Has another location not far from here. The prices aren't that bad it seems. A lot of local products to get. It's known best for the local beers and spirits. There's a pretty extensive amount of wines. A crap ton to choose from. There's also tastings. Get to have a few samples. These are usually on Thursdays. A lot of good deals. I've been going to CoolVines pretty often since social distancing started... okay fine, once a week. Ooops. They are SO well stocked, SO reliable, and a visit here has truly been one of the highlights of my week. One of the most fun things about CoolVines is that they have really unique and different brands. They switch things up often, especially as the seasons change. I love seeing what interesting types of beer they have in stock, and right now they've got some really rad stuff for summer. Wine selection is plentiful. Lots of bottles are upwards of $25 and you can of course get as fancy as you wish. But they also have a standing selection of bottles for around $15 that are solid. They even have a table red (Rosso) for something like 12 bucks and it's great. Oh, and they also have a solid bottle of champs (Dibon) that also goes for $12. There are also very unique brands of liquor and the fun and different drinks like fancy boxed wine and canned rose and pre-bottled cocktails. Yesterday I noticed some cute little bottles of Negroni which is fun. Oh, and speaking of Rose as we roll into summer they end up stocking a ton of variety. I was trying to order a coffee this morning and she's deliberately ignoring me while shes yelling/arguing belligerently to a stranger on the street. She was on her phone recording while yelling the WHOLE TIME, mind you I'm in a rush going to work. Okay imagine your typical bougie wine and beer store - boom that's cool vines. It's definitely on the pricier side but I could understand why because their selection is unlike anything you've ever seen. It's different than your typical liquor store chain and it's always great to support a local business. They have so many different wines & beers from microbreweries and small companies which gave me a chance to try something new - sangria cider! It was delicious and I love the sturdy bag they gave me, made it easy to carry everything on the walk home. The cashier was very friendly and made me feel confident about my selection. Cool Vines is my new favorite hometown liquor store. They do a great job of consciously curating a very particular selection of wine, beer, and liquor that omits just about every mass market brand you can think of. And that's fine. That's what Super Buy Rite is for. Their selection also hits a variety of price points, so no matter what you're looking to spend, it's very likely that you'll find something interesting, and affordable. Wines are represented from regions all over the world, and have made their way to Cool Vines for a reason. I'll bet you've never heard of most of what they have. And, to quote my dad, "that's a good thing." Broaden your horizons. Ask for help, and/or an opinion. My current favorite is a South Australian Shiraz (definitely not Yellow Tail) that retails for $13. It's an easy drinking red that's usually always available - and if you're headed to a party, it's a very safe bet nobody else is going to bring this bottle (or most any other, for that matter.) With local craft beer as far as the eye can see, you'll be spending a lot of time looking at labels here too. Looking for a peanut butter chocolate stout 4-pack for $21? Gotcha covered. Think that's a lot? Yes, it is. But I'm sure it's stocked for a reason. Main takeaway: like with the wine, don't come here for beer you can find anywhere. Come here for new stuff, local stuff, fun stuff, and sometimes, inordinately expensive stuff. If you're just looking to get in and out with a bottle of Tito's, yes, that is possible. But if you are looking for a wide selection of interesting vodkas, gins, rums, bourbons, etc. - there's a LOT to look at. I've gotten into bourbon the last few months, and I'm excited to come here when my Misunderstood Ginger Whisky (local to Jersey City) runs out to figure out what to get next. Oh, and I didn't even mention the selection of cheese, meats, dips, sauces, spreads...it's easy to get lost in that too. (I'm sure you are seeing this trend by now.) Last time we came in we walked out with these sugar coated maple apple donut/muffin hybrids (hard to explain, basically just a delicious circle) that were in the freezer. Warning: delicious, addicting, and surprisingly non-murderous in the calorie department. Whatever we needed, we'd stop by here on the way back to our place. If you have not tried pumpkin pie ice cream.. you are missing out. Called ahead of time (was in a horrible rush) and asked for a good ice wine around $50, and it was a gift so I asked Mia, who was diligent and kind, to make sure it was wrapped up pretty. Got there, the wine was ready, beautifully wrapped and all my boyfriend had to do was pay. I love CoolVines because they really have an amazing variety as well as a wide price range. I have been passing by cool vines for awhile and it wasn't until I was walking past it that I had the chance to stop in. This is more than just a wine store, it's also a cafe/small coffee shop and a place to discover new beer, wine and liquor. In the 15 minutes of looking around, I didn't see many main stream brands that you would see in the other liquor stores you stop in to. They are grouped by geographic region which helps you to ween out any wines you think you won't like. Each wine has a sign summarizing any details you might want to know. They have a variety of price points, most of which were reasonable. I will definitely come back here! The store also sells wine glasses and bar cart accessories which is great if you are going to someone's house and want to bring a gift along with your booze! read more

This is a great little spot that's on the side of downtown - where it's needed. One thing I really like is that each bottle of wine has a card on display that talks a little about it - and also what you can pair it with. Makes it very easy for the non-wino. It's a small store - but has enough to get you what you need - and at all price levels too. Oh my GOD I love this place! It is so pretty inside with tall ceilings and good music. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. Honestly, due to the location and aesthetic of this place, I was worried this place would be incredibly expensive and "treat yourself" kind of store but I was wrong! They have many delicious wines, many of which are under $20. (The high end stuff is here too but i'm not at a place in my life yet where i'm buying fancy wine i'm only 21 lol but from the other reviews they have a great selection of the nice stuff too) I really wanna emphasize how good the wines are here and how big the selection is. I stop by on my way home to Journal Square. The liquor store in my area sells wine but it's more expensive and tastes so bad- you will not experience that here. I'm taking away a start because the Jersey City Health Board has prohibited us from taking our dog there. Honestly, we really only go in there when we're walking the dog and it's nice to be able to wander around with her to find new products. Now, one of us has to hold the dog outside and what was once a discovery mission has now become a surgical shopping trip, which also means that we don't have time to discover new things and make incremental purchases. A shopping experience can either make or break you. It also makes or breaks a business. I just walked into Cool Vines as it was recommended by a friend as a place to go to. I walked in looking for "Talls" on a mission as I also needed to catch the light rail. I look for talks and seconds after I enter I was asked for assistance. Nice thing to do, unfortunately said conveyance of assistance was felt with some under tone. I asked if they carried single beers and the response was yes. I was directed to the area with no issue, but the method used was suspect as I didn't feel welcomed. I select 2 IPAs and go to the counter to pay. I felt like I was being watched. I pay and was asked if I needed a bag. I requested single tall bags where the response was "I do not have" but didn't feel like I was being addressed eye to eye respectfully. I proceed to pay and say" thank you have a good one" where the response was similar, but with an what I felt was an unwelcome tone. I exit the establishment and immediately messaged my friend who recommended Cool Vines of my experience. The consensus was that she agreed that I was OK to feel like I was being racially profiled during that time frame. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience and I will not recommend anyone to patron this establishment moving forward. I came in to make a purchase not be treated as a second class citizen. Someone needs to speak to the person at the counter at the time of this post. If you can't handle people especially if this is your business, then you need to find another business that doesn't deal with customers because, you my friend, suck ass! read more

I want to love this place. Great selection, nice open space to not feel like your getting in people's way, as you read the 27th craft beer label... but I have practically begged them to put easier to find prices on stuff in their fridges. I've mentioned it to 5 staff, that I don't understand why they leave stuff in their fridges unpriced. From the craft beer to the food section, pricing seems to be something they are completely incapable of. It's as if they have a life threatening disease for putting a sticker with a price on their items. I've heard the excuses. "We have too much product rotating," "We are planning on updating the price sheet!" "Sorry!" Just put prices on stuff. It's embarrassing coming to the staff, who are literally always on the computers, "What price is this beer?" Over and over. Some of the beers are priced above the fridge, but I'd wager on a given day, about 1/3 to 1/2 aren't priced. As someone who sometimes doesn't want to spend $15 regularly on a 6 pack, I'd rather avoid the embarrassment of asking prices constantly or going to the register and telling you I don't wanna spend $15 on a 6 pack and to have it put back. If you want people who are on a budget, to go to your shop more often, price stuff. It's not that I can't afford it, but I have a budget for myself. A lot of people do. It's safe to assume, after going here off and on for months, it's either out of laziness or being snub nosed about having price tags on goods. The excuse of not having time, to reprint a beer list with 30 items on it, is silly! It's not even a nice looking menu. And 2/3 of it stays the same! We are talking about the inability of a staff person, modifying 10-20 beers on a list, once every few days. There's no good excuse. And if you don't think it's a big deal, that's a shame. Seriously, since each time I've walked in - there's at a minimum of 2-3 workers doing absolutely nothing, including acknowledging a customer. read more

I LOVE COOL VINES! It's my favorite wine shop in America. Or at least in Jersey City. This amazing wine shop is located a few blocks away from our apartment, and we have become super fans. What I love about Cool Vines is that they do all the vetting for the customer, and only curate a delicious selection of wines. Their wine selection reflects all of the famous regions - from Napa, Burgundy, you name it. But they also offer a unique selection of wines from regions I would have never considered - like a volcanic ash wine from the Canary Islands I tried there a few weeks ago, or Greece, or Hungary. If you're looking for Yellow Tail you won't find it here. Forget the big name, super mass production wine labels. There's some well-recognized players, but those who have earned it - you won't find the BS stuff at Cool Vines. But this store is not pretentious. You can still purchase Slow & Low whiskey cocktail or Underwood sparkling rose in a can. In addition to a fantastic wine collection, they offer an impressive local beer and hard liquor selection too. They stock my favorite bourbon from Breckenridge Distillery in Colorado, along with some other respected liquor brands. And plenty of Jersey Pride here if you're into that sort of thing - including Jersey City's very own Corgi Spirits gin and Vodka. OMG and the cheese. Their selection of fromage and meats and chocolate and other delicious things is such a treat. One of my favorite parts about Cool Vines we recently discovered is their wine tastings every Friday. From about 6-8pm you are invited to try a selection of 3-4 different wines which all have something in common. We always leave with 1-2 bottles of wine we have tasted, and then walk to a nearby BYOB restaurant to enjoy. And that is my favorite part about Cool Vines - you'll always leave trying something new that we undoubtedly end up liking. read more

I love everything I've ever purchased here. From the groceries (definitely get the frozen pizza from Naples and fresh frozen Ciabatta...and prosciutto...and cheeses). Oh and never miss out on their amazing rotation of beers, wines (vino verde is on repeat right now) and recently the hard kombucha. The service and knowledge of the staff are top notch. Absolutely competitively priced for the area and still (IMO) a great deal considering they sell premium products. I went to CoolVines on 1/24/21 and felt unwelcome. The tall, thin white guy with semi-curly brown hair (and maybe glasses) acted as if I was bothering him when I asked a question about their wine. And when I bought some canned wine and asked for a straw he acted as if I were somehow asking a stupid question when it seems logical you might carry straws when selling canned wine. "I don't know what to tell ya," he answered, when I asked why they don't carry them. A simple, truthful answer would suffice. Do you feel it's not good for the environment? Do you not sell enough canned wine to warrant giving away straws? There is an answer asshole, you just decided to be a d*ck. Interesting little wine and liquor store that is a nice addition to Grove Street in JC. It doesn't feel like a liquor store--more like a boutique. CoolVines carries a small but very interesting selection of beer, liquor and wine. The decor is interesting, the staff is informed, and prices weren't bad for the sorts of products they carried. We went in, expecting to get a bottle of wine, then we selected two, then they offered us a Manhattan made with some interesting hand-crafted ingredients, and we ended up walking out with the two wine selections, plus a nice Rye Whiskey and some tasty gourmet maraschino cherries. The staff is great with recommendations depending on your palate or meal. And they always have new selections. I cannot wait until they move across the street into their new, larger space! Have a fridge for some selections if you wish to purchase them already chilled and they also have a chilling machine that looks like a water tower without the huge bottle on top. Got the text from my buddy yesterday morning that a CoolVines was opening up in Jersey City. He mentioned that he frequents the CoolVines location often in Westfield to satisfy his craft beer needs. I stopped in and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of wines, scotch/whiskey, and craft beers for such a small place. i ended up picking the seasonal Nectar Nugget (22 oz) from Troeg's and a Casa Julia red - both for about $20. Not too shabby. I also noticed they had Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point. It took me weeks to find it, and they had it here all along. I, too, will be frequenting this place often. For their grand opening, they're raffling out a bicycle (shown on the window), so get there as soon as you can! read more

I had such a good shopping experience and that's very rare these days. Great wine and craft beer selection for such a little place. I like that they have little placards that highlights each beer/wine with prices shown. The staff was very friendly and didn't seem intrusive, but if you had any questions, they would listen and help you. I would highly recommend this place and come back! read more

Store is very cute and spacious. Love the selection of craft beer and ESPECIALLY local jersey beer. They had the latest and great brews from Icarus, Carton, Departed, Bolero, ETC. The Whiskey selection is also great and I enjoy how they carry a bunch of brands I haven't heard before, not usual BS like jack's and maker's mark, etc. Would definitely take another path ride here for some jersey beers. They had a full stock of Icarus Touching The Sun that just released the other day and I snagged the last pack. Keep it up! I really like cool vines. It has become a ritual for me to stop here for a tasting and a bottle before any byob dinners in JC. My lady makes fun of me mercilessly for it. This place has a boutique feel especially when it comes to beers. Really not a bad beer in the place. While pricey, some of their bottles include rare bombers of the sour persuasion that you really can't find many places. They have affordable sour options as well and always have some interested stouts and hoppy beers depending on your mood. Their wine selection is great and their wine tastings are delicious, I just have not made it to any beer tastings yet. This is one of my latest life regrets. Also, double bonus - if you want a bottle of beer or wine chilled on the spot, they have a speed chiller. Best thing to do is engage in a tasting while you wait 3 minutes for your bottle to chill. Will definitely be back and look forward to enduring additional ridicule from my loved ones for my obsession. read more

Just got home from this wine store and had a great experience. Staff were helpful without being pushy: I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me the most expensive bottle. They have a great range of wine at different price points (many under $15/$20 and expensive ones too). All prices were clearly marked. I basically told them what I was making for dinner and they made a few suggestions. Seems the staff here drink the wine they sell and have a genuine passion for what they do. Used to this place when they were across the street in their tinier location, this new location is awesome, huge and expands their already top notch selection. They also do wine tasting on Friday-Sun I believe. There are some pricier wines here, but I find a ton of good finds in the $10-18 range all the time, they have one my favorite spanish rosé's and New Zealand sauvignon blancs, both around $15 each. Tons of beers as well, lots of unique and craft beers, ciders, barley wine, and my favorite, a solid selection of sours. My major complaint, and this is probably because they're in a newer space, is the organization of the beers. It seems a bit all over the place, and they could use some more signage on how they're splitting up IPAs vs. pilsners vs. saison's etc. Still, it's not that hard to find something great. Staff wise, they're not overbearing, they'll say hello, and if you need help, just ask, they will point you in the right direction and are super knowledgeable. read more
