This is a great place for SAT prep. After trying 3 other local/national SAT prep companies for our child but not getting the desired 1550+ score, we took a private individualized class with Excel. My son's booklet was stolen from their premises, First they told us they will check their CCTV and let us know but later they made us pay for booklet unless we paid they wont let him attain the practice tests. We took the course and put the time in, did what we were supposed to AND if your student (like many) is not the best at self guided test prep, then there is value there for structured review. Unfortunately, our student did not achieve the 200 pt. improvement as guaranteed. You can make-up the class for free, but there are some legal conditions (has to be next offered class after test and supposed to have taken test right after class, etc.) so make sure you are aware as these details are not always discussed up front. It would have been particularly helpful, if upon registration, Excel confirmed that you are actually signed up for the next SAT test right after the class, as a condition of signing up. Unfortunately, we were not and when we registered for the actual test, all the test centers within 1.5 hr. drive were booked! So due to the unfortunate gap between finishing the course and actually taking the test, we missed some of the full benefit. Excel is working with us on a make-up class due to this aspect. read more

Please don't waste your money on Excel Test prep. It's not worth the money. You can get the same results by doing free Khan Academy or College Board. They claim to provide free group tutoring sessions but they are very infrequent. There was one math group tutoring session since the end of June and my daughter needed help with math so I ended up having to sign up for two hours of private tutoring. They require you to sign up for a minimum of two hours and it has to be the same subject. I think I messed up my daughter's chances of doing well by picking these guys instead of Elite or Zenith. read more

Didn't improve as much as I'd hope on the actual SAT. The practice test the first give you is really difficult, and the last test they give you is significantly easier, making you think you've improved more than you actually have. The most helpful course in my opinion was the essay-writing course, but the rest were just teaching you things you already knew. read more

Fremont Excel Test : Cutting corners We had bad experience with Excel Fremont with their summer boot camp 2015. Just two days prior to actual camp, they changed location from Residence Inn to Genius Kids facilities. The room allocated to SAT boot-camp was in the middle of their facilities with one window opening to the corridor. Not at all acceptable when students are going to spend 8 weeks, 4 hrs per day , working on SAT. We protested and pulled out daughter from the course on the very first day. They charged us $500 administrative cost. !! Highly unprofessional. When customers are being charged approx 3000 for program, a decent study place is expected. I encourage parents to visit the Genius kids facility and determine if really want your child to be in that facility for 8 weeks? Fremont Excel team, what next ? Someone's garage for the next bootcamp?? Since you changed the location on the last minute after advertising Residence Inn all along , it is false advertising. Bait/switch. I took this class for the EIT exam. I was out of school for 7 years. The class gives you pretty good direction but a lot of study time on your own is required. Just attending classes is not sufficient. At least for me anyways. But the main thing is that they provides you with direction and they review a good amount of exam type questions. I never write a bad review but since I had problem to find a good course and I had big problem with this team, I would like everyone to AVIOD this class. They sold me old videos and books. I paid that much money (same as live class) for the very bad quality of the videos. The videos and books were old and they have not been updated per new NCEES specification. I spent bunch of time to read the books and watch the videos and I found they are old and I wasted my time and money. Finally after arguing with them, I got the updated books but they were not matched with the videos. Even you pay the same amount of money as live class but you won't get the same information and the videos mainly just solve the problems. They don't answer your questions very well because only a person (Rakhi) is responsible for answering the questions who doesn't know what the PE is! I ended up to sign the EET class which are very helpful and great team and after spending that much money, I passes because of the help of EET class. FE-CBT Hybrid Classroom Course: Like throwing away $999. This "class" is the biggest waist of time! The in person class consisted of going over information that was totally irrelevant to my discipline. The class includes students from all different testing subject which means the important topic for your emphasis will not be discussed as much as it should be and other topics that are barely covered on your exam will be reviewed for 4 hours or more. Only one teacher actually addressed test taking skills and what you can expect on an exam.... The online videos were a total waist of time! The teachers read directly from the review book with NO explanation, NO referencing of the test, and NO explanation of the FE Handbook. Some of the teachers can't even look at the camera while they read the book word for word. I could do that myself. At the end of the day, I payed $999 for a review book. Last year, my daughter took the month long "SAT & PSAT Core Classroom Course". It was bad value for the ~$800 we spent on it. When I saw the tricks they try to teach you for Critical Reading, I was horrified. You learn "boxes" and other garbage, and it doesn't work. I know this for a fact because my daughter would get answers wrong after following their rules. Eventually, she went back to a more natural way of reading and did better. Reading is not formulaic. At the cost of less than $100, you can get the official blue book as well as the online course for official practice tests. Just use those. For tips and tricks, get one of the other books such as Barron's, but stay away from made-up tests in those commercial books. With many hours of practice-diagnose-study cycle, you will automatically see your scores rise. You don't need this course. read more

Do not waste your money. I took the online course and paid over $900 for this course. It is unbelievable how many errors the instructors have made in the videos. Several times in Math and statics videos the answers provided are erroneous making you think what are you doing wrong. Several times in the videos the derivations itself are wrong. I paid for this class hoping recorded instructions will make it easier for me to learn but instead ended up spending more time and energy to now unlearn what was taught in these videos and learn from other resources again. read more

Their class is not helpful at all. They give hard tests at the beginning of the course and then easy one at the end and show us the 200 point improvement they promised! The exam club tests fill up quickly in their Cupertino center and when we asked them about it they told us to "upgrade" to the platinum club for another $500 ! My kid said this course was only helpful in Science. They only teach to take the test, not to teach extra knowledge. The teacher for writing gave them tips that made everyone score lower on their practice exams. The next time, my kid did not listen to what was taught and scored better. Class was dismissed 15-30minutes early several times. In January, I signed up my daughter for private ACT test prep. It started really well, they were prompt in getting the registration efficiently - completed/paid in 3 days. We (the parents) and my daughter were very excited to get started. On the first session, the teacher was about 30 minute late. We were concerned and the office assured us that it doesn't normally happen and it won't happen again. 2nd session .... the teacher for this session was also late! We asked to talk to the office manager/director; we were told to go to a classroom to sit and WAIT! Enough sitting and waiting. Monday, I requested to cancel the remaining of the tutoring. At the end of the week, they offered to compensate for 2 sessions that were late. No, thank you! I emailed back to inquire about the refund; As expected, no responding email. After another week of waiting, I had to call the office to inquire about the refund. In short, it takes just few days to register - it took 2.5 weeks to cancel and get just 60% of my money back! read more

I say most because there was this one instructor for the PE course was teaching for the first time and he was absolutely horrible. My teen is currently enrolled. So far including tonight, they have met twice in an expanded Hotel room. Two portable tables have been set up, for 10 students, it's very crammed. The white board is very small, even the teacher complained about it. On a prior meeting date, the test proctor was late because he had to take his girlfriend to a Chiropractor appt. I have the cell phone of the director, she's not answering her calls tonight. Very Very unprofessional. I would not recommend this service at this time. read more

I thought the course was pretty good, it covered all the basics and tricks. However, I think that it was necessary to do more practice outside the class. What was really good was the exam club. I highly highly recommend it. You can come in anytime for free practice test. By score improved 300 points by the end of the course to my test date just because of exam club. Excel definitely helped me raise my ACT score. The only issue I have with them is the first practice test that they give you. They make it outrageously difficult so you will not score well, so you are virtually guaranteed to reach the score increase guarantee. I would rate them lower because of this clearly unfair business practice, but everything else I have experienced with them was great. The classes were reasonably priced and the instructors were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Suzette in math was really helpful, just going to her three math classes and simply listening brought my math score from a 25 to a 30, and math is a BIG struggle for me. I paid $750 but I used a coupon, code number RM052, that someone gave me which brought it down to $725. All in all, I would highly recommend excel test prep, but don't worry if your first test is bad, my first was a 22 and I took the second while I had the flu and I scored a 29! read more
