Best 5 Star Hotel in Waikiki!!! This was our first time staying at the Outrigger Reef Waikīkī and…read moreit won't be our last! Our family had such a great experience from beginning to end. Minh, the front desk, was helpful, friendly, and made us feel so taken care of. Michael, our pool waiter, was efficient and friendly. He worked the entire day (double shift from morning to 10pm) and still had a smile at the end of day. Mr. Mark, the resident cultural teacher at the Ao Cultural Center, took the time to educate us about the native Hawaiian culture with such grace and Aloha. He taught us how to create a traditional Ti-leaf Kupe'e bracelet and even gave my daughter and I authentic Hawaiian names, KaNoeau (The Wise One) and KaUauluwehi (Waterfall of Abundant Nature). The Outrigger Reef Waikiki is more than a hotel. It is a magical experience full of Aloha with outstanding staff that creates an atmosphere that is irreplaceable!!! Thank you for giving us an experience our family will never forget. Until next time, Mahalo!!!

However, Ambrose said he'd see what he could do and was able to get my boyfriend and I a room early. We've been to Oahu several times but this was our first time staying at Outrigger. Our room was awesome (clean and spacious with a lot of closet and cabinet space) and the balcony came with a pretty good view. It was nice to have some poke and beers on there. You can even cast shows from your phone onto the TV which I appreciated. Location is so convenient and walkable to a lot of restaurants and shopping places and the beach. Yes it is super touristy but that's Waikiki for you. Although we only stayed for one night (on our way to Japan), I appreciated seeing all the activities that Outrigger offers on the schedule that they provide for you at check-in. A restaurant called Monkeypod is conveniently located within the building and they have the best maitais. It's super helpful that an ABC store is also located within the vicinity to grab snacks, drinks, and some souvenirs. Overall the place is really nice and the staff is so welcoming and kind. Would definitely love to stay here again!

Hilton Hawaiian Village: Over 30 Years of Visits, and Still One of My Favorite Places in…read moreHawaii....!!! BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): An absolutely spectacular beachfront resort in the heart of Waikiki! After more than 30 years of visits, Hilton Hawaiian Village remains one of my favorite places in Hawaii. Incredible location, expansive beachfront, wonderful amenities, and gorgeous ocean views. This visit included a fantastic Diamond Reserve welcome, an ocean-view upgrade, and Friday night fireworks enjoyed from our private balcony, cocktails in hand! Five stars, without hesitation! The Details: I've been coming to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort since the 1990s, and I absolutely LOVE this place! In fact, even when I lived in Hawaii back in the '90s, I'd occasionally treat myself to a staycation here. There's just something special about this resort that keeps bringing me back, decade after decade! We just arrived for another wonderful visit, this time for 12 days! We're combining a business trip and convention next week with two extended weekends of enjoying everything Waikiki and Honolulu have to offer. Not a bad way to mix business with pleasure! My wife will be hard at work the whole time...! (On her tan) ;-) This visit was particularly memorable because I recently achieved Hilton's new Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve status. Upon checking in, the wonderful lady behind the counter noticed my status, raised her eyebrows, and exclaimed, "Wow! You're the first person I've met who's achieved that status! Congratulations, and welcome to Hawaii!" What a fantastic way to begin our vacation! Even better, we received a beautiful upgrade to an ocean-view room with sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Waikiki Beach, and iconic Diamond Head. And as luck would have it, our balcony was perfectly positioned for the resort's famous Friday night fireworks! Rather than fighting the crowds gathered along the beach, we enjoyed the entire show from the peaceful comfort of our private balcony, cocktails in hand, watching the fireworks explode against the night sky above the Pacific Ocean. Absolutely spectacular! It's moments like these that remind me why I've loved this property for more than three decades. Another thing that makes the Hilton Hawaiian Village so special is its incredible location. You're right in the heart of the action, with easy access to Waikiki's restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and attractions, yet the resort itself feels like an entire tropical village. There are numerous restaurants, bars, pools, beautifully landscaped grounds, and one of the biggest advantages of all: a huge, beautiful stretch of beachfront right outside the resort! Unlike many other Waikiki hotels, where beach access can be limited or crowded, the Hilton Hawaiian Village enjoys an exceptional beachfront setting. It's also a surprisingly convenient location for business travelers, including those visiting military installations around Honolulu & Joint Base Hickham Pearl Harbor. I've always appreciated being able to handle business during the day and return to what feels like a Hawaiian vacation in the evening! After more than 30 years of visiting, I can confidently say the Hilton Hawaiian Village remains one of my favorite places to stay in Hawaii. The atmosphere, location, amenities, spectacular ocean views, and wonderful memories keep bringing me back. And this visit, with our Diamond Reserve welcome, beautiful room upgrade, and front-row balcony seats to the Friday night fireworks, is already shaping up to be another unforgettable stay! Five stars, without hesitation! Mahalo, Hilton Hawaiian Village!

Beautiful Ocean Views, but the Amenities Were Disappointing…read more My husband, our two daughters, and I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for three nights. While there were some wonderful highlights, the overall experience left me underwhelmed. Rainbow Tower & Housekeeping -- Excellent! We stayed in the iconic Rainbow Tower, and the ocean view was absolutely breathtaking! The room was very clean, and daily housekeeping deserves a round of applause. I also found the room rate reasonable, especially considering the beautiful views and beachfront location. Breakfast Buffet -- Overpriced and Underwhelming At approximately $50 per person, I expected much better quality and variety. The highlights were the excellent, high-quality bacon and four tropical juices, including guava, passion fruit, and orange. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was rather bland and uninspiring. The selection was limited, with options such as eggs Benedict, omelets, and loco moco. Overall, it felt like an ordinary hotel buffet with a luxury price tag. Swimming Pools -- Nice, but Good Luck Finding a Chair! The resort offers several pools, including two children's pools near the lagoon. Unfortunately, both were extremely crowded, and finding an available lounge chair was nearly impossible. The seating arrangements simply didn't seem adequate for the number of guests. The oceanfront pool near the bar was another disappointment. Although the pool itself was nice, there were no lounge chairs, only tables and regular chairs. This meant that at least one of us had to remain seated rather than comfortably relaxing by the pool. Not exactly the resort experience we had in mind! The largest pool was beautiful and suitable for adults and children, but equally crowded, making it difficult to find anywhere to sit. Lagoon & Beach -- The Ocean Wins! The resort's saltwater lagoon is convenient for families, but I wasn't impressed. The bottom had an unusual texture, almost like artificial sand, and whenever it was disturbed, the water turned milky and cloudy before settling. I can't speak to the actual water quality, but it didn't feel particularly fresh or inviting. I much preferred the ocean! The beach was beautiful, and we had a wonderful time swimming. There were some waves, so extra attention is needed with small children, but the ocean was definitely one of the highlights. Elevators -- A Frustrating Experience! The Rainbow Tower has a smart elevator system, which sounds great in theory, but during peak hours, it was an absolute nightmare! We waited over 15 minutes just to get an elevator, which is completely unreasonable for a resort of this size and reputation. We were in the 22nd floor. Going up and down became unnecessarily frustrating, especially when traveling with two young children. A modern elevator system should make things more efficient, not leave guests waiting nearly an hour just to reach their rooms or enjoy the resort facilities. This was another major disappointment and something management seriously needs to address. Final Thoughts The Hilton Hawaiian Village offers spectacular ocean views, clean accommodations, excellent daily housekeeping, and a beautiful beachfront location. However, the overcrowded pools, inadequate seating, disappointing $50 breakfast buffet, and underwhelming lagoon made the experience less enjoyable than expected. For a resort of this size and reputation, I expected a more relaxing and comfortable family experience. Would I stay again? Probably not. I'm glad we experienced it, especially the gorgeous Rainbow Tower views, but next time I'd prefer a smaller, quieter beachfront hotel where enjoying the pool doesn't feel like competing for a parking spot!

Check-in and check-out were both incredibly easy. And whoever had the AC blasting on full cold before I walked into my room -- THANK YOU. After being out in the Hawaii heat, walking into that cold room felt amazing. You can tell the room itself is older, but it also looks like they've made an effort to refresh it. The walls had newer paint, everything was clean, and the towels were fresh. The biggest surprise, though? THE BED. I was not expecting it to be that soft and comfortable! I slept so well. Is it the fanciest hotel in Waikiki? No. But if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, safe, affordable, and easy to stay at without paying luxury-resort prices, this absolutely did the job. I'd stay here again.

Check In is 3 PM and Check Out is 11 AM & we checked in a tad later maybe around 5-5:30 PM. Overall, I shared 2 nights with a friend and we were able to split the payment between our 2 cards thanks to the Front Desk. I paid probably $221 for my share of the 2 nights which was pretty reasonable for Hawaii. They gave us a $5 credit for drinks/snacks at The Market (which we didn't have time to take advantage of) and a small Hilton bag with 2 bottles of water. The room was surprisingly pretty spacious for the Double Queen Beds, a TV, mini fridge, desk station, comfy couch, and closet. I'm usually one not to sleep well in hotels but I was exhausted from my first Oahu day and slept real good for the 2 nights! It wasn't extremely cold too, it felt like a nice 72-73 degrees. The Breakfast Bar (aka buffet) was included and opens at 6:30 AM and ends 9:30 AM Monday-Friday and at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. It was located on the 3rd floor where the pool is located and quite windy. There was a good selection of cereal, toast, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, pineapple, granola, hot food station (which had Scrambled Eggs, Portuguese Sausage, Pork Link Sausage, House Potatoes, Waffles, etc.) and my absolute favorite, hot rice and Miso Soup! There was Apple and Orange Juice and a nice selection of Hot Tea and Coffee which you can take to go as well. Downside was parking was $62+/overnight. My friend found a parking structure nearby of walking distance which charged only $45/night so we saved a bit especially with renting a Tesla (the closest Tesla Supercharging Station would be the International Market Place-Target Parking Structure on the 4th floor on the left FYI). Overall the Hyatt was welcoming but because it was summer, prepare for lots of families and some wait time with elevators. There was a Domino's Pizza downstairs if you have some mid night munchies lol!

They were also going to visit Dali, LiJiang, XiZhou, and ZhongShan. I haven't been to these cities, so I wanted to go! Luckily, my friend, Irene, agreed to be my roommate! We went to their office in Chinatown Honolulu to meet with the travel agents at Skyway Express. They processed our paperwork for Visas, gave us itineraries, and even hosted a welcome/orientation luncheon for everyone to meet! The process was quite smooth, even with the refund for our flight since we added on a few days extra in Hong Kong before and after China. We paid for our flights on Expedia which turned out to save us some money! Skyway Express booked the five hotels, land tours, bullet train ride between KunMing and Dali, and flight between LiJiang and GuangZhou! The package included all admission fees to various museums and theaters, air-conditioned buses, most meals, tips for the drivers and tour guides, and unlimited bottled water!
