I was craving a calzone, so I finally tried Congins after hearing good things. I placed my order online and the worker was friendly and helpful. Decided to go with a calzone with pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom, which came to $12. I also got some chicken fingers. The total bill was $21.50 and they told me 35 minutes. I was a little put off by the customer service when I got there. They have a pick up/order window outside. There were two cars in the line with one person waiting for an order they just placed when there. I called to see if I could come in to pick up my order since it was already placed and ready and the same girl who took my order was kind of rude on the phone and told me no, I had to get in line and wait. It was a cold night and I just didn't want to have my food get cold. Luckily, when I got in line someone came out and asked me about my order and went to see if it was ready, I was able to give him my card and receive my order pretty quickly, but I didn't like that notion. The chicken fingers were basic. Maybe not frozen but not like hand breaded or anything. They tasted fine though. My calzone was a good size and pretty cheesy. Ordered salad and pizza for a adult birthday party. Ordered the day before the woman who assisted over the phone was helpful and patient. She gave me suggestions on the amount of food to order to customize the salad that I needed and got the order in and paid for food was here right on time hot and everybody loved the pizza and the antipasto salad. They really fell off. The pizza was pretty pricey but I went with it because of the memories I have about this pizza. Boy was I wrong. The pizza missed the mark entirely! As much as I love trying new food and like to be a bit adventures when dining I have to say this: I like a well-made basic pizza that isn't trying to reinvent what a pizza is. Congins NAILS perfect basic pizza. "Basic pizza" is not an insult here- far from it! The sauce is tasty, the toppings are plentiful and the dough is fresh. I don't need/want imported truffle extract or olives shipped in from France every third Wednesday equaling a pizza that costs $85. My family and I have been ordering from this location since the 90's, it is one of, if not the best pizza around. What makes this place so amazing is that it's recipe for the pizzas have not changed over the years. You can tell they value fresh ingredients and the quality of the food they prepare. I had never had Chicago deep style pizza before and my girlfriend wanted me to try it. She had trouble finding a place that had the real deal. Most chains just don't make the cut. They are no where close. Then someone from the online group NEO Foodies mentioned that Congin's has a great Chicago deep dish pizza. Bingo! We have a winner! So last night my GF ordered us a pizza. What happens when you get there is you drive up to the window. You've already paid online so all you have to do is pick it up. At the window, you ask if it's ready or not. If it is, they give it to you and off you go. If not, you park and they bring it to your car when it's ready. If you haven't ordered yet, you can order and pay at the window and then park. The staff all had masks on. Now let me tell you about the pizza - or shall I say the most divine pizza I've ever had and I am a very picky pizza eater. (Say that 10 times fast!) I've included a couple of photos for you to salivate over. There was the perfect amount of everything in this pizza. I was only able to eat one and a half slices and I was full. So I get another one and a half slices today for lunch. There are six slices total in the 12 inch pie. One slice of this is like three slices of a standard pizza pie. I like to think of this as a pizza lasagna. Maybe this is a New England thing. One of my GF's other friends from New Englad thinks the same thing about true Chicago deep dish Pizza. Either way, I'm a believer now and am cannot wait to try some.of the other items on the menu. The staff is super friendly - right now with COVID 19 they were mask on and still smiling - they have a drive thru pick up window and delivery so you choose how to nosh as super delicious fare is just the norm. I took a half day for work to try and do the zoo with my masked up twins & little guy and by the time I hit the parking lot to load in home all I could think about was making a detour on 185th and Nottingham to indulge in some lets make Chicago jealous sausage nom fest. Best sheet pizzas in Cleveland! The sauce is my favorite (flavorful with a little bit of sweetness) and the pizza never disappoints. They've been in business for a long time and it's due to the great pizza and the great customer service. You can even get 3 separate toppings/sections on your sheet pizza, which is awesome! We got 1/3 pepperoni, 1/3 banana pepper, and 1/3 cheese only with no sauce. Most places will not split of sauce/no sauce and toppings like that, so it's definitely a plus! I also love that they have a drive-thru pickup window, so you don't even need to get out of your car! If you need to feed a group, order from Congin's and you'll please everyone! read more

One of the best pizzas I have had in the area. It is great old school pizza compared to fancier wood-fired pizzas like Vero or Citizen Pie. There is room in my life for both, and when I'm craving pizza it is now Congin's. I drive from Cleveland Heights to Euclid to pick it up. I also enjoyed the Congin sub I tried. Better than average pizza spot in Collinwood, right by the 185th street exit/entrance and right across from Rainbow Muffler (why we went!). A very unassuming, bare bones building lacking in even a modicum of charm -- think "Soviet Union, pre glasnost" -- staff is brusque. Parking is minimal. They have a drive through window, for some reason (but who orders pizza at a drive through, when it takes 40 minutes to make? I guess for pick ups only?). My expectations were modest, but the pizza was very good to excellent, with superb crust and very good toppings. Generous cheese. Mild sauce. My only complaint was NO GREEN OLIVES. We adore green olives, not black. Prices are a tad high, especially considering this is the super-low rent neighborhood....$12 for a plain large pizza (16" generous sized) with no toppings. Toppings are $2.00 each, so that adds up fast. A specialty pizza (like buffalo chicken, hawaiian, supreme) is $21. Also they are super slow. I called in my order, and it took close to 40 minutes, but I will say when I got it -- it was STEAMING hot, right out of the oven, literally CLOUDS of steam coming out of the box! Recommended and we will definitely go back, even though it was out of our normal neighborhood. read more

I ordered a pizza on Tuesday. When I went to reheat some slices I had leftover, I noticed a BLUE HAIR baked into the slice. I usually never call and complain about things like this but this was a rare instance. I don't have blue hair and can prove it wasn't mine. When I called, the manager seemed to not care. Did there was no one there who has that color hair and there is nothing he can do about it since I bought the pizza 2 days ago. Said anything could've happened and he wasn't responsible. Sorry Congin's I just got done eating one of your sandwiches and had to knock you down a star. Still A-OK with your pizzas (pricey but good), but not the biggest fan of your sandwiches. I ordered and picked up your Italian Sub and it reminded me exactly of the subs I make at home from ingredients from Costco, no kidding. The Italian meats on this sandwich were far from outstanding. Standard pepperoni, salami, ham, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, cheese and dressing. As I'm not a big fan of tomatoes and hate myself for saying this, but the ratio on this sub stunk. The slice needs to at least travel 3/4 the width of the bun. The amount of onions on this were also embarrassing. As I adjusted my 'wich to the center of the roll, I noticed 4 thin onion slices, 2 each half. You can probably guess how the rest of the sandwich went. Subs are approx. 8". The highlight was the oven baked sub loaf. It really looked and tasted similar to the ones you can get at Costco but maybe slightly bigger. Now that I've tried Congin's, I'll go back home and make one of my own to compare (pic I took but not sharing). I will give them another shot and see if any other of the subs measure up to the ~$6.25 price tag unexpectedly up from the $4.75 price I got off an obviously old take out menu. At the old price the sub is worth it, new price, not so much. Compare with Papa Joe's or Giorgio's and decide for yourself. Still looking for that GREAT sub place in the area. I had to edit because I didn't notice that it's been exactly ONE year from my previous review....eerily ironic. read more
