I'm going to start by saying. This place would be 5 stars if it was cleaner. It really needs some attention to cleanliness. The gal at the front counter was helpful because I didn't know what to order. I ended up with the big double combo with a coke, Cajon fries and a ranch chicken wrap. I added a strawberry shake and it was still under $15. My burger was great. The cajon fries were cooked to perfection but all of the seasoning was caked on in 1 spot. Chicken wrap was a solid add on with the meat to sauce ration being solid. The Strawberry shake has small bit of strawberry and it tastes real. No fake flavoring here. Overall I was pleased the value was outstanding. Attention to detail in sanitizing would really be the only thing that is a big no. Good thing they do a bang up drive thru business. read more

On 2/27/25 at 625p my family and I ate here for the first time and we gotta say not impressed at all. My 7 year old boy ordered a hot dog and couldn't eat it cuz it tasted burnt. My 11 year old girl had a burger w/ cheese with walking taco. Burger came slathered in mayo, mustard and ketchup and mine was equally just as gross. Her and I got both got walking tacos as well and the chili was so dry and tasted cheap. My wife had burger,fries, and onion rings. She compared it to tasting like gas station food. The price for all this mess was priced ok but still doesn't make up for how bad it was. Food wasn't warm or even close to it. The guy at the counter help us understand the menu so that was cool. I had never heard of this place until my son moved to Maryville. When visiting him, we went through the drive thru here. The employees are friendly and they work quickly! We order trays. You chose your main item and a choice of two sides. Some of the sides are like an extra meal, it was so hard to decide. I ordered a burger with hush puppies and Cajun fries. The hush puppies are SO GOOD!! You also get a drink and you can swap your soda for a, get this...MILKSHAKE!!! Yes please and thank you!! The options for a shake were overwhelming. About 25 different shake options and they will customize it if those options aren't right for you. I'm a plain old gal...I just got a chocolate shake. It was super thick and delicious! Grab a spoon!! Before I travelled back home, we did another Cookout drive by. This time I got a burger, quesadilla and a ranch chicken wrap. The wrap was great too!! Don't forget the hush puppies!! I've always wanted to try them, as I have heard great things about their milkshakes. While in TN, my friends and I had the opportunity to stop and grab lunch along the way to our final destination. Due to safety precautions, you could only order through the drive thru or their walk-up window. Since it was the middle of the lunch rush, we just walked up. The young man ( Isaiah I believe) that took our order answered all of our questions, including those related to my food allergy. Our food came out hot and fresh and we were all pretty pleased. This was the worst cookout I have ever been to. I am a big cookout advocate and understand that I get what I am paying for. At this cookout they did not have any cheddar cheese curds, cheese shreds, and would not put any cheese on my wrap even though they were able to give me a cheese quesadilla and cheeseburger. If they were not able to give me a cheese burger I would not be angry, but the fact that they picked what products they wanted to put cheese on was aggravating. 10/10 would not go again. We were over charged for our drinks. Ordered regular, should be $1.69, we were charged for larges, $1.99. My burger was burnt in the bottom. My son ordered the spicy, CRISPY chicken sandwich, he got chargrilled, Cancun sandwich. The whole dining room smells like pee. No ketchup available. I spoke to the manager about the burger, he offered to make something new, but I was full and didn't accept it. He was very kind. Also, I am not a Christian, I don't not like to listen to Christian music. Nothing against it, I just do not like listening to it. They had their music set to a Christian station. Can I give less stars? Stopped in for lunch around 1:45 yesterday. The place was fairly empty. The cashier was a pleasant young man who explained a few menu items as this was our first visit. As I'm ordering I hear what sounds like a young woman's voice from the kitchen yelling and laughingly using very foul language. "This sh*t is fuc**ed up!". "blah blah fuc**in a**hole, blah blah haha". My family sat down to wait for our food and had to listen to long loud very unprofessional language that went on and on. We got our lunch, ate a small amount of it and quickly left. We have no desire to return and will steer our friends elsewhere. This was one of the worse dining experiences I've had in Maryville. Poor management and badly trained staff. I'm glad there weren't more people present to hear this garbage! BTW the food wasn't that good either. I had a walking taco that had sour cream all over the outside of the wrapper, my daughters chicken tasted old, my other daughter suggested we go next door to McDonalds for edible food instead. It was my 1st time visiting any Cook Out restaurant. I was happy with our visit. We ordered a cheeseburger and fries, chicken quesadillas, corn dogs and cheese curds (I think they were called). My family was pleased with our meal. The girl at the register was very polite and seemed experienced at her job. The food came out quickly and correctly and was tasty. The total price of the meal for four was very decent. My complaints: there was no ketchup dispenser (we had to ask for packets, and I eat a lot of ketchup...I found some packets on empty, clean tables) and everything is served as take-out style. I guess it does make it easier for the staff to serve food that way, with less dishes to wash. They're drive-thru seemed to be busy and was still moving along. This was my first bbq joint when I came to town. The food was eatable. As soon as we walked in the floor was wet and slippary. I has to walk slow so I would slip and fall. Then I ordered food. One of the soda machine was just pumping out water. Then I tried to look for ketchup packets. Interestingly I had to ask for it. The staff was less than entusiastic with a straight face. As someone with plenty of experience in the food industry, I witnessed the most heinous health code violation at this cookout tonight. I'm still shaking. I saw an employee tear open a cup with a milkshake in it and scrape the milkshake from that cup into another cup with her long acrylic nails and gloveless hands. This seemed so normal to her and she didn't even hide the act from the guests outside the window. After she finished committing the crime, she wiped off her hands with a dirty towel, and put the finishing touches on the shake. I feel actual guilt in my heart for not telling the employees to remake the shake, knowing the kind of filth that is under human fingernails, especially during the flu season. My deepest condolences to thecat behind me that consumer that milkshake. I am so sorry. Update: went there a second time and saw the same exact lady sticking her fingers in another milkshake. Went with family to enjoy a nice cheap meal out, since there's 10 of us, the entire time two girls who did not like me were slacking off on their job and gossiping about me. My mom heard one of them say "who has the balls to bring her here?" I was too shook up by everything that was happening that I could not eat. Well, my wife and I have eaten here a few times since October 2016. We wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. No way. Each time progressively worse than the time before. Every time we've each had a burger. The first time was great the next six times not so great. Yesterday, 4/4/2017 was the absolute worst burgers we have ever had. They were COLD and we waited in line as they made two cheese burgers with mustard onion and pickles. One burger was made correctly but COLD the other burger was plain with cheese and COLD they fries were cold and soggy, they UNSWEET TEA was sweet tea WRONG. I like cookout. They have good food, a clean building, and great shakes! The downside is that it is the highschooler hangout in town and the parking lot is always loud and rowdy. I've seen kids making quick drug deals by the dumpsters. They really really need to figure out what to do about that because a lot of people avoid cookout due to that now. I had to visit this place (10/31/13) to see what all the hub-bub was all about. Cars are always lined up way past the drive through at lunch time so I figured it must be good. I decide to grab a few burgers on the way home from work around 6:00. Not many people in line or inside. The cashier at the window was a spaz! She wasn't friendly AT ALL, snatched the money out of my hand so fast, my change almost went flying. When she went to hand me my $2 in change, she snatched her hand back so fast before my hand had a chance to close and the money floated away into the parking lot. Now she's more frazzled and shoves another $2 in my face and says, "here". She must have had a really bad day to say the least. I got my food without another word from Ms. Personality. I bring my burgers home (I got two Huge Burgers done up Steak Style). I didn't have time to eat them right away but I get burgers from other places to go and don't eat them for hours later and they heat up just fine. Anyway, I open up the burgers and the buns have completely turned to mush. Disgustingly wet bread. The lettuce and tomato look like they have been cooked to death! Slimy and floppy. The burgers were so well done they were hard and dry. I managed to scrape the buns off the "meat" patties and put them in my toaster oven to dry out a little as I had no other bread in the house for a substitute. I just threw away the veggies as they were not edible at all. All in all, the only thing that was good was the grilled flavor of the meat. That's it! I like to give restaurants a second chance so I will go back one more time in hopes there will be a better cashier and cook! P.S. If Cook Out reads these reviews, here's a tip. Wrapping your burgers in aluminum foil is trapping too much heat in and if you steam the buns, they will all be mush in no time. All other hamburger places wrap them in paper or put them in burger boxes. The bun never gets mushy. Common sense. Not sure what your cooks did to the veggies though. My family and I come thru the drive thru the woman on the speaker listened then get out order the receipt said Dr Pepper I got tea asked for no lettuce in my Cajun wraps lettuce was in all of them ordered and tasted terrible even after the lettuce was removed and made completely wrong it said no lettuce on the receipt then when I turn around and go back the manager never even apologized and there was another guy in front of me and his order was messed up as well! The best thing for this place is fire the manager and cook and hire a manager with people skills and a cook who can read!!!!!!!! I would post the receipt but she took it! We've eaten here twice, had to wait in line both times. Worth it for the burgers... Their burgers are inexpensive, and taste pretty much like homemade on the backyard grill.....and it tastes like real beef.....which itself is remarkable in the world of burgers these days. Their combos are very inexpensive....but they're also the size of "happy meals", which happen to be served next door to this place on Lamar Alexander Pkwy......so if you are a normal size adult, order two of the doubles and you'll be satisfied, and get a triple order of fries.....very good fries too, just crispy enough and hot. The iced tea and beverages are serve yourself from urns, fountains, etc. Good, sweet tea. Crowded with younger and college age kids both times we've been, if you can grab a booth, hold onto it !! Really......this place is BUSY at the dinner hour. A couple of cons....the chicken fingers or tenders are nothing more than McNuggets, very disappointing.....Stick with the burgers ! And the cashiers don't win prizes for their friendliness, but they are efficient and precise, and they are handling lines of people and getting it right on our visits. We will go back.....recommended. Oh.....they have specialty milkshakes, like peanut butter etc....hubby says it was good, but a little too rich with all the food. He also tried the Cheerwine shake.....he doesn't recommend that one, and he loves Cheerwine. Check it out. Update: Jan 25, 2014 After a few more visits, we are now seeing the mediocre meat that is served in fast food joints everywhere being used in the burgers here !! and the fries are no longer so crispy, and they have reduced the portions of fries.
