I've been wondering why it feels so good to shop at Consign Couture and it's because this shop is everything that the "buy local" ethos is about: It feels good to buy from a store where the owner says hello and knows your name. It feels good to have all the details attended to, so you can show up and browse curated, consistently high quality clothes, in a lovely store with the friendliest staff. It feels good to know you're not contributing to the massive excess and waste of the fashion industry by buying pre-loved clothes (that also benefit the consigners!) It feels good to support an entrepreneur and her vision - when you intentionally chose to shop at small businesses, it keeps the dreams of our community alive. It feels good when businesses operate with values that support and welcome everyone - and you can feel the integrity, inclusion and equity that are the literal fabric of this store. read more

This is one of the best consignment stores Portland has to offer! I never walk out empty handed. They have a great selection of designer and quality brands at fair prices and the quality is as if you're buying something new with tags. I stop by no less than once a month to see what's new! read more

I had a very bad experience with this shop. I took seven items out there for them to sell/consign. When my time/contract had expired I called to tell them I would be coming out to pick up the clothes that didn't sell and was told that everything sold. When I went to pick up my check on the tenth of the month as directed, I was told not everything sold. So I said I will take the iterms that hadn't sold. Well, they couldn't find some of my items. By this time I was getting a little suspicious. I had a bad feeling about this place before and now my suspicions were playing out. Everything sold, but didn't, couldn't find my items while I was there, but found them later. I would not recommend consigning with them if they treat everyone the way I was treated. read more

I liked the taste level of Consignment Couture, but the prices - my eyes. These stores remind me of collectives where they charge 50% retail and don't have sale racks because they're for sale by owner, so they don't always care if they sit. Service was polite, but not up to any small talk. I could see this store going up a star if they had a sale because while the prices were about 10-20% higher than they should have been, the quality was there. But for now - not my favorite. read more

I've worked with consignment shops and sold online for decades, and this is the absolute worst experience I've had. Anyone would be better off selling on eBay, Poshmark, or another online marketplace. And if you want to avoid the hassle of listing items, donate and take a tax write-off.  I brought four items into this consignment location: two contemporary boutique brands with tags still attached and two high-quality vintage items. The owner was ecstatic when she saw my items. I know pricing since I've been selling for years and have worked in the styling industry. If I had sold on eBay or Poshmark, the items would have fetched about $400-600; minus fees, I would have received about $300-$480. How much did I get from this shop? Less than $72. I would rather have my lovely items than the measly $72. The only reason I decided to sell here was due to a move, and I thought it would be easier. It was not easier (see below), and to get such a dismal amount, it is a hard pass on recommending this place. As some others have noted, this establishment's business practices are dodgy. Although paperwork is sent in advance, the contract must be completed in person. Instead, it must be reviewed and signed in person, which is odd since the prices for the items need to be included. Although reviewing every detail would be time-consuming, for someone with ADHD, it is overwhelming. And yes, I made these comments at the time and received a blank stare. That should have been a red flag to grab my items and walk out. Here are some highlights of the contract and store policies: *The owner refuses to mail payments or make a direct deposit, claiming it's too risky. The IRS can send checks or direct deposit, but is it too dangerous for a consignment shop? Consigners are expecting to come in to pick up checks, of which multiple trips may be needed. The fuel to pick up the check will likely be more than the check. But there is also a time limit. So if you move or go out of town, too bad. All of this feels like just a means of trying to cheat customers. *One of the most glaring issues is the owner's lack of transparency in pricing. She refuses to disclose the selling prices, which is highly unusual. Instead, she lowers prices to cycle items through quickly. In most places I've worked with, the pricing is a collaborative process, allowing you to set the minimum selling price. This is what I call honesty and transparency, which is clearly lacking in this shop. Lesson learned. I'll go back to selling online or donating. But I do wish I had those fantastic vintage shoes back! The $16 bucks I got for them makes me feel queasy. read more

Worse experience ever at a consignment store. Non existent customer care. Tamara has zero respect for her loyal customers/co-signers. If you treasure your expensive items, do not bring them to her for co-sign with them. Long story short, I trusted her business process and she slapped me in the face by losing some of my unsold items and claiming that I was wrong. That I had not dropped those off when I have pictures of them on her rods. I was Very upset and she knew it when I questioned that there were missing items. When I dropped off my items to be sold, I respected her process and didn't asked for a detailed receipt as she claimed it wouldn't be any problem. Big mistake. She has zero knowledge of how to account for merchandise she is entrusted with. And yet, as I am leaving her store she happens to find more items seating around that she claimed she never taken in the first place. I was put on the spot when asking about my items; as I had taken photos of the items I left behind to consign this helped me prove that I was being robbed of some of my items. Ultimately, I had to be the bigger person and offered a solution to our never ending disagreement. I lost a lot but think she lost and good customer who had being supporting her since she lost her spot in Lake Oswego. Never again. read more

The store is beautiful and houses a great array of dresses however, their business practices are not professional. I sold clothing to them during the covid lockdown and have not received payment for my items despite several attempts and being told to wait as they investigate their bookkeeping. I have been asked to understand their situation as covid was a trying time but the same courtesy is not extended toward me because I wasn't able to pick up payment from the store during covid, while living 2 hours away. I have had an immensely difficult time navigating their poor business practices and etiquette in trying to receive my payment. The business owner seems incapable of problem management and resolution and has proposed no game plan of how to compensate me for the items of mine that she sold and profited from. Their banking, business practices, and employees have changed during this time period allowing them justifications for their discrepancies yet still no solution at hand despite over a month of spotty communication. I do not recommend doing business with this store. There are many other beautiful consignment shops in Portland to work with. I'll be reporting them to the BBB. read more

I've been going to Consign Couture for a long time, to me it's worth the hour drive to visit an exceptional small, women owned business. What I like the best is the consistency, and also the support for other women in business. The clothes are always in great shape, reasonably priced, and many of them are designer. I love this place because it has a perfect mix of second hand and vintage consignment. Some of my amazing finds include: $9 Brooks Brother Blouse, $16 J Crew Capris, $40 Jackie O Jacquard Dress. I wear an 8/10 in dresses and 12 in pants and was surprised to find a vintage store that actually carried plus sizes as well. I wouldn't normally advertise my size but felt it necessary after the review below. I think my favorite thing about this place is the random inclusion of all level of brands, you can find a Chloe clutch next to a Forever top because both are in good condition and priced accordingly. I wish there was a downtown location though, as St. Johns is a bit out of my bubble. But whenever I'm out there I love stopping by. Oh, and the Mexican food cart next door, GREAT! read more

I love supporting my fellow St. Johns merchants but apparently I am the new Kari J. because like her, I think this place blows. The store is organized well and filled with items that are in great condition. Handbags, shoes, designer and vintage clothing. I found a lot of items that were my size including a $39 skirt that I paid $16 for brand new, elsewhere. The counter lady stared at us but we were never acknowledged. I understand that consignment stores pay top dollar for their items but just because they add "couture" to the end of their name doesn't give them a license to jack up prices. It's name brand, I get it. But if I want to pay for a pair of pants that were graced by somebody else's va-jay jay I'll buy them brand new for less. These prices might fly in an upscale neighborhood but last time I checked this was St. Johns, not Rodeo Drive. read more

This place has generally nice things. They are obviously somewhat choosy about what they buy/consign. There's even a decent amount of size 16 and up items among the tops and skirts (didn't even glance at any of the jeans). It's set up in a kind of cool, storefront that they have tried to make look sort of chic-industrial. Sometimes it works. Some of the jewelry is lovely, but generally quite overpriced. Not sure I could afford anything in my usual under $12 range, at least nothing I'd want. The way the stuff hangs - truly hanging from the ceiling - makes it difficult to go through without disrupting what seems like the whole store. I always hate it when I feel like a bull in a china shop. This was a cash mob event - don't make me explain it. So they had some champagne and crackers & cheese at the register. But no one there was particularly warm or welcoming. Nothing (visually or musically or anyways) drew me to want to linger there. All in all, it's ok, but not quite A-OK. They have good taste, and it's convenient to me. But it seems just "another spendy boutique" to me with nothing too special to offer. read more

I was saving my 200th review for a really great review, and I've found the perfect place to receive it! Let me start by saying that as I was being a tourist in Portland, I ended up checking out a couple of clothing boutiques as well as an additional second-hand clothing shop which shall remain nameless (rhymes with "moss toads" haha). I found better clothes here than I did at the new fancy boutique shops, but with lower prices than the well-known used clothing store! They clearly are very selective about the clothing they accept for resale here, but they don't charge anywhere near what the original tag price was. A lot of items still had their original tags, so you can tell how seriously they've been marked down. Of all the clothes shopping I did on my trip, I only ended up buying things from Consign Couture. I know I'm picky about the clothes I buy, but I just found so many pieces here that were exactly my taste. I bought a couple of outfits and a pair of earrings- they have jewelry and shoes too. I would definitely stop by here on the regular if I lived in Portland, just to see what new items are brought in. Oh! And check out the back porch area for clearance clothes and shoes ;) read more

Consign Couture is *still* the best upscale consignment in the Portland area! Luckily the owner of this store knows what she's doing when either accepting or rejecting incoming consignment.....everything is almost new, and in current styles, so you never have to pick through racks of outdated or damaged clothing, which is a common occurrence in some of the *other* consignment stores. And Consign Couture has GREAT DEALS. I know St. John's is a bit out of the way but it's worth it - trust me! read more

I came to Consign Couture with, and at the recommendation of, a personal stylist. I don't know a great deal about name brands, but I do know great textures, patterns and fit... Rather than spend the day at several stores, my stylist and I were pleasantly surprised we were able to get all of my shopping done in one trip at this shop simply because everything I was looking for was right under my nose, and at a fraction of the couture price. I even scored an absolutely incredible vintage, limited edition Coach bag! That one deserves pictures. :) As I've gotten to know more about fashion by getting to know more stylists, shopkeepers and designers in the Portland area, I've learned that Consign Couture is considered a hidden gem in the fashion community. And the owner keeps the best Facebook page... I've seen her post new items arriving that make her think of a particular customer, so she tags that customer in the image. She's even dedicated an entire album on Facebook to one customer who's sense of style she knows so well. That's small business ownership at its best! read more

The clothes are arranged in a way that allows you to really "see" each piece, and enjoy it. And...their Self Care Saturday's, and other events are amazing - I have several new favorites that I now rely on to help me feel beautiful and healthy. Today I got a really big treat when @styledwithnancydespain came and helped me purge and organize my closet. I didn't think I had much to get rid of but by going through each piece - Nancy helped me figure out what pieces worked, didn't work or just needed some help getting styled. She also helped me realize why I kept buying the same shape of dress and then not wearing them. She was patient, funny and kind but also kept us on track. My lovely, clean and organized closet can attest. I also have a list of items that I need to replace or that I need to flesh out my much-bare closet. I had Nancy (who also works in the shop) come to my home recently to help me with my "closet clean out". She was awesome! She assisted me for about 4 hours and by the time she left, my closet was in amazing shape! I was able to go through all of my clothes and either donate or consign the ones that I no longer wanted or needed. It was a BIG job as I had put this off for the last 2 years.I can't recommend her services enough. Over the past 4 years her donations have increased the quality in our little resale shop. This has helped us to be able to assist more of our local veterans in financial distress. She has also provided clothes to a local clothes closet in St. John's where people in need can shop for free. She is compassionate and a visionary. I never leave this store empty handed. I think all of my favorite cardigans have come from this shop. I have been consigning here for about 9 months now and love that I always have credit to get some new stuff! My best find was a great pair of suede knee high frye boots! I think my favorite thing about this shop though, is their facebook page. They are so good at posting all their new items that I can easily see when its worth the trip across town to load up on some new essentials .... of course making sure that I bring some new pieces to consign as well. Also as some people have mentioned - yes - you will pay a little bit more here, but its the only consignment shop I will shop at because its not full of stuff that belongs at goodwill. Im willing to pay a few more bucks to have better quality items and not have to spend a few hours digging. Keep it up! read more

I've both consigned and shopped at Consign Couture, and it's been great! It was super-simple for me to consign items, and as a Size 12, I've had no trouble finding plenty of cute things to try on and take home. I also love that Consign supports and carries local independent designers, in addition to the consigned items--I've discovered some extremely cool Portland designers just by shopping here. St. Johns is definitely a trek from my neighborhood in SE, but when I can make it out there, it's worth the trip! read more

This new location is by far Tamara's best shop! I was in desperate need of new to me clothes for the icky in between sizes after having a baby. So I showed up (with baby) and Tamara pulled a room full of options together for me to try on quickly--pants first, tops, jackets, boots and boom! I have been shopping and consigning at the St Johns store since they opened. Work clothes, casual stuff, workout gear, bags, shoes,jewelry and cocktail dresses. I've purchased from every category and always get the nicest compliments. As far as consignment goes, my closet clean outs are more frequent and definitely more rewarding....although I usually end up using store credit to buy more stuff instead of pocketing the $.
