I ordered two carne asada tacos and one al pastor. They had a vertical spit going, slicing the pork fresh with pineapple, always a good sign. Everything came out hot. The corn tortillas were fresh, double stacked, and lightly grilled so they stayed soft and pliable. The al pastor was tender with a nice sweetness from the pineapple and topped with diced onions. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. The carne asada tacos had a good amount of meat, cilantro, and onions, but the beef itself didn't quite hit for me. It was missing that charred, grilled flavor I look for and leaned a little more steamed than seared. Even so, the fresh tortillas and generous portion of meat earned them a 4 out of 5. The salsas were the highlight. The green salsa was creamy with almost an avocado-like texture, well balanced and lightly salted. The red had a roasted flavor with solid heat. I ended up using both on everything, the green for richness and the red for spice. At $5.69 per taco it's not cheap. Three tacos and a bottled soda came to about $22. The surprising part is this isn't Cherry Creek. It's in a pretty rundown strip mall at Monaco and Iliff, so the pricing caught me off guard. They do have a $2 Taco Tuesday, and that's probably the day I'd recommend trying them if you want to see what they're all about. Overall, it's worth a visit. The fresh tortillas and excellent salsas really stood out, and I'd come back again. I still want to try the carne asada burrito, although I wish it came with guacamole, pico de gallo, cilantro, and onions instead of beans and rice. That's just my preference, but I'm always on the hunt for that perfect carne asada taco or burrito.
