This school is a gem right in the heart of Birmingham. That said, students come from many local…read morecities as it seems to draw many wonderful families looking for a safe and nurturing environment. They accept kids starting at 18 months (don't have to be potty trained) and you can create your own schedule from Monday - Friday. We are sending both of our children there this year. We have noticed HUGE strides in our children's learning and social skills. They do crafts (even the Tots class with kids from 18 - 2.5 years), read books, sing songs and teach lessons of sharing and tolerance. Our son started last year in the 3's program and it was so heart warming to watch him grow and play with his friends. His language improved and we got so many crafts to keep. Our daughter is now in the Tots program and only 2 months in, her vocabulary went from 20 or so words to now stringing together phrases and she pretty much repeats any word she hears. She was also really shy and now is very outgoing and loves playing with other kids. The teachers and school director are like family to us. They are really comforting and understanding and it is so evident that they love what they do! Other things that I believe set St. James apart: they disinfect all classrooms every (yes, every!) day, they have a very strict locked door policy and ID anyone that is not the usual pick up person (I've seen it for myself when a dad was picking up his son and a teacher didn't know him). They do work sheets and it is very focused on education / learning. All of the teachers there are required to do so many hours of training each year too. Again, you can do as many or as little days a week you want and mornings or extend the day to 2:00, they do lots of crafts, they have a balanced amount of activities and field trips and the other parents and kids are just wonderful. I've met so many great moms and feel so happy every time I am there. We looked at other schools and have friends at other schools and truly, St. James far exceeds anything we could have asked for. Check out the school! You can call Shar Wickens, the director, directly and set up a personal visit when convenient for you.

They are affiliated with Franklin Athletic Club and therefore get some of the perks of using their instructors or facilities for enrichments.

This makes it so much easier on the parents! They are always working on something fun and active with the children and you can feel how much they care about their students from the second you drop them off, throughout the day receiving fun photos, to their little smiling, proud faces when you pick them up. Miss Lori, the director couldn't be a better person for this role and has made our experience so much more enjoyable than we could have imagined. They also picked up on our daughter being a bit advanced and bored in her classroom and moved her up to make sure she was receiving what she needed. Our daughter has very much thrived from this experience. We couldn't thank Franklin more!

The others had been cleaned and locked since the venue was being prepped for the next day. The lines grew long, and with kids needing to go urgently, I approached one of the custodial staff to ask if any other restrooms were available. That's when I met Ana. She gently explained that everything else was closed but then took it upon herself to help. She contacted someone with the keys, walked all the way to another restroom, opened it up for us, and let in a few others as well. I knew it meant extra work and more cleaning, but she didn't hesitate. When I thanked her, she was so humble and simply said she was glad to help. These 5 stars are for you, Ana! You didn't expect anything in return, and you had no idea I'd write this review. I don't know if it'll ever reach you or make a difference, but this is my way of saying thank you for your quiet act of kindness. It truly meant a lot to us. Such kindness deserves to be appreciated. You're the best, Ana!

In addition to offering year-round care for infants through Kindergarten age children, the program is always offering innovative and exciting curriculum that is age-appropriate and follows the High/Scope method. The tuition is actually below-average for the area and we love their flexible scheduling. As a half day is considered up to 4.5 hours, I can actually get a solid morning of work in before picking my little one up before 1 PM for nap-time. In addition, the program is ideal for anyone who is working flex-time jobs or job sharing as the center works with your schedule--need Tues, Wed, Thursday? No problem! It is the only center in the area that offers this program. We also love the Christian component to our child's education. The children say grace before eating and the pre-schooler's attend a short chapel service each week. The best part of Little Lambs has been meeting and becoming friends with the other families. The families are highly involved, everyone knows each other are extremely supportive. Truly a fabulous program in all ways!

The families who look for cooperative preschool want to give their time and efforts to create a close knit school environment. Our children loved their time at Mayfair, and I was really happy with the sweet family-like environment. The parent board made decisions that were in the best interest of both families and school. The teacher was top notch, she really cares about child development and the kids adore her!

Each parent gets a job within the school & works scheduled days in the classroom & nursery. This is actually one of the main reasons why I chose Mayfair. I love being in the classroom with my daughter to see how she interacts with her friends & get a glimpse at what her school days are like. I also love working in the nursery, it gives me a chance to get to know the siblings of Mayfair. Ms. Amanda is an amazing teacher. The way she interacts with the children is thoughtful and respectful. She gives the children a variety of options to explore and create through play and activities. Our family moved to Michigan 2 years ago and the hunt for a preschool was on. At the time I was 6 months pregnant so having a free on-site nursery for siblings in the Threes and Fours classes was a big plus for me! My eldest daughter is currently in the 3's class and loves every minute of it! I am very excited for her to start her pre-K journey in the 4's class & to participate in the parent & tot class with my littlest.

Their timings were perfect for our long days at work (630-630), they provide breakfast, lunch, snacks as well as diapers/bibs/utensils for the younger ones. I was shocked to find how clean and safe this place seemed. Doors are kept locked unless you have a pin code to get in (you choose the PIN number when you officially register) and even the doors stay locked from the inside unless you press a button to exit. There are plenty of rooms which are separated by different age groups, and the kids are closely monitored by their staff. My son is 6 months old and in the infant room. Since some babies are crawling, they have you put on booties so you don't get the floors dirty m from your shoes. They have a 3 step washing process for all toys that are played with. The crib mattresses themselves are cleaned every night and sheets are washed daily. The cribs have a plexiglass surrounding them so babies don't get their legs or arms caught in the slats. The staff has been there several years, so the low turnover rate is fantastic to me. The center director and assistant director were wonderful about answering all my questions. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great day are. Their prices aren't too shabby either.

Whenever we've visited the school everyone has always been so kind and gracious - so happy to have us visit. Administrative affairs are conducted with a high level of professionalism and efficiency. And my favorite feature of the school is the wonderful sense of community/family that resonates in the interactions between staff, students and parents. If you're considering Academy of the Sacred Heart for your son or daughter I would suggest going to visit. You don't need to wait for an open house just call the office and schedule and appointment. You just can't place a price tag on investing in the very best educational experience for your children. Every tuition dollar will be well worth it, when you watch your child flourish and grow into the bright young man or woman God has called them to be. I have to give ASH an A.
