This is in response to Van Starlings reply of 4/7/21, Fran Fairman review The date of our roof installation was Aug. 30, 2019; warranty states work completed Sept. 3, 2019. By my math that's 1 year and 5 months from installation to (Jan. 2021) noticeable leak on ceiling, not 2 years. There most definitely was a problem with the installation as we did not ever have a leak until a new roof was installed. 1. There were several windowsills damaged. I pointed one out to Mr. Starling right the next day. He tried to punch it out with his fist and said get your people to repair it and send me the bill. When the window man came to give a cost estimate, he pointed out 7 to us. One was my large dining room windowsill that had to be pieced to repair as it is so large. Does Mr. Starling think I was pleased with a pieced windowsill in my view every single day? These were brand new windows. He tried to give me that bit about tarping and I challenged his theory. I invited him to bring his car over in my driveway and put his tarp over it and I would throw cedar shake shingles on it and we would assess the damage. He declined. Also, I have photos provided by Mr. Starling showing his tarp at the gutter. My second story dormer windowsills are above the gutters and were NOT tarped. Shall I post the photo here? I also have photo of piles of cedar shake shingles on a tarp over landscaping light that was broken. His workers propped it up with mud. 2. If a roof leaks after installation one can only assume poor workmanship or lack of knowledge or perhaps obsolete practice. However, you want to label it, something was missed and caused a leak. Mr. Starling's GAF certification is between him and GAF, not my problem. In 3 separate conversations with GAF, we were told CRS was not a master elite contractor and they would provide us with one to complete the repairs. Maybe he didn't renew. 3. Mr. Starling states he was told of a leak in 2019. Our first phone call about our leak was Jan. 2021. Not sure what he's referring to. He also states he looked at the corner. That's a complete lie. 2/16/21 He had no ladder; he did not go on the roof and look at it. He was standing on our driveway and the corner is not visible from the driveway. He did not step inside and view the damaged ceiling, wall or light fixture. Our house is powerwashed and the roof is cleaned of debris every year. The cause of leak was not pine straw. 2/14/21 we contacted Mr. Starling again, when water started leaking from the light. He called my husband and told him "tell your wife to quit bugging me". He came out 2/16/21. We were quite uncertain of Mr. Starlings, suggestions for repairs from $250 to $2,700, which is it? He was pushing a quick diverter for $250. We said we would think about it and contacted other roofers and a builder. Within 4 days, via phone call to Mr. Starling on 2/20/21, we declined his diverter solution. 4. Mr. Starling insinuates there may have been something that should have been done, in his words "on the front end" per our house design but wasn't. It seems the better practice is to alert the homeowner before, rather than after a problem arises. He is supposed to be the trained professional. During the needed repair we also learned CRS installed new shingles on top of obvious rotten word, that resulted in an expensive tear down and replacement process. 5. I'm not a fan of throwing your employees (secretary) under the bus. In my book, the owner takes responsibility. GAF said he could correct the warranty as he was master elite at the time of install. Whether he didn't renew or whatever, again his problem with GAF, not mine. 6. I only stated facts. I have records, photos, invoices, ruined ceiling, wall and light to back my statements. 7. I have to laugh at the statement, "we stand behind our work". I guess not this time. read more

Probably the worst ever after sales support. They did a great job in installing the roof. The project manager was great and he was at the site the whole time. The cleanup was good. But after the roof was done one skylight started leaking. Good thing that it rained 2 days after the roof was done. When I called the Van senior (owner) he just wouldn't own up to the damage. He was rude and was extremely opposite to when he came to make the sale. My point was you broke it, you fix it. They completely left me hanging. So now after paying ridiculous dollars for the roof, I am shopping for skylight and paying extra couple of thousand dollars. What a shame on their part. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I had a roof put on by Consolidated Roofing. While I am happy with the product, BUT the office work and the owner has been the worst. First, our loan paperwork was messed up, and they blamed us and complained that they had to pay a fee with the loan company to get it fixed. Second. It turned out our house did not have a ridge vent. So the crew on site installed three attic fans. The PM for the job told me as an equal trade they would install the fans, and they would reimburse me the cost of the electrician to connect them when I emailed in the invoice. The owner did not want to pay that either, insinuating that I was lying by saying he had to confirm that with the guy.. he never call me back to tell me one way or another. I was reimbursed but heard nothing more from the owner. The in less than a month, one of my skylights is leaking. Of course, it's the old skylight and not their work...no one offered to come and look. They said the skylights were perfect working order when they installed the roof. Now, with it leaking, they want 450.00 each to replace the four skylights. I will not give Consolidated Roofing any more of my money. Following a chimney not properly repaired in 2018 from another company, the leaks from around it seeped into the interior of the house in a heavy storm in 2020.Consolidated Roofing came out and correctly diagnosed the problem. The chimney repair had been botched and covered up and there was no choice but to take off the existing roof shingles to repair the chimney, put down the proper membrane then add a new roof as existing shingles were disintegrating. At each stage I was shown pictures of the work in progress, rotten wood replaced, and final roofing installed. From start to finish this was a professional job. I would have no reservations in recommending Consolidated Roofing to anyone. read more

Please excuse the length of this review. Although I was originally happy with the work performed by CRS when they replaced our roof in August 2017, I must rescind all recommendations or referrals to this company. Unfortunately, the original individual we worked with to arrange our repair and address our needs has since left the company; those remaining at the company are unprofessional, do not stand by their work, and do not care about customer service. Two years after having our roof repaired, we noticed a leak in the garage - as well as mold blooms on the ceiling related to this leak. I contacted CRS via email on 2/24/19 to have them return to our property to evaluate this leak, as they claimed they had a "10 year worksmanship warranty." However, I have since learned that CRS does not stand by their work and has no interest in working with previous customers. After approximately one month of cancellations and no-shows following our original request for assistance, Van Starling visited our property and looked up at the roof from the sidewalk. Although neither he nor his crew ever even got on the roof to assess the problem, he decided that it wasn't a roofing problem but a gutter problem - but that he could "do us a favor" and take care of it. Although Mr. Starling promised the day he came out that he would bring a crew to "get to the bottom of the leak," he continued to cancel or simply miss several more appointments without providing any advance notice over the next two months- despite my husband and I taking multiple days off of work or arranging alternative work arrangements so that we would be at home to facilitate access into the garage and therefore the location of the leak. This pattern of behavior repeated for more than two months, until 5/20/19. On the day in question, Mr. Starling and his crew were scheduled to arrive at our place to assess and fix the leak, and we were instructed that he would call one hour before arriving. At 9am, I emailed the office to confirm this appointment was still on the calendar, as I had not receive any communication from CRS for approximately 2 weeks (eg, no confirmation of appointment date/time after the email in which it was originally scheduled); I received an email from the office at 1:30pm reiterating that Mr. Starling would call before he and his crew headed to our location. When I had not heard back from Mr. Starling at 4:45pm, I called the office directly and expressed concern that he was going to be cancelling this appointment for the 5th time in 2 months; his secretary informed me that I would receive a call back shortly. At 5pm, I indeed received a call directly from Mr. Starling: he sounded offended that I had called to check whether he would be arriving rather than continuing to wait into the evening. Within seconds of being on the phone, he began raising his voice and interrupting me, telling me to "shut up, little lady" and shouting "I'm not going to argue with you, woman" - even as he admitted that there was no way he was going to make it to our place that day. While he was aware that he wasn't going to make this commitment, he had not provided any notification of this to us, though he should have been aware we were waiting for him (again). During the "conversation" Mr. Starling continued to shout at me and talk over me as I attempted to ask what we needed to do in order to be considered a priority and ensure the he and his crew arrived as scheduled, as my husband and I had now wasted multiple entire days waiting for his arrival, only for him to not show up because of "emergencies" or "other jobs taking longer than anticipated." While I do recognize that unexpected things happen (eg, unanticipated weather), I was never even given the courtesy of a cancellation. In fact, missed appointments were never acknowledged until I contacted the office to understand why I had not received a visit and ask when we could reschedule. Finally, before abruptly hanging up on me on May 20th, Mr. Starling accused me of cancelling appointments multiple times and causing trouble; I have since sent him and his office a record of every time our messages had gone without a response and every time he had not shown up for a scheduled appointment. Between 2/24/19 and 5/20/19, we did not cancel a single appointment, and were more than accommodating by rescheduling and making ourselves available on more than 5 separate occasions. However, because we refused to leave our property unlocked to allow CRS to come by and enter without us present, we were considered to be "unreasonable" and to be "causing problems." Mr. Starling's unprofessional and unacceptable behavior throughout this entire process - which culminated with him shouting at me on the phone, calling me derogatory names, and hanging up on me while I was speaking - has shown me that CRS does not care about honoring their so-called "worksmanship warranty." I would never recommend CRS. read more

Selecting Consolidated Roofing was not an option. We knew when we contacted them for an estimate that they would work with us. Going through a storm such as Florence was bad enough, but Consolidated Roofing made it a breeze. They came on a Tuesday and completed our house and garage by Wednesday evening. We will use them again if we ever have to. Everyone that I have referred them to have said the same thing. We are happy that Consolidated Roofing could help us when we needed them most. They put on an excellent roof which withstood 36 hours or hurricane force winds and rain with no damage or water intrusion. They were able to answer any of my many questions about my roof and the products used. Even gave me a list of neighbors who used them in the past so I could check out their work and choose a color.
