As a veterinarian, I can tell when someone is doing a thorough exam, and she was very thorough. After explaining my problem and my options to me very carefully, I decided with her support not to pursue orthodontic treatment, so I will not be visiting there anymore. However, any orthodontist who forgoes business by letting a prospective patient know that they don't need braces gets five stars in my book. I think her clinical judgment is sound and she is trustworthy. If you are visiting Dr. Zhang's office in Roslindale for the first time, do not follow directions from googlemaps or mbta.com, they put this address over a mile down the road from where it actually is.

Sooo I had to take her out of school for the day, which kind of sucks. To be honest the front desk staff wasn't exactly the warmest group of people I'd ever met. They weren't miserable or anything, but for the first face you see, you kind of expect people to really wow you, you know? Especially as a first-time patient. Then the aha! factor set in. A couple of kids were leaving (twins?) who were probably 6. The mom was a total aloof mess. She sneezed several times without covering her mouth. Gross. And one of the kids was a total nightmare. Fittingly, she was wearing a t-shirt that said "Princess". Yeah, internal groan. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH. Seriously this kid made me want to punch the glass out of the aquarium and gag her with one of the cichlids. SO bratty. Crying and whining. Crying like someone had just murdered the puppy that their recently-deceased wife had left them. That's actually the plot of John Wick. Let's face it, Keanu is great in action movies, but he can't handle the nuanced magic of Leading Man. Anyway, the kid is FREAKING out. Because she didn't get a sticker. My six year old just looked at me with the knowing side-eye and raised eyebrow. Suddenly I realized why the front desk had that look, and the rule was "not before noon". I had seen that look before. It was the same look I had when my kids were toddlers. I went from feeling slight annoyance to a deep empathy that left me in awe that these people could muster any kind of pleasantries at all. They work at a DENTAL office. With TODDLERS. Jesus H. Christmas everyone here deserves a gold star and a deep hug for taking on such a loathsome job. Our appointment went swimmingly. Heather, the hygienist was great. She had the same faraway look of desperation, but she was much better at feigning happiness than the front desk. Even managed to laugh at five of my terrible jokes. I counted. She gave my kid TWO prizes from the prize drawer. Did I mention there's a prize drawer? I hope that the staff has a prize drawer filled with vodka nips that they get to imbibe upon completion of their shift. Dr. Ficarelli blew my mind. I can't imagine how many times a day he does that Daffy Duck voice, or acts like everyone's children are precious and interesting. I was truly in awe of how happy he seemed to be about his job. I mean, I guess he does get paid a hell of a lot more than the rest of them, but still. Dang, dude. Life is a garden, and he's digging it. Two thumbs up. Bottom line: Would recommend.

I have been going to Newton Dental Associates for about eight years. I see Dr. Osofvsky and she's…read moregreat; very kind, always willing to listen to and address concerns. In the last few years Annette has been my hygienist. She is very nice and super gentle. I have receding gums and some sensitivity as a result but Annette is so meticulous, I never feel the cleaning in any of those sensitive spots. The office is relatively newly renovated, so it's comfortable and bright waiting room to sit in before your appointment begins. They're always pretty close to on time. Even in the middle of the day I don't think I've had to wait more than ten or so minutes for my appointment to begin. I always leave with my teeth clean and bright. They're the first to offer me a fluoride treatment for my sensitive teeth/gums despite complaints of the issue for years prior and that's been amazing! They did my full Invisalign program and they were great. My teeth had this issue where when I closed my mouth the top and bottom molars didn't touch. They even offered a treatment that expedited how quickly the teeth move (science!). I see a lot of complaints about billing and pricing. So they do charge you for services. Their services are covered by my dental insurance and I haven't found the out of pocket costs outlandish. Where certain amounts are not covered I receive a bill in the mail after insurance adjustments. Seems pretty standard. While I'm sure they would be able to help a prospective patient determine if their dental insurance was accepted, that is an essential step that you have to take as a patient with any healthcare provider. They are very thorough and I'm sure they charge accordingly. I have been to some shady dentists and the cost reflected that. I agree it's not ideal to have to pay so much for needed healthcare services, but this is less a Newton Dental Associates problem and more a state of American healthcare problem.

I am a teacher who had to take time off of school to come to this appointment. If respect is an important asset for a doctors office of any kind do not come to this office.
