I am a huge fan of cookout since we moved to Virginia. The portions are generous for most items, the food tastes, good, and it is really inexpensive for what you get. It's usually around eight bucks for a tray with a main entrée and two sides. And either a large drink, or a medium milkshake. I usually go with the burger, which is always delicious and has a nice variety of toppings that is pretty standard to what you can get at most places for no charge. For my sides, I like the honey, mustard, chicken wrap, and the chicken quesadilla. They are both delicious and filling. I have never had a bad milkshake here, every flavor I have tried so far is delicious. I've also gotten the floats and a very large soda on days when I'm thirsty. My kids usually end up with some combination of corndogs or fries or things like that with their combos. The corndogs are always nice and perfectly crispy, which they like. This is a walkout or drive-through place, so there's usually not any ambience to speak of, but I generally prefer getting my food to go and then eating in the comfort of my own home anyway, so I do appreciate that they have always been very fast and I have - knock on wood - never gotten a wrong order from them. They are very careful packing up the food to make sure you get everything in your order. I also like that it is wrapped up nice and tidy so you don't end up with mustard and ketchup all over the chicken wrap. I love this place and always look for a reason to go. I have never been there before, and I asked for a second to look at the menu. The woman in the speaker was rude and pushy. I ordered tomato (because it costs extra) and she said, "didn't you already say you wanted everything on it" She was unnecessarily loud, angry and rude to me. Then I got my tray at the next window. My onion rings order consisted of 4 tiny onion rings, and although I WAS charged for the tomato, there was no tomato on my burger. We weren't sure about eating here because there was a busload of teenagers in line. But we decided to try it anyway. The employees did an amazing job getting the food out fast and the food was delicious. And talk about inexpensive! I haven't seen such good prices in a decade. I do love this location I've been in this area for 2 years now and I've always gotten fast and good service. All the trays are delicious as well as the shakes I love the blueberry cheesecake!! We visited around 7 or 8 pm during the week. We had no problems with our order. I got a bbq and a butterfinger shake. He got a burger with a chocolate shake. We shared an order of onion rings. Everything was delicious and the shakes were incredible. Plus it was pretty cheap! The bbq is minced pork with a NC vinegar based sauce, in case you're curious. We ate in our car - I don't even know if they have seating? It was my first time at Cook Out. Service was okay. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad like some reviews noted. read more

My granddaughter enjoyed the food, but I had an issue with how long the cashier kept my bank card, especially after she gave it back. She then picked up her cellphone from the same area. I am concerned that she took pictures of the front and back of my card while she was supposedly cleaning the area while waiting for my food. I have my receipt with her name. I was super amped to try this simply because I was traveling through the south and wanted to have bbq even if it was from a fast food restaurant. It was exactly as promised, which is what I should have expected. It was not super soaked with flavor, nor a unique variety of foods but it was very decent. I enjoyed it for what it was. Had my first Cookout experience today...to weary to drive to Kings. BBQ sandwich, no slaw, and fries. The BBQ was decent, but why they use Texas Pete as the "sauce" is a mystery to me. That's a hot sauce and if I want that I'll use Shriracha. Fries and buns were ok, I suspect from Sysco or US Foods. Didn't get a milkshake today, but maybe next time. One thing that really irked me was on both the french fry bag and take out bag was a patriotic statement followed by a bible citation. Really? The last two times I have been to this cookout the food has been terrible, the food the first time I went the char grill chicken breast sandwich chicken breast was burnt and black and the size of a pepperoni and the fries was brown and burnt, took it back and told them about it and got the food back again and it was not any better, the food there use to be good, but now it is the worst. read more

Came here twice in the last month. The first visit I ordered a tray with hush puppies and fries as a side and they gave me a corn dog. My friend who is vegetarian also ordered a cheese quesadilla and they gave her a tray with chicken quesadillas. I came back to this location by myself today, and ordered a tray again, a coke as the drink and a separate milkshake. They got the tray right, but there were two large burnt chunks of something in it, and they forgot to give me my coke. When I mentioned it the girl at the drive thru, she grabbed whatever drink was in front of her which was a sweet tea(no ice), and to top it off my milkshake had a hole in the bottom so it leaked all over my car. read more

The food here is good & cheap. My absolute favorite is the orange push up milkshake. The only downside to this location is that it does not have indoor dining. There are a few benches outside that you can sit on, but no tables. read more
