This early 20th century cemetery was once in the countryside, but now it is surrounded on all sides…read moreby local businesses and literally sits next to the newly built H-E-B parking lot in Georgetown. At the entrance closest to H-E-B you'll find a very detailed layout of the cemetery which will provide you with lots of information. The entire cemetery seems to have a randomly laid out pattern of headstones and markers with some family plots, but mostly just individual markers. Many headstones found here are cast in concrete instead of granite. As the sign at the entrance points out, there are many unmarked graves as well which are primarily former slaves and other African-Americans. Most of the graves have long since been forgotten about, but there are still quite a number of newer graves that are well tended by family members. The grounds are mowed, but there are quite a number of headstones in a state of disrepair. The small family plot is located along Wolf Ranch Parkway just a block from West University avenue aka Hwy 29. It is odd to see such a sight so close to such a very busy intersection and right next to the busy road. There is an entry point next to the sidewalk in the primitive fence, but the entire plot is about the size of the average family garage. There are only two headstones here, but there could be more buried here in unmarked graves. It's nice to see that it has been taken care of in spite of its perilous location. I'm sure the occupants here could never have imagined their final resting place would one day be an obstacle to modern progress.

You will find a Texas historical sign denoting one particular individual buried here. There are many older headstones here along with some recent ones, making this an active graveyard. In keeping with many older cemeteries like this, you'll find lots of headstones belonging to children and young adults. The 2 to 3 acre property is ringed with a fence and is at this time receiving some new construction to enhance the property. The property is very well cared for with virtually no toppled headstones, however, I could not find a listing of who is buried where, nor any information regarding burial information. 3.5 This is a very…read morenicely maintained cemetery. Several of the graves were covered in rose bushes and floral arrangements that you may not see in other places. There were some gravel pathways and and some statuary that were very pretty. Behind the graves there was a prayer walk way with headstones, chimes and figures dedicated to St. Francis of Asisi. There is no real parking lot to speak of but you can park on the gravel near the opening of cemetery. Also, there are no real bathrooms here. There is a port o potty but it's super gross so be aware to take care of that somewhere else.

I really appreciate the inter-faith nature of this cemetery, and their championing of local artists with the installation of beautiful handcrafted monuments and grave markers. I also greatly respect the green burial practice that is an option at this cemetery. Our Lady of the Rosary is a beautiful, peaceful place to wander and reflect.

Directly on the side of the road you'll see a plaque for this cemetery which dates from the 1840s…read more It is a small cemetery of some family plots and randomly placed markers. Some of the headstones have been repaired and some still lie on the ground. As the plaque says, these graves belong to many of the early pioneers, of whom many died young. Many of these headstones belong to people in their 20s. The cemetery is probably just slightly larger than an acre and there are unmarked graves located here. The unmarked graves are marked with simple white crosses. If you're interested in local history, this is a point of interest.
