). A packed house with a mix of locals and people staying at the hotel - which mainly caters to traveling workers for the railroad. A perfectly cluttered and dingy dive bar that's been around many decades with prices that can't be beat. I would most definitely be a regular if I lived there. read more

Wow...this local hot spot was hopping at 1:30 in the afternoon. The bar was full and that says something. We had the pleasure of meeting Tammy and the sign on the wall says it all. Let's just say I was shocked at our bill after a few hours of hydrating and eating. The burgers are open-grilled and simply amazing. Glad I had it, but there are so many other choices to try. We watched the Super Bowl for 2020 here and it's okay. The bartender was very helpful, but the patrons are not that friendly if you are not a local. It's really full of locals that pretty much ignore you if you try to talk to them, which happened twice to us, so I gave up after that. The food is bar food and the beer is your typical types, which didn't bother us as we are not beer connoisseurs. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it's pretty obvious if you are not from around there that the other patrons will cold shoulder you. read more

It's amazing here, feels like home. Burgers are grilled to perfection, they have a home made spicy mustered sauce that pairs perfectly with the burger. Wings are breaded and good. Lindsay and Tammy are amazing servers. Hard to find servers like this nowadays. Love the fact they give you free peanuts and popcorn to start. What can I say. Stepping into IL, the people are friendlier. Hawkeyes are nice, but there's something different about being east of the Mississippi. Grab a PBR in bottle form and make small talk with the locals. Buy one of them a beer for wearing a Jeff Gordon cap and she may offer you a pinch of chewing tobacco. Stereotypical dive bar, but extremely fun. Cheap drinks and their food is a lot better then I expected even though its a limited menu. I've been there several times and I guess I was most impressed by how inviting the bartenders are. Although you will find mostly locals, there is a Holiday Inn across the street which provides an always changing crowd. The owner is very jolly and polite man who seems to be very well liked by his regulars, and it seems like he prefers to the dirty work such as take out trash, change kegs, clean up messes, and I even saw him scrubbing a toilet once which having an owner doing those kind of jobs is extremely rare in the bar industry. They also have free popcorn that they make fresh regularly, peanuts, and even chips and salsa sometimes. They have like around 10 TVs which is great for college football watching. I gave it 4 stars though because the bathroom is small and seen better days, but is full of random (and funny) sayings typical of dive bar bathrooms. read more

This place is your classic dive bar, but in a good way! This is the type of place that you can eat in-shell peanuts and throw your shells on the floor. They have pretty cheap drinks and free popcorn and peanuts. You can't go wrong with any of that! There are several TVs, a couple game machines, and jukebox. They have a grill where they can whip a pretty solid menu of your classic bar food. I'm a big fan of their bacon cheeseburger and their mini tacos. They make their own tortilla chips, which are very very tasty. Bartenders are friendly and talkative. The bathrooms leave a bit to be desired, but I suppose they fit the style of the place quite well. All in all, it's a solid choice for having some drinks with friends. read more

Was stuck in Rock Island for Thanksgiving due to my job, walked over to Steve's because it was the only thing open near the hotel. I can't say enough about this place! Tammy aka Tamela was our bartender and she made the day very enjoyable and entertaining! She and the owner, Jeff, laid out an amazing thanksgiving dinner for free!!! Two turkeys, dressing, ham, and an awesome cheese dip! We could not be more grateful for the effort they put forth to make us feel at home out on the road!!! I like. Just had an ultra cheap draft of the Budweiser. Super cheap, intriguing Mid-West meaty menu. We might go back for a couple later. Planning on having lunch there tomorrow before we leave town. Every time we go here (which has only been two times) I end up really drunk and I throw up later. But that's okay. The bartenders are friendly, the drinks are cheap. It reminds me a lot of some bars I used to go to in Chicago. The crowd is semi-friendly, I guess.
