Workers are so rude for no reason. Typical cookout. Act like it's an inconvenience to do their job.

So I get to the drive-through speaker to place an order, and there is literally no one here not only did the person not respond for probably two or three minutes at this speaker, but they completely ignored everything I said. I ordered a big double tray with cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise and I receive a big double with ketchup, cheese and lettuce. I really didn't put one in one together until I noticed this because the kid was super cool until he handed me my bag and for whatever reason he was laughing like someone told him the funniest joke you've ever heard in his life, now when I get home 15 minutes later, and I realize that he was probably laughing because he completely screwed my order up intentionally and he knew that it wasn't correct. The even worst part is, this company is so pathetic that I can't simply just request a refund. I have to literally drive back to the location and speak with a manager in order to even have a thought in the world about a refund. I am sick and tired of companies like this. Literally screw in your stuff up and then causing more of a hassle for you because now I have to drive my v8 M3 all the way back which will probably cost me 5 to 6 dollars in gas just to get a refund for eight dollar meal that was screwed up. This is pathetic. I will never eat coconuts again for the rest of my life. read more

Last evening on Feb-4-2024 between 7-8pm I visited your store located at: 9705 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28262. My wife and I order two milkshakes and at the time of the order were the only people in the walk up window area. After taking the order the cashier went to work on other tasks in the store over by the milkshake machine. Another girl them came to the register and took three orders while we waited for ours to be prepared. During that process the two shakes were placed next to the windows on the inside, ready to be handed out. Assuming she was busy I continued to wait. When she finished helping everyone I inquired if the shakes beside her were our order, adding one was butterfinger and the other was caramel. She rolled her eyes and looked past me asking if anyone else needed to order before she acknowledge my request. When no one did, she looked at the shakes and replied this is order #63. This had now been sitting there for a while and no one ever called out order #63 up to that point. Great, are those what I just inquired about? She said I have to have a receipt to get my order. Checking my pockets, I didn't have a receipt and again confirmed what I has just ordered and had been standing beside the window waiting for. She continued to dig her heel in that I cannot have my food without a receipt in a manner I found extremely rude and condescending. Given the logic trap she had laid before me, what am I supposed to do? She has the food, is refusing to give it to me, and I ackknowledged already I did not have a receipt. She smirked and continued repeating this... Given the circumstance the only option I had was to say if you would print a receipt and hand it to me, I'll be glad to hand it back to you for the shakes. She asked if I was given a receipt which was fairly obvious what would happen at this point if I had said yes. I'm 100% certain the original cashier did give me a receipt. I'm also certain while I was waiting in 40-degree weather it was disposed of and my hands remained in my pockets while I waited. The only reasonable option I was left with was to lie to this lady saying I didn't have one and perhaps I wasn't given one. She then turned to the original cashier (still by the shake machine) asking if I was given a receipt. The other girl said yes. She then rolled her eyes at me, while replying to the other girl saying "yes, I know you did". Then she handed the shakes to me begrudgingly. I find this entire interaction up to this point ridiculous behavior, a bit shocking, and leaving me uncertain what her issue was. As I continued to watch, not one person was challenged to present their receipt in order to receive their purchase, nor has this happened at this cookout or any other I've ever visited. Cashier generally have a sense of who's waiting on what, or at least make a good attempt to work with the dynamic situation and make the best out of it. To me if felt like this lady had an axe to grind and perhaps the guy she was looking at represented something else she had issue with. After this display of rudeness, and eventually receiving my order, I did look her directly in the eyes and give her my thoughts. While I may not have been polite at the end, did not feel or see how anything prior to that point could have been construed by anyone as anything other that a customer ordering their food and wanting to receive it in a friendly manner. The situation escalated because she acted passive aggressive and as if she has no concept of how the fast food industry works. I've not seen roving bandits attempting to steal milkshakes when its 40 degrees outside at 8pm. If that does become a thing, this girl is a superstar! Not only does Cookout Corporate take months to respond, but does NOTHING to make the situation better, aside from propose calling them again. They truly don't get it. Great burgers and shakes..open late..although the line was long, the drive thru moved fast

My partner and I came here for a late night snack. They have a drive through, and also an area where you can park and walk up to the window to order. They have a sign with their menu outdoor, and there's also seating outdoors. My partner did a junior burger, with a side of Cajun fries and a side of quesadilla and a bottle of water. When you order a box, you get two sides and a drink which is pretty cool. I ordered their chicken tenders -- you get 3 piece per order. My partner shared some of the Cajun fries with me, and it was delicious and perfectly seasoned. My chicken tenders were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and they are also decently sized considering you get 3 pieces. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for fast food, and they stay open until 4am which is convenient. read more

So I came through this cookout expecting something great. Possibly a milkshake so life changing i go out and discover the cure the cancer. But no, this cookout gave me quite the opposite. I went to the doctor after and they diagnosed me with PTSD. From now on whenever I hear the phrase, "cookie dough milkshake", I break out in cold sweats and get light headed. But anyways back to the story, I went through the line asking very little of the employees; 3 burgers, 2 trays, and 3 milkshakes. Pretty easy right? Apparently not. The food comes out in surprisingly good time, so kudos to them for that. But when we got our food and left we realized something was gravely wrong. The milkshakes - they were... it pains me to say this but, they were vanilla. I thought I clearly specified the flavors of my milkshakes. But apparently this cookout has other plans. I will give them credit because the rest of my order was good. So the moral of the story is don't get the milkshakes form cookout. Side note: when my doctor diagnosed me with PTSD she also diagnosed met with type 2 diabetes and short bowel syndrome. She also said I'm true leading cause of obesity in America. As part of my friend's tour of NC/South foods we stopped by here on a late night of drinking. One thing he says is that he can't get a peach cobbler shake on the west coast, well my friend you can get one here. Cook out is one of those places where only the south has. Sort of like In-n-Out is exclusive in West Coast, Cook Out is exclusive to the East Coast (mainly in the south). Now, what to order is what is first asked for newcomers. If you want shakes. Get a shake. Because from what shake lovers love about this place is that their shakes and variety of them is what makes this place amazing. To me, I'm not really a shake person, but if I did get one I wouldn't mind. For me, it's about the burgers. I like to get the Cook-Out style burger. It comes with Chili & Slaw, Mustard, and Onions on a good ol' burger. Get some onion rings, or some fried rice and call it a day (or night). So, if you're in NC and you see this around. When Cook Out first opened in the University area, I thought, "What's that?" A co-worker of mine was surprised that I had never heard of it and said we HAVE to go; they're so good. The catch was that we wanted to get away from work to eat lunch. So...we had to wait for the perfect day (not too hot, not too cold, and definitely not rainy) to go try it out because Cook Out is strictly a drive-thru with some outdoor seating. There is NO indoor seating. We get there and walk up to the window, where there's a large menuboard outside. My co-worker explained the menu to me: they have combos and you can pick from a list of sandwiches, side, and drink. So I did. All for under $5!! I kept saying, "And I get all that for under $5? And it's good?" Sure enough, he was right. For "fast food," everything was VERY good. Much better -- and cheaper! -- than any McDonald's combo. And the burgers taste like real burgers; not like whatever McDonald's tries to pass off as a burger. I recommend it for "on the go" lunches or dinners. The food tastes fresher and more "real" than fast food restaurants and you can't go wrong with their terrific prices. When in Charlotte you have to try this inexpensive fast food alternative! Ventured over to Cookout after the Brad Paisley concert and I was happy I did. Where else can you get a choice of burger, chicken, BBQ pork or a quesadilla with two sides and sweet tea for $5 bucks! And when I say "sides", that includes a whole corn dog. Since when is a corn dog a side? That was like a meal in itself. It was tasty and just what was needed at Midnight! The Hush puppies were great too. First of all the entire staff is extremely rude for no reason. We come through the line and order a cheese quesadilla tray with cheese bites and Cajun fries and also a chicken tender tray. Once we got our food we realized that the cheese quesadilla tray only had one quesadilla and only had 3 cheese bites. Usually I'd let it go I mean it's a freaking cookout tray. But now with inflation one tray is over NINE DOLLARS (which is ridiculous in it itself) so we go through the line again and very politely explain that our cheese quesadilla tray only had one quesadilla and only three cheese bites. The lady tells us a side of cheese bites only comes with three bites (girl what?) but to come forward and they'll give me another cheese quesadilla. Keep in mind staff is being extremely rude this entire time. We pull forward and got our food in a bag and go home. I ate a bit of my quesadilla and tasted meat and so I opened it up and it had beef in it. I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years so now I've been extremely sick I'm pretty sure I could sue. I've been eating at Cookout since the 90s; long before any existed in Charlotte. So, I know how things used to be. Decent service, hot fries, sufficient condiments and correct orders. This University location has degraded to mediocre at best. I typically don't leave reviews for fast food spots, but I had to complain about our most recent visit. In short, the order was partially wrong, fries were just "not cold", mostly stale and extremely small portions. We also received no napkins, no condiments and a bottled water at room temp. The worst part was the drive thru attendant. He said nothing upon opening the window; no greeting and no confirmation of my order. I handed him my card and he returned it to me behind his back while talking to a female coworker. He handed it back to me as if it were a baton and we were on a relay team. Ridiculous service at a ridiculous price. We are slowly eliminating visits to eating establishments around the city that don't deserve our hard earned money. This one just made the list. Located near Charlotte University City Area. We discovered Cook Out late one night after attending a concert at the nearby Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. It was after midnight on a Saturday night and as I drove by I noticed that Cook Out was really, really busy, that's often a good sign so I flipped a u-turn on Tryon St. and we pulled in to one of two drive-thru windows, since there was no indoor area. I ordered a "Huge Burger" and upgraded to "Cheddar Style". It turned out to be an excellent choice. A half pound double cheese burger with bacon and grilled onions. It was an excellent burger featuring 2 smaller but thick and tasty patties delivered piping hot. I was surprised that the cheese was a sauce, I believe a good real cheddar would be better, but I still enjoyed it. I also sampled the Hush Puppies, a corn fritter inspired finger food, the Hush Puppies were very good. But the highlight of the late night meal was the "Fancy" strawberry/banana shake, it was just awesome! I'd recommend Cook Out to good friends as one of my favorite reasonably priced fast food restaurants, especially for late night munchies. read more
