I'm a fan of Cook Out's burgers and chili dogs. The burgers always have fresh crisp lettuce. For me the lettuce, tomatoes, onion and a good bun makes an excellent burger. The chilli dogs remind me of Texas Wieners from my childhood days. Cook Out has the perfect recipe of chilli, cheese, mustard and onions on a soft hot dog bun. At one point this restaurant was a place I would go to on a weekly basis. I'm not sure what changed, but their prices skyrocketed, and their quantity and quality of food diminished. Since then, I've completely cut them as a food option and have avoided them for other places that are of better quality, quantity, value, and service. I am not surprised that lack of quality control is present across multiple locations. I have gotten 3 meals at 3 different locations in Gaston and Mecklenburg county and not of them have been correct. Does this failure constitute 3 strikes and your out. I pulled in to cook out and notice that line was wrap around the building at 12/24/2019 between 12:30am. I finally got my turn to order... Went for a birthday milkshake with my husband on 9/17. It was about 1:30 AM and we were stopping on our way home after a night out. I usually love a cookout milkshake, but this time I was disgusted. I ordered a Reese's shake and when it came out it was double cupped. Wasn't sure why, until I took a bite and got a mouth full of styrofoam. I guess when it was being mixed, a hole was punctured into the bottom of the cup and instead of remaking it, they just double cupped it, leaving the styrofoam in the milkshake. Unfortunately I didn't realize until we were already back on the interstate headed home. But from previous experience the employees here are usually rude anyway. Threw away our time and money. After a 25 minute wait, my chicken quesadilla was completely undercooked, barely warm, and the cheese was cold and still shredded, not at all melted. Husband ordered a honey mustard wrap with no cheese... we got cheese everywhere and were given the wrong wrap. Everything was cold and terrible. Milkshake is classically undrinkable because it isnt properly mixed so you can't sip it through the straw. Never ever again. Cook out came to the rescue! We arrived in Charlotte and were starving, but still in a rush to get to our final destination in Asheville. While we could've just as easily stopped for lackluster fast food á la Mickey D's, we came to realize that Cook Out is kind of a "thing" in these parts, so we gave it a shot. I like that you can build an interesting meal including sides like corn dogs. The burger was the winner here, so I'd recommend you go with that. I've eaten at several Cook Out locations and this one isn't necessarily the best one. There have been a few issues with correct orders in the past. I recently visited and had a BBQ tray with a milk shake. Milk shake was made super quick and nearly melted by the time I received it. Stopped in here on the way back home from Asheville because I was craving some French fried junk food. The line was long so I was hoping I'd hit French fry heaven. However this was NOT the case. I got the cheese fries and hushpuppies. The hushpuppies has a sweetness to them, but otherwise were very tasteless. I had to put ketchup on them to liven them up and even then I could only get a few down. The fries - while large cut were soggy and then the cheese - disgusting. It's defiantly the out of a can crap you find at ball games to pump out onto your hot dogs. Maybe this is OK for some, but yuck. Is it too hard to shred some real cheese to sprinkle on there? I've never used the walk up window so this is from a drive thru only perspective. The bbq can sort of be a too spicy mush that you don't get sauce for, so generally speaking I pass on their bbq. Their burgers are okay but I usually like bacon on my burgers and their bacon while light years ahead of mcdonalds or bk is still undercooked and very pink so I pass on the burgers too. I only had their chili cheese fries a few times because I prefer REAL cheese (shredded, not Velveeta ejaculate). I get their quesadillas in a cook out tray, I order them plain cheese without the (very spicy for my tastes) queso sauce. Sometimes they get this right. The order accuracy is pretty hit or miss and seems to be independent of if they're busy or not. The shakes are pretty good and their sweet tea is the best! The only true gripe I have with this place is they no longer use bags, so if you have a order for more than one person or need condiments it gets tricky to carry all that in one go. And because they no longer use bags to give your food to you, you'll never get a condiment unless you ask for it. read more

I could hear screaming/yelling Over the mic while my order was being taken (which made my order difficult to get for the employee working - so i had to yell my order). This location is absolutely horrible. Went through the drive through and repeated the order FOUR times. Repeated chicken tender tray with double order of Cajun fries three times; on the fourth repeat it translated into a chicken sandwich, plain. That's fine, but when we got the tray the chicken sandwich was LOADED with grilled onions and the bread was completely saturated with grease - it was inedible. Also, fries were plain and not Cajun.
