PLEASE READ IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE especially if you are a MALE!!!
I want to echo the professionalism and kindness of all the staff at the Conroy Dental Centre (CDC) echoed by other reviews, especially the always polite and super competent receptionists. I want to share my story in hope that it might save someone's life. The import of proper dental care cannot be overstated! For instance, the early detection of ORAL CANCER and reduction of plaque that can lead to cardiovascular disease. The staff at the CDC have probably saved my life or at least given me more time as I have just been diagnosed and treated for early stage oral cancer. This was first detected by Joanne my dental hygienist (by the way I am the sixth person that she helped to detect Oral Caner) and then Dr Carris examined me and said it could be precancer and I should get it looked at. The biopsy came back as strong suspicion for Carcinoma. Imaging results confirmed that it is more likely precancer. Regardless, the key to survival or at least a longer life is early detection. If caught early, the survival rate after 5 years(key stat) is 90% or so.I have scoured peer reviewed journals and publications from the likes of New England Journal of medicine, The Mayo Clinic and the National Cancer Institute. Even my ear, nose and throat specialist said that oral cancer is usually painful. This is not always the case.. At least with respect to HPV related cancer. Most sexually active people will have been exposed to it and the are over 100 strains. Some more deadly than others. No pain is what is so deadly about this cancer. If one does not go for regular dental check-ups you run the risk of a late diagnosis and your prognosis is not nearly as good. That being said, HPV related cancer responds better to treatment modalities than other forms of oral cancer. Regardless if mine is from smoking (ex smoker) or HPV or some other cause, early detection is the key. My small lesion looked white and had no pain at all. It looked like I had just drank something too hot. In terms of risk factors the usual suspects like smoking, alcohol and being over 50 years of age. However, a couple really caught me by surprise. Over six sexual partners and get this being a MALE!! Vaccinations for HPV now include boys and not just females as was customary when I was a young man. Here is another shocking stat I came across in one of these American publications. HPV related cancer is killing more men, than it kills women with cervical cancer. This cancer is almost exclusively caused by HPV. It's something like 7.2 deaths per one hundred thousand vs 7.4 per hundred thousand for men. Finally, although there is not a definitive causal link for the rapid rise of oral cancer among men, but a leading theory attributes it to Oral Sex.
The CDC is warm and inviting. The technology they have is world class. For example the technology that shows you exactly what is going on inside your mouth from the comfort of your dental chair. The bottom line, what sets this clinic ahead of others, is their people!! From the always polite receptionists, the incredible hygienists and of course the very skilled Dentists.
My hygienist Joanne, is scary smart. She suspected that I needed a root canal but just looking in my mouth. She also picked up on my precancer again by looking inside my mouth. She is a great story teller, while she multi-tasks during my cleanings. How lucky and fortunate I am that I have regular dental screenings by this incredible group of professionals at the Conroy Dental Centre (CDC). Dr. Caris routinely spends more than her allocated time with me whether it's filling a cavity or completing a root canal. For example, after a recent cavity she spent 20 minutes educating me how to avoid hairline fractures in my teeth. Now when I am stressed I stop clinching my teeth. She makes you feel special and I just know I am in very good hands with her. I am not that brave and fear needles in a big way. Every Other Dentist I have seen I need Nitro or a pill to relax my nerves before hand. Not anymore, even for my very first root my canal procedure, I am so proud, no drugs of any kind. Dr Caris is as friendly as she is gentle!! Trust me you will sense that she really, really cares about her patients. She will take the time to deal with you as a person, not just another client! I have great benefits and I have gone to many other great dental clinics but CDC stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Go and find out for yourself, this dental clinic is world class. You will receive excellent dental care and for a very small group of people 7 or so per 100, 000 and growing, it may save your life!! read more
