Went to Consigning Women to drop off clothes for consignment. I met the rudest women who were condescending and told me that " none of my items were items that they would sell. I took my items to Local Color in Orleans and they accepted them.. Consigning Women is a rude condescending environment. I've attempted consigning twice, but the majority of my clothes have been returned as "no thank-you's". This is despite carefully studying their clothing requirements, including dry cleaning some garments before bringing them in. It's frustrating to then try to shop there and find multiple items for sale with stains, including stretched out, old sweatshirts and faded/discolored dresses, and discount labels. I now bring my clothes to Whimsy, where I've made a decent amount of money in a short period of time. read more

I attempted to consign and was told at the door that all clothes needed to be on a hanger. "It's on our website". As of 2 weeks ago, two of us couldn't find that. We left and returned a week later with our clothing on hangers (like we were told). Signed in and waited about 45 mins. for our turn to have them take in our clothes " for review". They said "ok we will contact you". Went back a week later and they gave me back 90% of my clothes (less than 2 yrs. old and all good quality) deemed as "no thank you's. A total waste of time. Never again. I felt like I was on an episode of Seinfeld. read more

I have consigned here for years. The new way of dropping off clothes now is disgusting! You have to get there 45 minutes early to get in line to get a number then go to a desk to get a number to be called to go to another desk to drop off your clothes. This was a total wasteful use of my time and so, so unnecessary. Beside being disrespectful to the consigners there was this guy who just as they were opening the doors cut in front of me in line, telling me he was sitting in his car (not standing in line with the rest of us)! I could go on and on but the people running this aspect of Consigning Women were completely indifferent to the whole situation I will not be shopping here anytime soon! read more

I consign here and I buy here - I like this place. But don't arrive expecting your run of the mill consignment store - the stock is fashionable, surprisingly high end in some cases and varied. Everything is spotless, in perfect condition and clean, clean, clean. Plus you won't find any out of date junk here. Great layout with plenty of room to roam around with your arms full! There are special displays of high end items; like-new Vera Bradley and Coach bags will catch your eye immediately. Nice displays of higher end apparel with accessories to go with, too. Check out the shoes, not a rundown heel to be found here. Yes, it's a store for women (all sizes 0-24) but there are enough home goods to appeal to almost everyone who might be trying to spiff up their living space without spending a bundle to do it. Consignments are seasonally accepted but be warned - they are super picky about what is accepted for sale. The up side of that is as a buyer, you'll be getting an almost-new item at a nicely reduced price. Plus, unlike most consignment stores out there, they're'open every day, accept all credit cards and have plenty of staff to keep items neat and in place. I'm glad to see some very honest reviews. I have been going there a long time, but as the number of consignors increases, the acceptance of your clothes to consign goes down. It's discouraging. I wear nice clothes. I may stop in once in awhile to shop, but I'm done consigning there. Sounds like Whimseys might be better for me. read more

I understand that a contract was signed, but it is very confusing to keep track of dates when bringing in lots of items at different times. When your items are still in the store, but you've passed the pick up date, why can't you take it back? Poor policy. read more

There is a new owner and, IMO, the store isn't the same. I've been doing business there for years (proof...my very low consigning number). The last few times I have brought items to the store, I always come away feeling annoyed. Last experience...I brought in 10 items, all up to date and clean or NWT. One item was brand new, bought on line from the vendor. It was refused by the owner because the label had been discontinued, Chico's Platinum. Then I walked around the store with my $2.00 coupon and what I saw was pretty pathetic, clothing which had been accepted with pills, stains, and lots of wears. Go figure? My friend has had the same experience. She refuses to go back. My advice to the owner. Put a smile on your face and rethink your business policy. My advice to shoppers. Try Whimsy in West Harwich...much, much better stuff and gorgeously presented. read more

SO MANY RULES. Uptight, Long Wait, Rude, Stuck-Up. Less than impressed. The women pricing the consigned clothes are rude and quick to judge. Our clothes weren't even looked at before they were rejected because they smelled "too much of moth balls". (She was mistaking the smell for cedar. And this is cape cod, people. If you don't keep your clothes in cedar in the winter, they'll mold.) Same day, we bought clothes anyway, and took three pieces of clothing that didn't smell like cedar back to consign. This time, we were given a coupon for 2 dollars off our browsing purchases, only valid for today's date. Nice. We already bought our clothes. We couldn't have been offered that in the beginning? We waited 20 minutes. My mom asked how much longer it would be and we were told 15-20 more minutes. There were four women in the back pricing. Forty minutes to look at 3 pieces? We were maybe third in line. You do the math. I've consigned clothes back in Chicago and been 6th in line and have had it done faster. If they didn't have so many rules behind the clothing you consign, maybe they'd have a better selection to browse. (My mom was a clothing buyer for 25 years... we brought in quality clothing). We may be without the $2 discount (which they refused us even though we bought clothes there that day). But "Consigning Women" is without social tact, without pricing in a timely manner, without many clothes that would definitely sell, and without two more customers. read more

What a terrible experience while on vacation on Cape Cod. Today I was subjected to disability discrimination at this store by an employee who told me to leave the store due to my inability to wear a mask due to a medical condition after informing her that the governors mandate allows for a medical exemption for wearing a mask. The employee then proceeded to make fun of me with two customers laughing loudly at me and yelling harassing remarks about my condition. Shame on them. I will be registering a complaint with a number of departments within the State of Massachusetts. I will never shop in this store again nor will any of the people I previously referred to Consigning Women. What a painful experience to be made fun of for being sick. read more

OMG, toffee noses an English expression for some one who has their nose in the air. The worst part about the place are the scented candles. I suggested that if they like the candles so much that they burn them at home. It was cloying and nauseating especially as they seem to believe if a little is good then a lot of scent is better. It was as if I was walking by Yankee Candle - yuck! As I said my visits were curtailed due to their insistence on burning candles. What smells are they really trying to hide. When I did try to consign a few items, unless I had 15 items, I was consignor non grata. That I find to be a ridiculous policy: to turn down a vintage LV bought in Paris in the early 70s and a pair of well kept Ferragamo boots is the height of stupidity because I didn't have 13 other pieces of clothing. Horrible. I consigned many things in January/February that disappeared from their store inventory. I know it is a pandemic, but only half my things were accounted for. They didn't extend consignment for any items, yet didn't notify me? Half my items were still there on the floor!! Where are the rest??? I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but buyers and consigners beware!!!! Read the years worth of poor reviews!! I wish I had! This is not a good place! They lost not only a strong consigner in me THAT MADE THEM LOTS OF MONEY, but also a great customer! I bought more than I earned!! read more

Went back last week and my mom and I got some great deals! My mom got white Philosophy pants, a pair of Dr. Scholl's, a pair of cute Hush Puppies sandals, a purple Tahari long sleeve shirt and some sweet and stylish khakis. I got a cute red button down from the Gap with little white cups of coffee on it. This place is the BEST consigning store around these parts on the Cape. It is so nice, has furniture, knick knacks, a large amout of Lily Pulitzer, classic styles, trendy styles, comfy styles and excellent customer service. I just LOVE it here! And they give you a coupon with your receipt so you can come back again! read more

I read the rules before consigning and had no surprises. It was easy to collect my money. Rude and critical of clothing. Accept and reject clothing with no rhyme or reason. They reject more than the accept. They don't tell you how much they they price the items so you have no idea if they are being honest in the price when they give you the check. I will never come back here and have told my family and friends to not come here. read more

My rating is based solely on the customer service I OBSERVED while shopping here. The first experience I had was listening to 2 employees have a very loud, personal conversation in the middle of the store (trash talking their boss). I mentally noted how rude that was, but continued to shop. Just a few minutes later, a customer had walked up to one of the employees asking a basic question. A couple minutes into that conversation a second employee told the first one that she was needed in the back office. The first employee then left the customer and walked into the back office shutting the door while the customer was still talking to her. You could then hear the two employees laughing about how she wasn't needed for anything she just wanted to "save her from the customer". Then they both came out of the office and announced to a third employee across the store that she had lied to save the employee from having to talk to that woman. I couldn't believe how shameless they were. Their customer service, and overall human decency, was so disgusting that I couldn't stand to be in the store for 1 more minute! read more

I have consigned here for a few years and have put up with the "attitudes" of the staff. It's like you are doing them a big favor. They don't know how to speak to customers. There is no reason to treat consignors disrespectfully as that is how they stay in business. I tried again today and honestly felt same way and left...I would rather donate my clothing to some place that appreciates it and help those in need. not worth the 40%. read more

Loved this store at one time. Items now are from Target, Marhalls and have really been selected by the employees as just average and below average quality and brands with price tag higher than what was more than likely paid. I havnt been too Pleased with this store and do Not think I will consign again. I Gave them a St.John Top and They didnt sell that in 2 Months and had My item Marked for $63 and told me " Because I was a few days Late at the end of My contract They owned My Top ? " I dont think I would give a store a $500 top ? The Lady gave me a hard time. The last time I Gave them a Lily Pulitzer dress and that dissapeared for a couple weeks and came back on the rack for Half price and I got $10 . I will absolutely never consign here again. You only have to read the reviews below to understand that the general consensus about consigning here is "just don't do it." I gave them 6 items of mine( brands- Lilly Pulitzer, Free People, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Urban Outfitters) in which only one sold over the 60 days. What did I receive? $3.00. That shirt was not something I really cared about but when I went back today, only 1 day after my consigning period ended, I found out some further information that really made me upset. I had asked them to pull my clothes yesterday, the day that my contract ended. When I went to pick them up today I only received 3 out of the 5 unsold items and they told me that 2 of them had sold today. How can you sell my items after my contract has ended and I have requested that you pull the items from the racks yesterday?!? The 2 items that sold were my Lilly Pulitzer dress and Free People dress. They handed me a check for $19.80 and I was in disbelief that the check was for both dresses. It really is not worth consigning here if you have high end clothing because they either do not bring in the appropriate customers to buy it or do not understand the value of them and do not know how to price items. Since consigners receive 40% of the total sale, the sales for my two dresses totaled about $50; making each dress around $25. The fact that they sold a Lilly Pulitzer and Free People dress for $25 each AFTER my consigning period had ended is disgusting as a consigner and I would have rather given them to someone I know or even donated them to the Salvation Army. And to touch upon what the other reviewers said, yes, they do have an attitude. Some of the employees are very pleasant and sweet but a few of them walk around like they are employees at some high end designer store and so important and busy that they can barely help you out... which is strange since the store is not an "upscale" consignment store. read more

Over the summer while down the cape we happened upon Consigning women. well it was a Sunday afternoon and i guess it was too close to closing. My daughter and I opened the door and with one foot in the door we were greeted with "we are closing in 5 minutes" My daughter saw a blouse she liked but it was on a hanger so I took it off the display and we heard a loud sigh. I consign and buy here regularly. I strenuously disagree with what other reviewers have said about the price being comparable to the retail price, and I feel strongly that it is in the consignment shop's best interest to be extremely picky. To uphold my first point: last week I purchased a Tribal skirt, and a Ralph Lauren blouse for less than $20 all together! You could never get that same price shopping retail (unless you purchased something from the clearance rack at an outlet mall and used a coupon). To uphold my second point: who the f*** wants to go to a boutique and find ramshackle items? Nobody! The price is marked up because it allows the clients to shop without having to scrutinize items as they would in a thrift store. Consigning women is among THE BEST consignment stores on Cape. They offer a little bit of furniture, a little bit of jewelry, shoes, blouses, pants, jeans, purses, sunglasses, wallets...and it is always name brand. In fact, they have an entire section dedicated to Vera Bradley, and another for Lily Pulitzer. As a consigner I can tell you that they accept 25 items maximum at a time, and that they better be in relatively current fashion (within the past 5 years or vintage throw back), and in extremely good condition. Buffalo Exchange, a nation-wide consignment shop, is much more picky than Consigning Women. These other reviewers obviously don't have much consigning experience off-Cape. Buyers and consigners really need to come here. Minus one star because I think the layout could be a bit more boutique-y and fancy, considering what they are charging. Bonus: all of the staff is extremely personable and not snotty at all. read more

The ladies in the consigning room really know what they are doing and only pick the best pieces to display for their customers. Great place both stores! They need to be picky, would you buy things that are not current and in really good shape? That's the difference between them and the tag sale and thrift stores. Got great items there. What you love as a consigner (even though you are parting with it!) may not be saleable, so don't take offense, donate it and feel good about it. Easy to keep up with things consigned and getting your $ for sold items. You get shopping bucks back when you purchase. Nice store, clean, organized. Get there. read more

These folks have recently widened their business line to include really nice furniture and home decorating accessories, so there's even more reason to stop by.
