Was in Oliver for the annual Pig Out festival and needed dinner one night. With the limited options in Oliver, my boyfriend and I decided to drive over to Osoyoos for a meal out and walked into Convivia Bistro. As a walk in, they didn't have any table for two available so we sat at the bar where we received absolutely great service from Juan. When hearing my boyfriend was still sobering up from the Pig Out event, Juan immediately got us a basket of complimentary bread and butter plus asked if my boyfriend would like some club soda, in addition to the jug of water - what a sweetheart! We started off with the goat cheese salad, Artic Char, a side of garlic bread, and the cream brulee. The goat cheese was deep fried and was warm, slightly salty, but not greasy at all and was so so good as a salad dish. It's completely different from all the goat cheese salads I've ever had and I highly recommend trying this. The garlic bread was more for my boyfriend to sober up and he happily gobbled it up, despite not being hungry. The artic char along with shrimp was beautifully cooked with a gorgeous sauce that wasn't too heavy and rich. The baby potatoes and assorted veggies was absolutely delicious and it was a stand out dish. We were recommended to try the cream brulee, by a regular customer who was seated next to us, and my boyfriend said it was one of the best cream brulees he has ever had. I'm not a huge fan of desserts and enjoyed it - authentic brulee top that cracked beautifully along with an authentic vanilla bean custard without being overly sweet. Great ambiance, top notch service, and the most amazing food at reasonable prices for the quality and quantity. I only wish this restaurant was in Vancouver as I would be a frequent customer. I showed up today with a party of five. We were able to be seated with no issues and the service was fantastic. We ordered the escargot, calamari, and the French onion soup. The escargot and calamari were fantastic but the soup was terrible. For dinner we order two tenderloins, the cassoulet, penne arrabbiata, and the shrimp scallop saffron risotto. The tenderloins were spot on for cook and tenderness. The cassoulet was sent back to the kitchen because the beans were crunchy (undercooked). The scallops were under cooked and the risotto was very wet and underwhelming. The penne was overcooked and lacked any flavor, the sauce was ok nothing to right home about. I am unsure if i will go back. read more

This was my favourite restaurant in Osoyoos, but the service has gone completely downhill when we visited in August 2024. I made a reservation through the restaurants website. I received three confirmations, one of which was a reminder 4 hours before our reservation time. We arrived on time. The table was not ready. They had us sit at the bar for ten minutes, during which no one acknowledged us, the bartender did not ask us if we wanted a drink. We were not even given a menu. Then we were shown to a table where the busser came and brought water and lit a candle but after which, we were left to sit for another 1 20 minutes with zero acknowledgement, although multiple waiters kept serving the tables next to us. Finally, one of us got up to try to find a waiter. At that point a waiter arrived. I said something about zero service and the waiter responded that there was some co fusion. This leads me to believe that the restaurant is not assigning tables to wait staff in a systematic way and that rather than waiters having an assigned section, they are running around to random individual tables throughout. Really disappointing especially since they charge a requires 18% gratuity. They have also made noticeable cutbacks on the bread. Previously, it came with olive oil and balsamic. Maybe time to find a new restaurant for our annual Osoyoos trip. read more

This hidden jam was a surprising find! The atmosphere was lively and bustling, and there was very attentive service from the staff, both waitstaff and host. The food was excellent, flavored, and well portioned. Nearing the end of the night they were out of some things on the menu, but they were quick to adapt and offer alternatives. We were at a local vineyard & this place was recommended to us. Staff were amazing. The escargot was good, as was the calamari. The filet mignon was a knockout! Cooked to perfection & the potatoes were amazing. Spaghetti was good, very large potion. The risotto with prawns & scallops was delicious, especially the scallops. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the Lemon meringue pie. The crust was chewy & there was only a skim of lemon filling. Overall, this is a gem of a find in Osoyoos!!! read more

We came here for dinner. My son's bread was burnt. The waitress was so rude and grabbed the plate while the helper was about to start grating the Parmesan on his plate. She Was so rude. The food was decent. But the service is horrible. Mixed up our bills and said we are busy can you figure it out yourselves. Then told us we have to pay the max gratuity. An excellent dining experience in a casual setting with a notable attention to detail. Service was friendly and attentive and several members of the Staff attended to our needs. Simone was our principal server to a party of six and was very friendly and helpful in describing the menu and making suggestions. My choice was the Arctic char special, and I found it to be very nicely prepared with a delicious combination of vegetables and risotto. Our party was surprised by the lower web rating, as we found all aspects of Convivia to be of very high quality. Went here while on a little vacation from kelowna, Absolutely fabulous time. Desmond our waiter was very attentive, polite and courteous when answering our questions and giving us the best service in osoyoos.The food was on par with the great service, escargot was amazing!the Osso bucco cut like butter and the lamb was so succulent. If you are looking after an experience, it's not the place but it's simple and basics are good. Good wine list also and excellent service. This will not take long to write. We arrived at our reservation time of 7:10 and we left 30 minutes later having been served a glass of water in that time. We cannot review the food because our very useless waiter chose to ignore us. We watched him pour wine three times for the couple next to us, serve them their main course, made eye contact with us a few times but just simply ignored us. So we walked out. Fine dining such as they are presenting themselves to be should never entail the customer having to plead to have at least their drink order taken. It also should not be the case where the waitstaff can pick and choose which tables the deign worthy of their time. Unfortunately, it appears that this restaurant accepts that level of service as normal. Such a shame because a friend had recommended this place to us, so we were looking forward to a memorable dining experience. Well, we got one, just not a good one. read more

Have been here many times. The food has always been good. The wait can sometimes be quite long. The last time we went will be the last time ever. I have never seen such a rude server in a restaurant. The best place in town! Visiting from Washington we didn't have expectations on finding a place worth going to more than once. This restaurant became our to go to place for dinner, it is a real mixture of French, Italian and American cousins, and really close to authentic European restaurants. We enjoyed our experience. Pro's: - friendly greeting by owner who seated us and thanked us at the end - attentive hostess, friendly french server - i liked the small bread basket with garlic butter...perfect portion - the portofino seafood salad was delicious and fulfilling...i had the plate size - i also ordered the veggie cannelloni as a side plate and it was the perfect portion. The are small tablespoon-size dollops of rissoto on top while stuffed with a flavourful eggplant and topped with melted mozzarella and a sweet balsamic glaze drizzle. - the open kitchen and interactive chefs - they are open Monday nights!!! Many restaurants are not open Monday nights in this town! Con's: - the Caesar salad was ok, underdressed or something - the spaghetti and meatballs were ok but not over the top with the flavour we wanted I thought the prices were reasonable honestly. I can not say enough positive things about my experience dining in Convivia Bistro Cuisine. Our server was exceptionally helpful and allowed us to taste two wines before we decided on a third. She explained the menu throughly and we did not feel rushed I chose a filet mignon with a port sauce. It was very delicious and was accompanied with a large assortment of roasted vegetables cooked to perfection. The mushrooms were also very delicious. To finish our meal we chose a tiramisu which was the best one I've ever tasted. Off the charts! Then at the end of the meal our server called a cab but it came and left without us. At that point the owner Joanne stepped forward and without even knowing how far we were from our hotel, offered us a ride home in her own vehicle. Very impressed with the memorable dining experience. This has been my favorite restaurant in Osoyoos and we always look forward to a good meal and nice evening at Convivia. Our last experience was very disappointing. We sat on the terrace. It was enclosed because it was a windy day and the temperatures were below seasonal. After we were seated it took such a long time for our server to come to the table that we thought we'd been forgotten. The service only got worse from this point. We ordered bocconcini with tomato to share as an appetizer. Nice warm slices of baguette were brought to the table. Our appetizer was good. We ordered a 1/2 lt. of wine. When the waiter brought the wine to the table he also had a mug of beer on the tray. The beer slipped and spilt onto the floor right beside our table. Fortunately it did not get on our clothing. He mopped up the beer, cleaned up and then left the wine at our table. When he cleared off the dishes from our appetizer, I had left my cutlery on the table but my husband had left his cutlery on the plate. Our waiter actually removed the dirty cutlery and put it back on the table. How rude! I've never had a server do that before. At most restaurants they provide fresh cutlery between courses. While we were there we also noticed one of the staff, I think it was the hostess, walk through the patio with a tray of drinks. She opened the patio door and delivered the drinks to people in a car. In the meantime the patio door is open and even sitting about one third of the way from the open patio door I could feel the cool breeze. The customers who were sitting right by the door had to close the patio door themselves. After our appetizer we waited, waited and waited for our entrees. It took about 1 hour from the time we finished our appetizer until we finally received our entrees. Our server said "it will be here shortly" at the half hour mark and then "it's coming" after we had waited 45 minutes. The food was good. My husband had the pork cheeks and I had osso buco. There was no quality check, in fact it felt like our waiter couldn't wait to get rid of us. The feeling was mutual at this point. He offered us a free dessert because of the spilt beer. I will mention that there was a table of 7 near us that arrived while we were having our appetizers. They had a female server. The ordered appetizers, drinks and entrees and they were leaving when we were eating our entrees. We waited again for the bill. We had to request it twice. We were on time for our 6:00 reservation but did not get out of the restaurant until just after 8:30. Way too long because of the non-existent service. read more

It was not the romantic dinner we hoped for. Our server was friendly but the restaurant refused compensation for the half decent dinner. Later, my girlfriend and I became quite sick. Hubby and I had a special meal tonight at convivia. The resto was packed at 8 pm on a Sunday, and staff were busy. Regardless, we had a lovely meal. I had the cod with risotto ( which is presented as a crispy hockey puck shape and is to die for). Portions were good,not too much, and not overly heavy on the sauces. Healthy and tasty. The service was great. The price was rather high and the amount of food you get isn't enough. All four of us left hungry I had the Linguine Carbonara. It was fantastic, but again it wasn't even one serving. My kids shared a pizza which was $25 for four slices ‍ but they did like it. Now for my husbands dinner.... He had the baked lamb shank and added a side of pasta because he didn't want the vegetables. The lamb was so bad he ran to the bathroom and spit it out. He couldn't continue to eat it. Left it all in his plate. it was too chewy and fatty he said. That was $45. I feel like if you are ok with spending fine dinning prices and fine dinning servings then this place is for you. The seating process was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Thankfully, the kitchen staff was entertaining to watch and friendly with us. FOH staff seemed incredibly unorganized (I understand this can happen as I've worked in the industry) but no acknowledgement or apology was made to us at any point. Walk-ins (NOT reservations) of the same size were seated ahead of us and when we politely spoke up about having been there before them, staff acknowledged we were right but didn't do anything to correct it or even apologize. My only complaint would be the guests that wear work out clothes or grubby jeans and talk on their phones! Before writing this article, I spent ten minutes attempting to unearth what "convivia" means. Google had no idea; it and other sites kept trying to autocorrect it to "convivial", which would make sense given that means variations of "pleasant". One page, an obscure one, finally came back with "banquet." Well...that makes more sense--you'd think that would've been easier. From our perspective, Convivia had the perfect location, walking distance to motel. Being on the "wrong side" of the water has generated some criticism I've read. It was fine from our perspective. During the day, Convivia doesn't look particularly appealing, resembling a family restaurant that passing truckers would visit for coffee and local floozies than a casual fine dining bistro. At night, the lights flicker on, and the restaurant twinkles in the darkness, with happy patrons enjoying a clear and quiet night out on the balcony. Convivia is a broad shotgun blast of European cuisine, generally something I dislike in larger towns. It tastes of pandering and comprised quality. Then I noticed the bead curtains draping the entrance, and then I knew everything would be okay. I wasn't going to find a White Spot knock-off in here, that's for certain. And true to form, after emerging from the curtains like the T-1000 passing through prison bars in Terminator 2, I found the... What? Oh, come on, everyone does it at least once. If you see bead curtains, you will do one of two things--walk straight through them face-first like the T-1000 or part them like Stansfield from The Professional after finishing his orchestra ("We said noon--I got one minute passed"). Where was I, right, past the bead curtains, I found the giant pizza oven, confirming my faith and my certainty that at some point, French onion soup was going to burning my tongue. The walls were mustard, not literally, matching the pigment choice of seemingly the whole town. We were directed to seats...inside the restaurant rather than on the balcony. Because girlfriend. It wasn't my idea. The menu was the expected scattershot of offerings. Calamari. Lasagna. Madras Chicken Curry. Pirate. Pirate? Wait, pirate? Apparently, yes, there's a pasta called pirate, covered in shellfish meat. I learned a new thing. I ordered the French onion soup because of course I did. I followed that with Lasagna while the girlfriend had lasagna. And as expected, the soup came bubbling cheese rolling down the side like it had just been removed from a giant pizza oven. And as expected, it torched the roof of my mouth. I regret nothing; it was still amazing. Both the pasta and the pizza were also very good, with additional high marks going to the obviously homemade pizza bread. There's just something noticeably superior when pizza is made on fresh bread removed from a pizza oven. Being a tourist town, I was also impressed with the prices. Convivia is a surprising find in the little town of Osoyoos. The food was good and we appreciated it proximity to our hotel and it's walking distance to a major shopping area in Osoyoos. We came here for dinner as it was one of the higher rated spots online in Osoyoos and came as a recommendation from our host at a winery that we stopped at on the way in. As a note to anyone that decides to come, the front door is to your very left. We mistakenly came through a large red door that ended up being an emergency exit. A bit of an awkward entrance but the staff were kind enough to seat us quickly anyhow. We sat at the bar (a preferred choice as my partner and I enjoy sharing our meals and being in close enough proximity so that we can hear each other ;) ). The young man who greeted us was a bit awkward but I soon figured he was quite new. A seemingly more experienced bartender ended up serving us. He was friendly, not too intrusive and timely with his service. Unfortunately I wish I could be more positive about the meal. The menu was not too inspiring. We ordered the osso bucco and lasagna. I was hungry enough to order a starter as well but nothing caught the eye. The lasagna was average. Not good not bad. The osso bucco at $31, I would've expected more from being priced the way it was. It was under seasoned and over cooked even though it was braised. It was sat on top of unseasoned and sauceless pasta noodles and roasted vegetables. We politely ate it being as hungry as we were and skipped dessert. read more
