Great time cooking with Deb and celebrating with Marci. Can't wait to return for more !

I thought I had reviewed Deb months ago after we celebrated my sister's birthday "Cooking with Deb". What an incredible experience! From the second we walked in the door; her hospitality, her beautiful home, and the valuable tips and lessons-You are immersed in a wonderful cooking world from start to finish! I can't wait to go back and would highly recommend Deb to anyone looking for a cooking class extraordinaire!

There's not many places for parents to sit in between games, they keep it absolutely freezing in the winter time to the point where we had to all wear blankets and heavy coats and there's no hot food.

And then informed me that the program I'm looking to be in is only offered in the spring so since I was a semester behind I was actually an entire year behind and wouldn't be able to join the program until the next year. So instead of getting my associates in 2 years I'd be getting it in 3. But I was told as long as I take all of the winter and fall classes I needed I should be able to get into the program the following spring. He told me I just need to make sure I get a spot in the safety class they're going to offer in the fall for my program. Because if I have to take it in the winter I might not get a seat in the program because it's very competitive. So now it's fall registration time and they aren't even offering the class in the fall. So now i just have to wait and see how winter registration for next year goes if ill even get into the program next year or not. Which would have me at this school for 4 years. How stupid that I go to this school for an associates and it's going to take me the same time as if I just went to a university and got a bachelor's. And it would've looked better coming from a university as well. These counselors are a joke and will make you think they're helping you when really they're setting you back monumentally.

I was in awe of the variety offered to students. As a college student, I would not have been able to afford most of the items in the pastry and refrigerated cases. I noted the containers of soup and beverages available, even the break-apart cookie dough to bake some cookies for a midnight study break. I got the chocolate chip cookie dough for a friend who later texted me a photo of some of those tasty-looking goodies. On to the pastry case. Oh goodness, I could have one of everything. Instead, I limited myself to the chocolate-almond croissant, maritozzi, and lemon cake. When warmed up, the flaky croissant shattered at first bite and oozed dark chocolate. I loved the sweet and subtle taste of the almond paste. The orange-flavored maritozzi was good. The brioche dough was not as tender as I would have liked, though expected since it was later in the day. The cream center was incredibly light and complemented the overall flavors. I appreciate the school instructing students on traditional items (croissants, biscotti) and trendier-to-me foods (maritozzi). Service was earnest, but given that school had just started, there was a bit of confusion.

This is a place where…read moreyou'll understand what food is, what are basic, necessary elements to a dish, what elements go together, where to buy the groceries from, what liquor, wine, beer, alcohol or non-alcoholic drink would pair the best with the dish. She has an extensive knowledge about food, wine, restaurants, ingredients and holistically culinary art. She can cook different cuisines from French classic to Italian pasta, which will make you wonder why you shouldn't pay more than $15 for a pasta at a restaurant. The sea food classes are from fresh lobsters, clams, etc., from the east coast. She has the seafood ingredients flown in during the right time of the year, that's the reason you'll get limited seafood classes. I highly recommend at least one seafood class. The bourbon class has been a hit since last few years (approx. 7) and you'll understand what can you do with a simple Jim beam. The Indian cuisine is made with the exact Indian ingredients you will get in India, and spoiler alert, she will tell you the exact place you can buy turmeric and black pepper for $2 and not $20. What's the difference between a store bought mayonnaise vs homemade mayonnaise, real vanilla vs the imitation vanilla, when are where you should pay for food and why, and when are where you shouldn't waste your money on expensive food and why. The Mexican town tour is a must attend. Mary and her team will take you to Mexican town and have you taste the authentic Mexican cuisine, suggest places you should buy your fresh ingredients. Obviously Taste A Cook's Place is a success because of the entire team. Sammy has been an excellent cook, Baker, server and a helper in the kitchen. She has been vegetarian for last 5-6 years, but knows how to cook a chicken breast and steak. All this comes from Mary and her training. Mary Christopher has been an excellent Baker and her preciseness towards perfection is an example of how a baker should be. Jen is an excellent helper and will be focused on her test, and will work faster and concentrate on quality. And if you have gotten this far reading the review, you might wonder how do i know these things, and why i appreciate this place so much; it's because Mary and her team has made this business into a family, and experience and you can't beat what you get here. You will hear a lotta stories alongside cooking instructions and you will walk out with an intention to open your own restaurant. You pay a reasonable dollar amount (approx $70-$90, depending on the menu) and you get (5-6 dishes) a salad, an appetizer, a soup, two main dishes, a dessert, etc. You are allowed to bring your own wine and you get to take home the recipe with all the hidden secrets, so next time you invite your friends over, you can serve then the best pierogies (polish dumpling) they have ever eaten. 5/5 star.

I have been attending cooking classes with Mary for several years now, and have developed quite a huge stack of recipes from those classes! After my first class (which was a Julia Child-themed class I believe), I was HOOKED... The smell of wonderful things cooking right before your eyes (like interactive LIVE Food Network!) and the relaxed, laid back atmosphere are some of my favorite things about Taste. Of course, my absolute favorite is how wonderfully delicious the food is, and that I usually have to ask for to-go containers because they give you very generous portions of the food that is prepared in each class. The recipes and tips that Mary gives while cooking each dish are priceless, and you can ask her anything during class to help you when you are in your own kitchen at home. The staff is very friendly and eager to accommodate any needs that you might have. Mary is also very knowledgeable about where to purchase and how to purchase various ingredients, like where to buy the best fish and what it's supposed to look like and smell like, or where to go to get the best phyllo dough, and the best (and fastest) way to drain spinach, etc., etc., etc... If you are looking for a pretentious, overpriced, meager-portioned food encounter, go spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. But for a much better value, and the most outstanding food, and the best cooking experience, look no further than Taste: A Cook's Place in Northville, and at www.tasteacooksplace.net/cooking_classes for the latest schedule.

It's the "fine dining" part of OCC's culinary program, meaning your waitstaff and back of house are all students. The menu changes weekly, and it only operates on Thursdays. There's only one seating left for the 2022-2023 school year, next week, for high tea, apparently. You have to email them here to make reservations: https://www.oaklandcc.edu/culinary/restaurants The crowd skewed a bit older - I'm 36, my dining companions were 45-50ish and 60-70ish, too. The onion "amuse bouche" was delicious. I didn't expect to like the eggplant soup but I did, a LOT, actually (I'm not a big fan of eggplant). I had the veal for my entree, and I've never really been a veal fan, but the marsala sauce was good. Dessert was an apple streusel cake with ice cream, and the ice cream was a bit frozen, but the caramel sauce, and crumbly things that came with it, were delicious. Since this is run by students, there will be a few hiccups, and there were: my dining companions needed forks; one sent his food back because it was cold (but myself and my other dining companion had warm plates; etcetera. Everything was corrected quickly and efficiently, though. This place is also a bit hard to find: it's in the J Building at the OCC campus. I recommend parking in the East parking lot. I think we cut through the G building, into the J building, then up to the 4th floor, but if you want to just walk around till you find the J building, that works too. Overall, everything here was very good, and I'd like to return at some point. OCC also has the Ridgewood Cafe, a quick-casual restaurant, which you can find here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/ridgewood-caf%C3%A9-farmington-hills-3 (and I think previously, my dining companions left reviews for Reflections there, too). Forgot to mention: tip must be left in cash, but you can use a credit card for your meal.

Once I got to the register an item price scanned wrong. I bought it to a younger cashiers attention which she acknowledged was happening all day. She went to correct the issue but gave me a a full refund for the item that scanned wrong in my hands which I thought she wanted me to go back to the self checkout since that is what I used. Instead of taking my confusion and explaining what she was doing she stated I'm not going to let you walk out of here in reference to thinking I was going to take the money and items and leave despite me not showing any interest or movement of doing that. Because of my experience I just asked for a full refund instead of the partial and they got a defensive and told me I received the full refund. Instead of making a bigger scene I left to go to my car to check the receipt and money and went back in because they didn't refund 1 of 2 items. When I came back in the older cashier that was making the comments and was there when I asked for the full refund said oh s**t... I never made a scene, wasn't rude, or anything and yet was treated poorly. I got the full refund and I will not be supporting places that treat people like this.
