I did the 8-week course and they increased my intelligence and I am eternally grateful for them doing that. They increased my confidence & allowed me to build social connections with both fellow students and instructors. I want to thank everyone that helped me because not only did they believe in me but they also motivated me to be a better human being, full of compassion & willingness to assist during emergencies. Steve Albright is the lead instructor and he is gifted at teaching and he is hilarious with his style of teaching. This man is very much a father figure and someone I learned a lot from aside from the medical material, he is truly a pleasure to be around and he lifts up peoples' spirits even though everything can be stressful. Michael believed in me and expressed it in a way that I can never thank enough. I value my newly acquired friendship with Michael and I definitely felt his passion for teaching and "his" love for his students. He is a great instructor who I am proud to have been guided by in this process of becoming a Emergency Medical Technician. He believed in me more than I believed in myself and that is something that money cannot buy. Henry taught me so much and gave me a platform to grow and thrive upon. He was so amazing at teaching and building confidence without putting pressure and it allowed for one to practice like they would in "real-life", therefore it is impossible for me to thank him enough. Nav guided me in situations that are stressful her guidance in tough scenarios which is something I will never forget. Her military expertise is something that I admire and will never forget her words and they will stick with me forever. She also enlightened me with potential career opportunities for someone like me, she did this for all of the students and I'm 100% positive that everyone gained confidence from her insight. Kristian was an amazing instructor who sharpened my skills with his style of teaching. He really helped cement my confidence and that is something I truly needed and value. I know that he didn't just want me to succeed but to also help the patients/people that we serve. The time that we spent together was not nearly enough because he had so much more to give and I had so much more to learn from him, however the time that we did spend was maximized and as I mentioned I am forever grateful for his time and energy. Patrick is like a friend who I have known my entire life and he is a wise teacher who made the learning experience more enjoyable and he reminded me why I am even doing this in the first place. He reminded me of my core values and the type of person I want to be, which is compassionate, sociable, and an intelligent leader who can get things done under pressure. This man is a person that everyone likes to be around and that is something I wish to emulate. Overall, this has been a life changing course unlike any other course that I have taken. I truly cherish these people and they are all heroes which deserve everything that life has to offer because they are doing it from the heart. I am proud to be a Bay Area Training Academy graduate and I will do my best to represent them as I move forward in my life. They are truly all beautiful souls who deserve nothing but the best and coming to the academy was one of the best decisions of my life. I feel more equipped to handle family emergencies as my elders age around me and in my daily life. I am excited to continue my education and these are people that I want to keep close to me. I feel like i found my "people"/tribe. I cannot wait for what the future brings and: Thank you for everything BATA, I love all of you! Sincerely, Raul Angel Maravilla (EMT212AL)

However, it has come to my attention, that the current students at American High are currently without an Instructor for Culinary Arts, therefore the students are being "taught" by "substitutes". I get that teacher shortages are happening everywhere, and we are just getting through a global pandemic, but at the same time it's not like the previous Instructor Chef Rosen, decided to retire last minute. They knew well in advance, and you would think they would have been able to get an instructor before the school year started. If for some reason, they weren't able to find an instructor, which seems to be the case now, why even offer the course this year at all until an instructor is found? I've heard that students are trying switch out of the class and into other classes because they don't have an instructor, and are still being taught by substitutes. It's such a shame many of these students who are seniors, many of which who are coming out of distance learning, signed up for Culinary Arts, yet are being taught by substitutes. They probably aren't even being taught much or learning much about Culinary Arts. I hope Mission Valley ROP is doing everything they can to get a qualified instructor to teach Culinary Arts at American, as there are 4 Culinary Arts classes and 1 Event Planning course offered at American. If anything, perhaps they should ask Chef Rosen to come back until a permanent instructor can be found? Just to show the impact of taking an ROP class, not only did I earn College Credit for one of the courses I took, to this day, I still stay in touch with one of my instructors, Sergeant Crawford. Unfortunately, the other instructor I had, Mr. Gary Marsh sadly passed away a few years ago.

I was in the mid-day slot (11-2ish) which was great because it gave me enough time to prepare for exam, if needed. I loved that our program was small so I felt that each of us got the attention we needed; however, do keep in mind that all programs are different. I am giving it 4 stars because of the fact I had to take some general classes even though I graduated with a BA. For the Pearson Vue experience…read more.. I took two certification tests here today since the closest facilities to my house were not available, I chose here. I read some reviews of dissatisfaction and I was a bit worried. The streets getting to the school are VERY narrow. So be careful with larger vehicles if you drive one. Some drivers don't give a crap and will hog the road. Not the school's fault. I couldn't find anything in advance, but when I got there, I wasn't sure if I needed to pay for parking or not. Turns out, I didn't. I parked in the front of the school (parking lot) off of Princeton and checked in with some workers to see if I was allowed to park there or not, and if I needed permits, they said I was fine. The Pearson lab was comfortably lit. It was not over bright. It was a little on the cool side, but considering there are probably 20 or so computers and a printer in the room, the temperature is what you would expect for a computer lab with users. If you get cold easily, bring a sweatshirt. I was fine in a collared shirt. The lab was not dirty or cob-web infested during my visit as other posts had mentioned. The lab assistant was not rude, she was super nice. The environment wasn't really loud, but they provide you with complimentary ear plugs if you would like to use them to drown out coughing, others checking in, and the occasional chair squeaking. I didn't need the ear plugs (used to loud environments in IT infrastructure). The person who checked me in was, as I mentioned, super nice and patient. I was thirty minutes early for my test - she let me start early. I finished my first exam in 25 minutes (had 2 hours). She let me register and start my second exam as soon as she was free to check me in again (so I didn't have to wait another 1.5 hours for the next test reserved window). Things you should know * the Pearson Vue testing lab - look for the cafe on the campus and right next to it, is the lab. The door is closed with signs on it that say don't knock, come in. That sign is bigger than the one that says Pearson Vue. * Whisper or talk very quiet when you speak to the person to checkin - be respectful of others taking a test * ALL, and I mean ALL personal items will be collected prior to your test. Watches, jewelry (including earrings), hats, sunglasses, cell phones, weapons, keys, wallets, everything in your pocket, etc, will be collected and put in tray and placed into a closed cabinet managed by the checkin person. I emptied my wallet and brought a credit card, my car insurance proof, drivers license, work badge, and some cash. Left my full wallet at home. Water will be collected too, but, in the case of my test, I could take any break I wanted but time on the test would continue while I was away (bathroom, water, etc). * I had a drivers license and my work badge (which had my picture on it). They said the badge did not count as a second form of ID. I needed something with my signature on it. Fortunately, I had something else with me that sufficed. FIND OUT *** FIND OUT *** and CONFIRM what you need in advance. Don't get your test cancelled (and lose your money) because you don't have the proper identification. I was lucky I had something extra. Sounded like another kid that came in wasn't so lucky. * In the case of my certifications, I was notified on screen and via a print out that I passed. If there is a print out, make sure you get it. * if you are taking anything that requires a calculator, they offer to lend you one. I wasn't there for that kind of test, but I saw someone else borrow one. * In my case, they gave me two dry erase 8.5 x 14 sheets and a black pen to take notes on. I didn't really need them, but they lend those to you. * I saw they did testing for CompTIA, CISCO, Filemaker, and I think I saw someone taking a GED test. I'm sure they do more than that, but just saying what I saw while I was there. * I'm not sure about the area around the school, so I wouldn't leave valuables in your car, or certainly don't leave them visible. I didn't have an issue, but I saw someone else post that it was not the best part of town. Not sure I would agree, but I probably wouldn't go walking at night here either. All in all, it was a nice experience. I have one gripe. The phone number on the Hayward Adult School website is a jumble of automated call menus that drop you into voicemails. Not sure if you call if you would get the voicemail or not, but don't call right before your appt for info and expect an answer before you leave for the facility... Just saying.

Kind of hard to find the place depending on where you park. Thankfully, I came early and was able…read moreto get to test taking quickly thereafter. It was your standard testing room with the typical check in routines of other test taking locations.
