Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills was extraordinary, so extra loving and understanding and exactly what our family needed when my father passed. I cannot say enough kind words about this wonderful place when you are hurting so much. I'd like to thank Ashley, our main contact. Her love and compassion will never be forgotten. She has such a special gift. The world needs more Ashley's! I'd like to also thank Brianna, Lauren and Kaitlan, without all of your help, love, patience and compassion, I'm not sure we could have gotten through this without all of you by our sides. Cook-Waldon will forever have a special place in the Staniszewski families heart! Thank you! April

The staff at this facility is top-notch class. They were very welcoming and comforting. The…read moreeulogy was very well presented and the clergy's singing was a nice surprise. The chapel isn't setup with your typical church pews. It was arranged more like a wedding reception. After the eulogy was done we were offered a refreshments bar with sandwiches, snack trays and drinks. Unfortunately, times of loss can bring out the worst in some people and they don't always choose to be respectful of others and decided to make the day about their drama and take away from others' abilities to show their respects to the deceased. Well let me tell you, this place has got you covered. They have protocols in place just for that type of situation. We knew going into a recent service that one of the guests was likely to have unpleasant outbursts. There were uniformed police officers in the corners of the rooms without being a distraction. Because the funeral directors were aware of this risk, I'm happy to say that the service was conducted peacefully and we were able to make the day about what it should have been, a time to mourn our loved one and be there to support the family, not be on edge waiting for unnecessary drama to unfold. Everyone working here truly conducted themselves with class.

It is surrounded on all sides by new apartments and businesses and a car dealership. Fortunately a landscaping company has been overseeing the conditions and there are many old growth live oaks providing much shade. There is a short driveway on which to park on, but no road running through it and it is surrounded by a 4 foot perimeter fence. The cemetery is about an acre, perhaps larger in size. The majority of the graves found here date from the late 1800s and the newest ones I could find was a WW1 sevice member buried here in 1975. There was also another WWII service member buried here in 1993 whose picture is included in this review. Some of these gravemarkers actually tell some interesting stories as are pictured below in the review. There are freed slaves and American native Indians buried here. And like a lot of cemeteries from this time period, there are several infants and young children found interred here. Boatright is a recognizable historicle name found here and more Boatrights can be found at the Oak Grove cemetery 5 miles away on Spicewood Springs Rd. There is a small rocky memorial wall which is dedicated to all the lost and unidentifiable graves. Judging by the lack of any burials past the 1990s, I think it's safe to assume this is no longer an active cemetery. If you enjoy walking through old cemeteries, this landmark should be added to your list.
