*PUSHES PEOPLE TO COME IN WHEN RUNNING FEVERS - DO NOT COME IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SICK!*…read more Office staff will bill people who don't show up for their appointments when sick, even if they are running fevers (as they did for us). Otherwise the sick patients have to face an irrefutable bill. We were billed $50 because my wife woke up running a fever shortly after I had to cancel because I had gotten sick. Logical no-show cancellations make sense of course. But forcing people to come into the office while running fevers, and back-to-back family illness (which makes sense given we live together that we would catch from each other)? If you or someone in your household gets sick on an appointment day, know that you will be billed! And when you're in the office, know that the other patients might be coming in while sick, as they will be billed if they don't show up. We had chosen Heinecke Family Dentistry because they were not a big chain and seemed genuinely family-run. After spending several thousand dollars on extensive dental work out of pocket, they drew a hard line that we pay another $50 for getting sick, or never come back. The worst part is the duplicity of seemingly like a genuine and compassionate place, but actually have no issue tossing out two patients who have been coming for years for not coming in when sick. Thankfully we found another family-owned dentist office where we don't have to worry that other patients will be coming in while running fevers under threats of fees if they no-show for illness. Do NOT recommend.

Going into my first filling, I actually felt confident because of how positive that initial experience had been. Unfortunately, today's appointment was the complete opposite. From the moment he walked into the room, he was cold and dismissive. I tried to joke that I wasn't ready yet, hoping to ease my nerves, but he didn't respond. I reminded him that I get very shaky from local anesthetic, and instead of offering reassurance, he said, "You've had a lot of dental work. This is all we've got. You'll be fine." During the procedure, he placed and tightened the thin metal matrix band around my tooth. As soon as it was tightened, I could clearly feel it digging and stabbing into my gum line. This wasn't pressure--it was sharp, localized pain exactly where the band was pressing against my gum. I told him I was in pain, but he argued that it was "just pressure." No, it was pain. I tried to explain that it genuinely hurt, but he became irritated and told me there was nothing he could do about it. The pain continued the entire time the band was in place. At that point, I stopped saying anything and just lay there with tears running down into my ears while he continued working. His incredibly kind assistant quietly wiped away my tears and showed me more compassion than the person performing the procedure. After the anesthetic wore off, my gum remained sore, and I now have a cut along my gum line. After the procedure, instead of apologizing or acknowledging that I had a painful experience, Dr. Ledger asked if I had generalized anxiety. I told him no. It felt like he was trying to blame my reaction on anxiety instead of accepting that I had repeatedly told him I was in pain. I told him I would never come back. His response was, "Really? Wow." He then walked out of the room repeating, "Wooow." I want to be very clear that every other member of the office was wonderful. The front desk staff, hygienist, and assistant were all kind, compassionate, and professional. They deserve five stars. I genuinely feel bad that they have to work with what can only be described as a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality. I know Dr. Ledger personally responds to his reviews, so I'll say this directly: Do better. Patients shouldn't have to argue with their dentist about whether they're feeling pain. If a patient tells you something hurts, listen. Even if there's no alternative, empathy costs nothing. No one should leave a routine filling appointment in tears, be left with an injured gum, and then have their experience dismissed as anxiety. I told you from the very beginning that I was uncomfortable and afraid of dental work. Instead of helping me through that, you made one of my biggest fears come true.

I think the dentist was on drugs, he acted like he had no clue as to what to do. He decided I needed it removed and would have to prepare the site for an implant, would have to do surgery and add cadaver bone because I had "failing bone". THEN 10 minutes later he came back in with an assistant and told me I could have an imediate implant done but I'd have to pay out of pocket to the tune of about $9000.00. I said no. Then the assistant reminded him that they couldn't do the same day implant because of my previous diagnosis (about 10 minutes previous to this conversation) and he looked stunned. Then mumbled something to the effect of "oh, ok" and said to prepare the site for the cadaver bone surgery. I decided that enough was enough. I told him to not bother. I left. They said they'd still have to charge me for the procedure. I said "good luck" and left. Seriously, I truly believe he was taking drugs or was drunk. Can't prove it, but wow -- just WOW! Horrible experience. Went to a different dentist the following week and they fixed the crown. No surgery needed.

That alone says so much about the level of care and professionalism in this office! When we first started coming here, Dr. Vicente's father and mother were part of the practice, and they were always incredibly accommodating, kind, and honest. After they retired, the same wonderful culture continued with the amazing Iris and Frances, who make every visit smooth and welcoming. One of the things we appreciate most is how accommodating the office is with scheduling. Whether you need to repair a filling or come in for a cleaning, they will gladly put you on a waiting list and call you the moment a cancellation opens up. Their cleaning appointments book at least 6 months in advance, which honestly speaks volumes about how good they are. I highly recommend scheduling early so you can choose a time that works best for you. Dr. Vicente herself is extremely cordial and has incredible bedside manners. She explains everything she is doing step by step while working on your teeth, which makes you feel comfortable and fully informed. The billing is always honest and transparent, which unfortunately is not something you can say about every dental office. In fact, we had to leave the practice for 1 year due to a dental insurance change and go to one of the larger dental chains. That year was disappointing ~ we missed not only Dr. Vicente but also the honesty, transparency, and fair pricing that this office provides. The difference in care was night and day. We were so relieved to come back. Dr. Vicente and her entire team are professional, caring, and truly dedicated to their patients. I genuinely give Dr. Vicente 10 stars every single visit. If you are looking for a dentist you can trust for your entire family, this is absolutely the place to go!
