The pediatric providers are excellent. They're intelligent, well trained, and seem to care about their patients.

Dr. Van was so unbelievably accommodating and put me and my 10 year-old son at ease during a very traumatic time. My twin boys have been seeing Dr. Van for many years now and our experience has always been amazing - everything from regular cleanings to needing teeth pulled and orthodontic recommendations, to our current situation. I cannot say enough good things - I wish I could give 100 stars.

We had an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience at this practice. The physician remained largely inaccessible, hiding behind office staff until the very end of the process. Overall, our experience was riddled with incompetence, unprofessionalism, unethical behavior, and deception. My daughter had braces placed here and remained under their care for about 5-6 months before we moved out of the area. Below is a summary of the major issues we encountered -- both during treatment and while transferring to a new orthodontist. 1. Constantly Broken Brackets Almost every visit involved repairing broken brackets -- something we never experienced with our two older children who completed orthodontic treatment elsewhere. The staff repeatedly blamed my daughter, claiming she was eating "hard foods," even when the bracket broke after biting into something as soft as a French fry. Having to return after nearly every routine appointment for broken brackets is highly unusual and concerning. 2. Obstacles in Transferring Records When we requested treatment records after moving, we were told we had to come in person to sign a release -- despite living over 60 miles away. This is not compliant with HIPAA, which requires practices to release records upon a patient's written request without unnecessary barriers. The delay in transferring records to our new orthodontist caused a significant treatment gap, leaving my daughter with broken brackets for an extended period. It took multiple follow-up calls before anything was finally sent. This behavior was both unethical and unprofessional. 3. Extremely Limited Orthodontist Availability The orthodontist was only available Tuesday through Thursday with limited hours. Emergencies or urgent concerns outside those times were left unaddressed. For a medical practice handling active orthodontic cases, this lack of accessibility is unacceptable. 4. Dishonest and Inconsistent Refund Process When we moved, we were told we'd receive only 50% of what we paid -- despite my daughter having completed only 5-6 months out of a 30-month treatment plan. Even their office manager, Daniela, admitted that the fair and standard approach would be a prorated refund of about 80%, but could not justify why the office offered only 50%. They also tried to change the documented treatment time from 30 months to 24 months, reducing our rightful refund. Additionally, although we paid $6,100 out of pocket, the practice also billed our insurance, which wasn't factored into the refund discussion. The entire situation was handled with dishonesty and questionable ethics. 5. Unprofessional Conduct by the Physician After weeks of back-and-forth with staff, the physician finally joined a call -- only to speak in a rude and unprofessional manner. By that point, I had dealt with their team nearly ten times and had lost confidence in the integrity of the practice. Given the repeated mismanagement and lack of accountability, I requested a full refund, which I have yet to receive. Final Thoughts This practice appears to care more about money than patients. Our experience reflects a lack of professionalism, poor patient care standards, and questionable ethics. I would strongly advise families to look elsewhere for orthodontic care.

From the receptionist/ scheduler Karen, to the hygienist Alex, and of course the dentist, Dr. Chiou. Every point of contact I made has blow me away with their friendliness, professionalism and knowledge. We moved to Newton right before the pandemic and we have been looking for a dental practice for our family to call home. I came here after having not the best experience in another practice (which took all the courage in me to get to), I thought I'd give this highly rated practice a shot and get a second opinion. I am so glad I did. Dr. Chiou picked up the phone and spoke to me PRIOR to my appointment and gave me an overview of what dental work might be needed after looking at my X-rays. After learning about my absolute fear of Novocain, he reassured me that everything was going to be ok. The hygienist Alex was actually the one who gave me the Novocain, and performed my deep cleaning and she is amazing- skilled, patient and gentle. She made my whole experience beyond bearable and frankly, painless! The office is modern, clean, and awkwardly calming for a dental office. I have even sent my husband in and he couldn't be more happy and impressed. Thank you again, everyone at Newton dental group!

We hyped up the idea of going to the dentist, starting a couple weeks before the visit, and telling him that brushing his teeth at home was the way he'd end up getting a balloon at the dentist's office. The waiting room is filled with exactly the kinds of toys he loves, so he was instantly happy to be there. The dental hygenist was very friendly and sweet, helping him settle in to the big chair while explaining to us some basic concepts of healthy diet and how it affects teeth. We don't have a TV and don't allow screens but they brilliantly have a projector above the chair - so I'm not sure if this would be as enchanting for a kid who is used to TV but for our son, he was fascinated. It distracted him enough throughout the visit so there was no fuss, no resistance...full cooperation as his teeth were counted. The dentist and hygienist both sing as they're doing different procedures. They let him feel the electronic tooth polisher on his finger before polishing his teeth. I'm so glad we started him early and hope we can continue to keep on top of his dental hygiene. I highly recommend you bring your young child(ren) here.

I was told I could be helped at a reasonable cost, but I ended up being charged around $1,800 for two molar fillings. The pricing was not clearly explained upfront. When I expressed concern about the cost, the response I received felt dismissive and unprofessional, implying that I should be able to afford it rather than addressing my concerns or explaining the charges. I recently checked and confirmed that the same main dentist is still practicing there. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this office, especially if you value transparency and clear communication about pricing.

When I reached the office's voicemail at 16:50 on a Friday, I left a message requesting a return call. Since the following Monday was a holiday, I didn't expect to hear back until Tuesday. When I didn't, I called and reached a young woman who asked me if I was hoping to make the appointment for myself. Dr. Hanna only treats children, she informed me. However, MassHealth's dental directory search data lists him as a general dentist who works with patients aged 18 to 65. In my experience, dentists who treat adults also see pediatric patients, with the only exception to this being children who need to be sedated during treatment. She made no mention of having received a voicemail from me that she hadn't gotten around to replying to. I made sure to tell her to have MassHealth correct its directory data. The receptionist's Spanish accent and use of "aks" instead of "ask" made it seem like she might be an imposter, part of a group who stalk and harass me, preventing me from getting medical and dental care, being treated fairly in job interviews, etc. They intercept my calls to businesses and have their overly-regionally-dialected or unusually-surly people give incorrect information to ensure that I can't get whatever service I'm in need of. If you know who they are, please let me know. But, you may also want to avoid Dr. Hanna because his office staff doesn't return calls from prospective patients, and he may only perform pediatric dentistry. Also, a Yelp ad for a Dorchester office location he supposedly practices from was missing a comma that should have been placed after the D.D.S. suffix.

Firstly, the place is super modern, clean and a pleasant office to be in. Really helps when you're going in for dental procedures! For cleanings, I've had Aimee (the one that used to work in SF) and she's wonderful. Just like my great experience in SF, the cleaning is not stressful and actually quite delightful. She also shows the problem areas that I've had with plaque build up. For other dental operations, I've had Dr. Kwak. She is truly an amazing dentist and person. I had to get some cavities filled in between my back two teeth. I've got quite a bad gag reflex so you can imagine how bad it is to do anything back there. The procedure was quite a struggle for me, having to take breaks and triggering my gag reflex. Dr. Kwak was super calm the entire time and was not annoyed or frustrated at the situation. Her attention to detail for making the patient comfortable is super admirable. When numbing your teeth, she hides the needle out of your view - something small, but helps the patient not freak out. I had to come back for a refilling due to a gap. I was honestly terrified of the operation given what I experienced the first time. But she managed to complete the whole operation in less than 10 minutes and it was 10000x better than I anticipated. It's a bit inconvenient for me to come, but given my experiences here, I'd come back again and again. And possibly even look forward to it.

I scheduled fillings specifically around insurance coverage, but when I arrived I was booked for a completely different procedure that my dentist had never explained to me. I then received appointment reminders for visits I never scheduled, and when I called they admitted it was a mistake. I was also told I owed a balance that I had already paid in full (my insurance reimburses me after the fact), and the office could not clearly explain why the charge appeared or why they told me I had already paid. I was then told that they forgot to submit my claim to my insurance. My hygienists were great, but I don't recommend this office if you have anxiety or don't have time to constantly correct scheduling/billing issues yourself.
