I fell in love with a kitten online, but there was already an applicant ahead of me, so I resigned myself to accepting I probably wasn't going to get him. But Pam was so great - she stayed in constant communication with me, and when she hadn't heard back from the other applicant in two days, she emailed me at 10pm to say I had first dibs (which I feel is fair) and that she'd make sure the kitten was at the adoption event for me to come see the next afternoon. So we headed over to Pet Valu in Clifton to meet the kitten and adored him right away. Kristen was so sweet, helpful and genuinely happy to see that one of her kittens had found a new home. She provided us with tons of info and advice, along with a Pet Valu adoption coupon kit. Their vetting process is pretty standard; you fill out an application with details about your living situation, current pets etc. In the final stages, you sign a contract promising not to declaw and that you'll send them proof of having the kitten spayed/neutered. The experience was quite painless (unlike interactions I've had in the past with some larger/more well-known rescue groups), and these women are doing a fantastic job. Definitely check out their kitties if you're looking to adopt!

During my visit, I fell in love with a fluffy little girl. I had already decided to buy her, but I wanted to follow the basic steps that responsible owners recommend. I asked about her vaccinations and about the health testing of the parents. The staff told me that all of their puppies come from small local families here in Virginia, that the families vaccinate before shipment, and that they only breed from healthy parents. I felt reassured and excited. To be safe, I asked to see her paperwork. I was told earlier that everything was local, so this was supposed to be a simple confirmation. Instead, the papers said she was bred in Missouri. I asked the salesperson how Missouri counted as "local to Virginia" and why he had told me the exact opposite. He said he got confused. That explanation made no sense. I pointed out that he had spoken with confidence about all of their puppies coming from local families, and yet the paperwork showed something completely different. At that point, I could not trust a single thing I had been told. If you are thinking about buying a puppy from here, look at the paperwork yourself before you make any decision. Do not rely on what the staff tells you. My experience showed me that what they say and what is written on the documents are two very different things.

I am 100% sure they kidnapped my cat from my community and hostage her for donation and selling as a business rather than a non profit organization. Pure intention matters! I have donated to multiple organizations monthly base, raising fund for good purpose, money is not a problem for me. However, I don't want to reward bad behaviors. The missing time for my cat and the one they posted online matches and the very detailed stripes pattern matches. It's questionable that one employee said she from North Carolina, another one said she from West Virginia. I have my cat since she was born, I can recognize this cat from eye contact. Well, if you know your children, you know them by the spirit, right? I sent them many details to JUST take a look, they refused. It's not built to help ppl or animals at all. I will show how my cat look like and how sick she is now in their foster home. I'm deeply saddened and worried about her. She is territorial as a cat does. She has been a happy cat in her own home, wtf they think this is a rescue. Now I have to either kiss their ass or be assertive to fight against this negativity just to get her rescued from these horrible ppl. F that! If they don't practice as ethical as it should be, this is a big big issue! I put the photos of how my cat looked before and how she looks now in their foster homes(one with name caption) I am seriously furious and frustrated about this. If they couldn't give me an explanation why they made it so difficult to meet the cat. I have to say I will use my popularity and influence to the extreme to make things right!!!

We met with Dr. Cullen and he was both informative, kind, and walked us through the process and checked up on us a few days later. We saw him a handful more times after that for other dog maintenance things. I then was struggling under the care of another vet with my very first puppy. As soon as I got on the phone with Cassidy (hope I'm spelling her name right), I was immediately soothed as she gave me a lot of information, help, and guidance through my situation. I requested Dr. Cullen again as I had some previous experience and liked how he operated. He was somehow even better than last time--talked me through pup's issues, walked me through treatment, and reassured me. Luckily, pup almost immediately improved! I ended up signing up for their wellness plan and am happy to be a part of VCA's CareClub instead of our previous vet. They also have significantly more availability than previous vet and happen to be within walking distance to my home. So happy we returned, and so happy pup & I get to feel safe.

Most recently, l've come back to this VCA because of Dr Keeley being Fear Free Certified. Olivia is also wonderful with my dogs, no matter if they're fearful or reactive. HOWEVER, if this review didn't include them, it'd be absolutely 0 stars for my interactions with their administration vet assistant Cassidy. She contradicts processes that I've been told by other admin staff leading to confusion, is unkind to my animals, is rude to fellow staff including speaking badly about them to me while they're out of the room, and is not communicative at all to other staff members or owners leading to confusion and a generally off-putting experience. I have no issue at all if there's an appointment running long & we need to reschedule for another time or something like that - I have an issue with how she speaks to people, staff & owners alike. Telling an owner things you don't like about the vet or vet tech is really inappropriate and needs to be handled without involving clients. I've been to so many VAs and never had this awful of an interaction, even leading to confrontation. If not for Olivia and Dr Keeley, I would've stopped coming here because I don't want Cassidy near my animals or me or frankly in any customer/client-facing role.

For reference, we have two bigger, social dogs who formerly happily boarded in pet hotels, but moved to sitting when our senior dog started chemo. We have used a variety of services, starting with 4/day visits over a long weekend, then supplementing house sitting by older parents (the sitters did the walking and feedings with meds), then overnight stays plus 3/day visits. Our sitters have been dedicated and caring, excellent with our dogs, and respectful of our home and how the boys are cared for. Having a senior dog can be a dog-sitting challenge, and they were excellent with loving on him, as well as entertaining our younger more energetic dog. It's important for anyone using pet sitting to (1) make arrangements well in advance to ensure availability, and (2) meet the sitter in your home first to introduce the pets and to show them around the house and how your pup is fed, medicated, let out, etc and where pet supplies are kept.

She decided she had something better to do a few days later and I was left without a sitter after having total knee replacement. This is not acceptable. I was asked to pay ahead of time for the entire 5 days which I did. It then took them 10 days to return my money after notifying me they could not do the service. I don't feel they are running a business, but a hobby for unemployed or people transitioning from other jobs. Since it was just a hobby for the dog sitter, she canceled.
