Always seeking out a bargain, I found myself sifting through a large sale basket of costume jewelry -- all for only $3 each -- and discovered three items to bring home. We also had a nice conversation with the owner. He told us a bit about his history. I was curious about the mix of new and old items. He told us he even has customers who collect certain things and will approach him to help fill in their collections. The hotel was built in the Spanish Colonial Revival-style of architecture and it opened in 1926 as the Alterep Hotel during Florida's wealthy land boom years. It's distinctive yellow color and history makes it one of the most recognizable buildings in Delray Beach. The are several little shops in this area of the building including Beach Paradise, a women's clothing store and a gift shop, Just Hearts. Salutations of Delray was started by Diana Bush in 2004 as a result of searching for invitations to purchase for her daughters upcoming wedding. They specialize in custom wedding invitations and announcements along with custom stationary and greeting cards. Other things they carry included linen towels with funny phrases, Pampa Bay tableware, Nora Fleming stoneware, Thymes Frasier Fir candles and diffusers, items that can be personalized, children's gifts. and party supplies. The store motto is "Everyday is an occasion...celebrate in style!" Writing a letter and personalized stationary seems to be a kind of lost art in the email world of today and I love that you can rediscover that here. I've studied astrology for twelve years, with certifications through astrological associations and coursework in calculation, Hellenistic and medieval astrology, and fixed stars. Apparently, none of that was going to interfere with this man's opportunity to give me a lesson. They had astrology books, and I've since read that they bought the former owner's collection. I met Tamas Burger about ten years ago, he had genuine knowledge of the occult and astrology. Whatever he received for those books, I hope it was enough to soften the disappointment of seeing what passes for expertise here. My experience felt entirely superficial: a shop full of things that look spiritual or occult, without the depth of knowledge I expected behind them. It felt less like a thoughtfully curated bookstore and more like an internet shopping cart with incense burning. Buying the stock is not the same as knowing the subject.

I especially loved the llama pens and screen wipes that clip onto your key chains, so clever! You know you are in a great shop when you start picking up things for yourself. They have souvenirs and kitschy stuff, and they have items you'd want to buy for your home. They have hats and accessories. honey and jams and jellies, windchimes, and hanging ornaments, key chains and eyeglass holders, pictures and wall hangings, etc. I wear pierced earrings and there were plenty of these, but just a note that there was an older lady shopping at the time we were there who was thrilled to see a large selection of clip-on earrings. They were snowbirds and stop by each year to buy gifts and she gets a new pair of earrings (or more) for herself. The shop owner is quite friendly and personable. If you have question or need any help finding something, don't be afraid to ask. She obviously enjoys her job and interacting with the public. The inspiration for Beresford Manor came from the owners trips to France where they embraced the phrase art de vivre which translates to English as the art of living. The shop opened in 1993 and they have been in business for 30 years in downtown Lake Worth. As soon as you open the door you feel welcomed in both English and French. I came in looking for a birthday gift for a friend who loves lavender. I found the perfect item on a cart filled with bath items made with lavender from Provence. The narrow store is long and there are several rooms of linens, kitchen items, accessories, folding umbrellas, and personal care items from all over France. The melamine serving trays and bright colored placemats were especially pretty. They had a great selection of dish towels too as well as gorgeous fabric and wall paper so you can give your home the French country look. Prices ranged from a few dollars to much more.
