Okay imagine your typical bougie wine and beer store - boom that's cool vines. It's definitely on the pricier side but I could understand why because their selection is unlike anything you've ever seen. It's different than your typical liquor store chain and it's always great to support a local business. They have so many different wines & beers from microbreweries and small companies which gave me a chance to try something new - sangria cider! It was delicious and I love the sturdy bag they gave me, made it easy to carry everything on the walk home. The cashier was very friendly and made me feel confident about my selection. They also limit the number of people in the store which made me feel so much better during this dang pandemic!

Larger than the hoboken location as has both a grocery section and cafe. Same focus on local and small producers for wine and liquors.

CoolVines saves the day... again! Called ahead of time (was in a horrible rush) and asked for a good ice wine around $50, and it was a gift so I asked Mia, who was diligent and kind, to make sure it was wrapped up pretty. Got there, the wine was ready, beautifully wrapped and all my boyfriend had to do was pay. I love CoolVines because they really have an amazing variety as well as a wide price range. Not to mention their fun and fancy food selection! Also, on other occasions that I've been, the staff has been super knowledgeable and eager to help. JC is truly lucky to have this gem.

This is a great little spot that's on the side of downtown - where it's needed. One thing I really like is that each bottle of wine has a card on display that talks a little about it - and also what you can pair it with. Makes it very easy for the non-wino. It's a small store - but has enough to get you what you need - and at all price levels too. If you sign up they will keep a record of all your purchases so you can always stick with what you like.

White wine from Ikaria, Greece- superb with sea bass or porgy.

Another good spot in JC to stop and pick up a six or bottle of wine when hitting the BYOBs. Prices are reasonable and selection is good.

Are you actually coming to Newark? The sign has been up in the Hahne building for month but no movement on the storefront.

OMG. It has been an epic battle to get our liquor license approved! It's done though and we are starting construction on the space next week. Sadly I think it's a foregone conclusion that we'll miss the holidays so we're aiming for a January… Read more

There are a decent number of wine shops in the FiDi area, but this one is the 2nd closest to the largest subway hub in the city. Despite that, I've never seen the place crowded. Maybe it's because their prices ARE a little high. Or maybe it's because of their customer service. They're not exactly friendly, which goes a long way. They greet you as soon as you come in, but it's in a way that makes you feel watched or rushed. I usually ignore that and just ask them to let me browse until I have a question. That usually works. But it's too bad they aren't as assertive with pan handlers & the like. I stopped into the shop yesterday looking for a bottle of wine to pair with dinner. Shortly after I entered, a guy stumbled in off the street, asking me for money for liquor. He was talking loudly & using the N word a LOT. Did they say one word to him? No. Not until he walked up to the counter and addressed the woman there face to face, asking for booze. Even then, she wasn't as assertive with him as she's been with me over taking whatever wine she's chosen. To make matters worse, there was a male employee in the store who stood several yards away, just watching. I told this desperate beggar who was told me that HE HAD A KNIFE & had just been in a physical altercation with someone, that I had no cash. He responded that I could just put it on my credit card. The staff said nothing in response to that. I had already chosen my first wine & had placed it on the counter for purchase. But now this beggar was hanging out there. I heard the woman passively mutter something about preferring him to do his business outside. But the male employee just stood there watching. I turned to the male employee & asked, "You're OK with this?" He just shrugged. But the beggar loudly stated, "SHE'S OK WITH THIS!" and laughed. So I told the male employee, "Since you won't ask him to leave, I'll leave." I then walked out empty-handed & made my way south to Simply Wine on Liberty Street, where the worst thing that happens there might be an occasional puppy fart. It was out of my way, but so worth it. Their selection & service rock. I have worked with and around alcohol for many years, including my time as a bartender. If you can't control drunks & people begging for booze, if you can't protect or at least show concern for the safety & comfort of your paying customers, you're in the wrong business. This place won't be getting any more of mine.

The tastings are fun, the selection well curated, and the prices very reasonable. The points system is nice perk as it doesn't take forever to accrue a reward so can redeem easily.

This was the only liquor store that carried any dealcoholized wine at all. So apparently liquor stores are not allowed to sell anything without alcohol in it. That's so dumb because where else would we go get alcohol free wine? I don't see any in the supermarkets either. Wholefoods has some alcohol free beer and Tost (which is surprisingly good). I drank a glass of the Noughty and I do feel a little bit different but not as much as other wines. I am very sensitive to alcohol. The wine had a nice taste. I would welcome a bigger selection of dealcoholized options to bring to dinner parties so I could have a glass of red wine like everyone else.
