Jerk chicken tacos
Demetrius K.

Small place but the food and service was so that we are planning our return. We had the jerk chicken tacos and wings dinner. The sides were the Mac and cheese, steamed cabbage and the rice and beans. All were delicious. Saw several other items that I would order as well next time. Great flavors and presentation. I found this when I was dropping off my wife at the breakfast place nearby. Otherwise I never would have known of this place but for my drop off of my wife down the street.

Honestly I'm done traveling to states and trying to find a restaurant that makes something they're "known for". In Indiana's case that might be pork tenderloin or sugar pie. I wanted GOOD food from someone who cares, and this was GREAT food! If I were ever passing through again, I would come back here for the chicken wings alone. The perfect crust, yummy sauce, and still somehow fall-off-the-bone. If you're looking for an Instagram-worthy shot, get the Shrimp Mac & Cheese served in a pineapple! The flavors are solid, just note it's not a thick gooey cheese, it's much lighter which might be preferable as the portion sizes are large! Fun tiki bar cocktail menu and friendly service! Small parking lot and street parking around the neighborhood. Divey ambiance.

Found this gem and decided to try it out! Per the bartender, it's been around for 8 years and even features a food truck! The restaurant is cute, and the covered deck probably triples the dining space. There is a full bar as well as table service. There is a lot to choose from on the menu. We decided on the Curried Lamb and the Jerk Chicken, with sides of Red Beans and Rice, Cabbage and Mac n Cheese. Both dishes were served with two slices of fried Plantains on the side. As you can see from the pictures, the portions were ample! Having been to Jamaica, I can attest the flavors to be authentic and what I expected. Unfortunately, the goat and cabbage were a little over salted, which took away from the experience. The chicken was grilled well and had a good flavor profile. The rice and beans were mild, which made them perfect for mixing with the sauce and other ingredients. Glad we stopped here and would come back!

Oxtail with sweet potato side

We had a friend visiting from out of town and came here for dinner. The downside was we had to wait a while for a table, and the food was slow to come out. It was also a little expensive. However, there was a large meal presented and everything was very delicious! I am usually not a big meat eater but couldn't resist trying oxtail. It was very soft and tender, with a lot of flavor, and very filling. My husband was very excited about his Mac and cheese but didn't think the pineapple bowl added much. Our friend ordered the chicken and said it was delicious, well cooked and flavorful. We would come again but might order for carryaway next time.

Nothing much to look at inside or outside. Our waitress was great friendly and very knowledgeable. She explained many items. I had the red snapper jerk; it was indeed outstanding. Spicy but not to spicy. Red beans and rice were some of the best I have ever had!

If you're looking for amazing jerk then look no further. I can't count how many people I've referred to this place which I like to call a hidden gem due to the tucked away location but it's definitely no secret based on the volume of people you'll find here during prime lunch hours for both dining in and to-go orders. Extremely flavorful and fresh food every time, the jerk is the right balance of spicy but tasty and the rum punch is dynamite and a must get ! Always a good vibe here, feels like vacation!

Jerk chicken wing plate with plantains. $19 before taxes and tip.

This is definitely a in a city full of fast food and franchise restaurants. I'll be honest I was so happy to have found this place. It has that hole in the wall feel to it with some pretty decent reggae music playing while you wait for your food. I ended up ordering the jerk chicken plate which came with rice and peas and plantains. The jerk wings were smokey and spicy absolutely delicious. The rice and peas were okay and the plantains were really good. Nothing but high praise for the food. As far as the service it was okay but definitely could have been better. Despite the service not being that great. I may end up visiting this place again before I leave the area to head back home. Just so I can take some of those jerk wings back with me home.

Jerk Wings with bbq sauce, cabbage, rice & plantain

Drove an hour to get here and it was so worth it. It's a tiny spot, that you would miss if you aren't paying attention. Super cute Jamaican decor. The server was so pleasant and welcoming. Food was 10/10 and I'm against leftovers, but still tasted amazing a day later. Jerk chicken was , the rice was nice and fluffy and I won't even get on the plantains. WILL DEFINITELY TAKE THE DRIVE AGAIN!

Curry Chicken

After my sisters and I saw the name of this restaurant we knew we had to come! "Cool Runnings" was one of our favorite movies as kids and we all like Jamaican food. We decided on a meat pie, jerk chicken and curry chicken. The meat pie was great and the jerk chicken was the favorite over all! The curry chicken was good as well. The portion sizes are large and definitely shareable. O

The food was decent. It's a little pricey and the building was quite warm on the inside when we were there.

Food was incredible. Just hot enough that you feel it, but didn't destroy you. Sides were good also.

Everything was clean, neatly appointed, and the bar glasses (I'm not exaggerating) SPARKLED. The friend of the owner then tells the owner to kick us out and so the owner goes up to my husband and forcefully shoves him out of the bar without listening to our side of the story. If he would have let us explain our side, the owner would've realized his friend was calling our friend (the one who wasn't actually with us) homophobic slurs and was being aggressive and trying to pick a fight with us. Obviously the owner doesn't condemn homophobia and is ok with letting his friend harass customers. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I should also mention, my friends (the ones the owner's friend was harassing me over) went to Cellar Door on 2/21 in hopes to talk to the owner and explain the issues the owner's friend caused, but the owner blew them off and wouldn't talk to them. Unfortunately the staff at this place is great, but the ownership will be the downfall of this bar. They don't care about their customers, only protecting their own interests (or homophobic friends).

They were doing a NOLA-themed menu, so we started out with a Sazerac which was DELICIOUS. We ended our meal with Spanish coffee, equally delicious even though our mixer said she'd never made one before. In-between, we enjoyed tuna tartare, oyster bisque, Cajun walleye with hush puppies, a smoky Cajun gumbo, beignets with chocolate sauce and an Argentine malbec. All EXCELLENT!!! If you haven't been to the Historian, you're missing out. Great food, friendly service, nice vibe and decent prices.

It was refreshing to peruse an interesting small plates menu which we would definitely go back to try on a future visit. There is also a traditional menu as well as a special menu on weekends prepared by a guest chef featuring international cuisine. We tried the "Thai Night" menu and especially enjoyed the vegetarian potstickers in a delicious Thai sauce and the noodle salad with shrimp. The flavors were layered, with a delicate creamy texture and just the right amount of spice. There is a parking lot on site and reservations are a must on weekends, although an early arrival might get you a nice spot at the bar!

Swells A Dive Bar - Detroit style pizza

"A perfect pit stop for pizza, pours, and ridiculous good times"…read more If you're the kind of person who likes pizza so big it threatens to spill over your lap, beer cold enough to make a snowman jealous, and a bar atmosphere that's "rustic chic" -- otherwise known as "dive-bar with a soul" -- then Swells is your joint. Walk in and you're instantly hit with: a dozen TVs showing whatever game, a neon sign letting you know you're not in Kansas (or Chicago), and the unmistakable aroma of something cheesy, savory, and probably sinful. I went for the Detroit-style pizza and wasn't disappointed -- each square slice was like a little piece of heaven on a cardboard platform. The bartenders? Friendly as a farm dog when you show up with the cooler tucked in back of your pickup. Drinks flow quick, conversations are easy, and before you know it you've swapped a few tall tales with locals who've probably been coming in since the 80s (and loving the same 80s-era jukebox hits). The vibe's cozy, no pretense -- just good grub + good company. Yes, the parking lot's about as roomy as a Lincoln continental in a compact-car slot, but that's half the charm -- if everyone else's SUVs are packed in tight, it must mean you found the right place. Bottom line: if you're cruising US-12, or in the mood for cheap drinks, honest food, and a laugh or two -- Swells is the kind of place where you leave with a full belly, a warm buzz, and a grin. I'll definitely be back (and likely announcing it loud enough for the bartender to overhear it over the next game).
