I put an order in for my nieces graduation for an arrangement and when I picked up the order, the cookies where layed out on a tray. I asked the lady when I picked them up, very nicely, that I thought I ordered an arrangement and she, rudely, stated "no you didn't," and waves my receipt around exclaiming I ordered the tray. I said "Oh, okay..." and before I could think about it she said "okay, have a nice day!" and rushed me out. The cookies look great, but the customer service was terrible. For how much they're charging for these cookies the least they could be is respectful. There are plenty of bakeries in the area that are happy to accommodate customers instead of feeling entitled to be rude once the money is in their pocket. I will never be back. read more

I have always loved cookies by design it's been around for so many years and their use to be one closer to my house but have to drive almost an hour to get to this one. I ordered, for pickup, Christmas cookies. Drove in a snow storm to get there. Three near accidents as I slid on the roads. I arrive to find the store closed. When I tried to call that store, a national phone back person picked up. She told me that I was supposed to have gotten an email telling me that my order would not be filled. I looked at all 8 emails I got from Cookies by Design since my order. All about sales and advertisements about their product. No notification that the store would be closed. I will never patronize this business again, or any of the other franchises. Turns out you can get nice cookies at the high end grocery stores for a lot cheaper. I've been here a couple times now and I'm hooked. The outside is unassuming and easy to miss inside of a parking lot that has a Busch's grocery store as well as several other shops. It's a nice little quaint shop on the inside. There's a glass case right up front displaying their cupcakes and cookie selection and then a chalkboard behind the counter explaining the pricing, The ladies inside have always been nice and friendly. Cookies by Design seems to be a relatively simple dessert shop that doesn't do a bunch of crazy out of the ordinary flavors, but what they do, they do very well. I've had 3 different cookies and a cupcake there so far. The Chocolate Peanut Butter cookie is really good. The cookie is crumbly but yet still moist and rather than having chocolate chips in it it has a small puddle of chocolate right on top. The Snickerdoodle cookie was great as well. Not too sweet and the perfect kind of chewy-moist texture that allows you to enjoy a snickerdoodle without a glass of milk or anything else. The Pecan Praline (I'm probably saying that wrong) was very crumbly and at first I didn't know how to take it. The flavors were great though and had nice pieces of pecan in it that I enjoyed. After a few bites I got comfortable with the texture and think it's an overall pretty good cookie. The Great Pumpkin cupcake didn't hit me with much pumpkin flavor at all. But it did hit me with cinnamony creamy sweet luscious flavors that had me ready to drive back there and get another one before I even finished the one that I had just bought! The cake was moist and in the center it had some sort of creamy white filling. It was topped with a white buttercream frosting and dusted with cinnamon. This is the best cupcake I've had in a while. There are lot's of little bakeries in this area of West Bloomfield. Probably 4 or 5 within a couple miles of this place. However, I won't be going to any of them when I want a good cookie or cupcake. We were next door getting our nails done and one of the nail techs walked in carrying one of their bags with cookies. As a foodie I just couldn't help myself. The nail techs all spoke very highly of it, and I really enjoyed it. The prices are what would be expected from a place that specializes in cookies and cupcakes. I got one cookie and one cupcake for four dollars and change. I wasn't blown away by the items I purchased. It was nice to be able eat the cookie (chocolate peanut butter) without needing a glass of milk. The cookie was soft and the chocolate was creamy, but the cookie didn't scream peanut butter. It was reminiscent of peanut butter actually, which disappointed me. The cupcake was delicious however light and fluffy with a non gritty icing. As I was leaving I heard the lady say they have been there 16 years, and since they have 2 other yelp reviews I definitely think this place is a hidden gem. read more

Rudest customer service I've ever experienced. I left in tears. I wanted to order a special U of M bouquet for a friend who was just accepted into their nursing program and was willing to spend quite a bit of money to do so and the owner was so snarky and rude and said they were overwhelmed and had no patience or interest in talking to me. I literally left in tears. They should have locked their doors and turned off the lights if they weren't interested in selling any new orders. Be very careful when ordering cookies from this company. They are a national company with a website that shows all the kinds of things you can order but not all stores carry the products. They take your order, and your money, then tell you the do not make that type of cookie and they are sending out something different. You know, the old bait and switch. Unfortunately, I wont be purchasing from this company again. I ordered a 7 cookie bouquet for Valentines day, upon arrival I noticed the cookie that had a special message on it was completely smeared. So much so, you could barely read it that I was embarrassed to even give it to my husband. I called and spoke to "Robin" who apologized. I mentioned to her that I also sent an email with a picture of the cookie so she could see the damage herself. She then said she could either re-deliver a new bouquet of cookies, or offer a full refund. ($80 Value including delivery). I was very pleased but opted for the refund as the cookies were still edible. After a day had passed, I looked in my bank account and noticed an $8 credit. I called Robin assuming there had been a mistake, to which she told me she decided to only refund for ONE cookie! Are you kidding me? I am extremely disappointed that this is their idea of appropriate customer service. The entire reason I even ordered something like this was for something unique with a neat appearance, or else I would have just bought sugar cookies from the local grocery store. At the very least she could have given me a full refund for the delivery charge ($15) which I'm assuming is when the damage happened. Very disappointed. read more

Let my begin by saying that I'm from California (the SF area) and I visit my family in Michigan every summer. I CANNOT go back home without buying some of the large frosted circles. They are THE BEST. I crave them ALL THE TIME and have to wait until summer to have them. We had a Cookies by Design in my area, but they closed about 4 years ago :( We also have one about an hour from me and I happened to be in that area, so I stopped to get some frosted circles, but they were a disappointment.
