This was our first experience at The Constitution and we are already planning ahead to go with friends and family. We met Aubrey and Rusty right off and couldn't have felt more welcome. We sat at the bar even though we had reservations, I am glad we did. Over and over again Rusty shared from the depth of his knowledge and passion, even, off and on, sharing little samples of things he thought we might like. The ambiance was great until you looked at your table and see a dollar store fake candle. Then you realize all the candles around the place are fake. For the price and the beauty of the rest of the decor it was pathetic to see. But what was more pathetic was the service. I believe there's 4 tables (maybe 5) in the entire place and the server forgot parts of our order and was ridiculously slow. Not to mention they claimed they didn't have the capability of splitting a check. Save yourself the money and drop by the gas station on your way to grab the honey mustard trail mix. Because that's exactly what you'll find as their one and only "snack" item. The drinks are mediocre at best. I actually for the first time in my life sent a drink back. The staff didn't care however and it was clear they didn't care about much. For the price, one would think they would garnish with fresh limes and oranges but not here. You'll pay the fine dining price and still end up with a freeze-dried pathetic slice of whatever they decide to slap on your drink. I recommend saving yourself the time and money and just walking a few blocks down to Georgie's where you can get a proper snack and good drink for a lot less. It's exactly what my group (and another group) did after experiencing that nightmare of place. My group ordered multiple of their signatures and decided the bees knees was the most tolerable. But about half way through my Bees knees I realized the familiarity I was experiencing drinking this was the fact it tastes like Halls Cough Drops. After revisiting the menu I saw why the ingredients are very close. To conclude, the place has so much potential and I would recommend it only for the experience. read more

Drinks are creative and outstanding! You are not limited to the menu choices as they will make you anything you ask for. We sat at the bar and watched all the magic. We asked questions and Rusty was fabulous at telling us all about the process. There are many bourbons ($$$ ones) to choose from as well as other high end spirits. This is a hidden gem for now but that probably isn't going to last as word spreads. They do have a few beer choices but not many as that is not their forte. I would suggest reservations as they do meet capacity and some are turned away. You can not get a drink at the bar and wait in the foyer. Bar has six stools and the back rooms (4) can hold up to 8 people total. The bar has a 1.5 hour limit so don't plan to stay all evening. There are two small tables for two in the very back (not very private) and a bench directly behind the stools at the bar where you are expected to sit, not stand. There is no food here, they do offer some kind of snack but I didn't see it to comment. It is a speakeasy.... meaning it is suppose to be quiet and intimate not loud. However, some people didn't get the memo the Saturday evening we were there. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the whole experience. We plan to return!! TY read more

What an incredible find. My brother and I were doing the Bourbon Trail, coming from out-of-state, and stayed in Lexington on a Sunday. Not knowing the area at all, after a quick look at options on Yelp I suggested we try this bar. Exceeded my expectations. Just entering the bar was an experience. After opening the outside door you're immediately met with a bookcase, where you have to ring a bell to gain entrance. Once we were let in through the "secret" entrance, I was immediately impressed by the prohibition style speakeasy vibe. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The main bartender expertly explained the drink options. The cocktails on the menu were obviously well thought out. Some classics, some riffs on classics, and some complete originals. Bartender asked about my tastes so I could decide what to order. I can't remember the name of the cocktail, but it was fantastic. Great care was taken to make it. It was a fairly light crowd, so I was able to have a fairly extensive conversation with the bartender and other staff. Drinks weren't cheap, but they use premium ingredients (if you want a dive bar with swill beer, go elsewhere). Next time I'm in Lexington, I'll definitely be going back. read more

I am sharing this review not to harm the business but because I want it to survive and I hope the owners might read this and make some changes. I have been to Constitution a few times but the last two times were in the same week and I had two bad experiences in a row. The second time was a busy night and we didn't have a reservation so we sat on the bench near the bar. Our waitress took our order and was friendly enough but then someone else brought our drinks and then we were never approached by anyone else. We sat there with empty glasses for about fifteen minutes. We intended to order another drink but after trying to get the waitress's attention three times (she apparently has no peripheral vision) we gave up. Since she never came back I went to the bar to pay. No one apologized that I had to seek out someone to pay. The person I paid never even said thank you even though my bill was nearly around $80 for four drinks (which were delicious). When we left several people were waiting to be let in so you'd think the waitress would have either come back to take our bill so more people could get in or come back to ask if we wanted more drinks so she could sell more products. It doesn't make good business sense, for her or for the bar. The first time I wasn't paying as much attention to everything going on but when we left I found that our bar bill had been $300 for five people. We had delicious drinks, and a couple each. A friend visiting from England had offered to pay because we were showing them around town. When we left he said "You know, the drinks were great, but the waiter wouldn't even smile or thank me so I don't think I'd go back." One of the drinks we ordered was $32. For that price one is paying not only for an excellent drink but also for a friendly staff. I want Constitution to stay in business. The drinks are really phenomenal and the space itself is beautiful and elegant. But the service is really lacking. I'm going to wait awhile before going back in the hopes that this new batch of waitstaff don't last long and are replaced by people who know how to serve customers properly. But it's on the owner to make sure that happens. read more

Loved the ambiance of this place. However, it was a shame to be treated the way my group was treated. As a group of females in their mid-twenties, I have never been more stereotyped and treated so poorly. The doorman/server Ryan did nothing but belittle and insult us throughout our entire experience. He talked down to us the entire time and we even heard him from the other side of the wall (after we were nothing but patient and respectful) "I would sit the group of girls out there in the front but they are going to be loud and obnoxious." When we got to our table and were ready to order drinks, my friend asked if their espresso martini was creamy or not and he responded with "If you like creamy espresso martinis maybe you just don't like espresso martinis," in a condescending tone. He further repeated this comment after she received the cocktail. We were at our breaking point as he did not say one positive remark to our group (when we were not even acting out of line) when we were approached by another group of peers we knew who said they were treated the exact same way from him. On elf them even voiced they "have never been treated like that in their life." As a young women in the whiskey industry it was heartbreaking that we were treated with so much disrespect. The new generation of spirit lovers and women who are passionate in this genre should be treat the same as others. read more
